In this research, we study the inverse Gompertz distribution (IG) and estimate the survival function of the distribution, and the survival function was evaluated using three methods (the Maximum likelihood, least squares, and percentiles estimators) and choosing the best method estimation, as it was found that the best method for estimating the survival function is the squares-least method because it has the lowest IMSE and for all sample sizes.

Laser direct writing (LDW) is a fast and cost-effective method for printing conductive patterns in flexible polymer substrates. The electrical, chemical, and mechanical properties of polyimide (PI) make it an attractive material choice for laser writing of conductive circuits in such polymer. Electrically insulating PI has shown great potential for flexible printed electronics as LDW enables selective carbonization in the bulk of such material leading to the formation of conductive lines. Over the past several years, two legal trends have gained momentum. The first is the effort to make discovery in litigation more proportional, culminating in the 2015 amendment to Rule 26(b)(1) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, which includes proportionality in the definition of what information is discoverable. The second is the movement, both in the United States and abroad, toward the greater recognition of individual privacy interests. Some courts and commentators now seek to merge these two trends by advocating that privacy should be considered a factor in analyzing proportionality under Rule 26(b)(1).

This paper considers whether and why criminal juries choose to "nullify" a verdict by acquitting the defendant despite the prosecution proving its case beyond a reasonable doubt. To examine jury nullification, this paper turns to two pieces of theater - Antigone and Les Misérables. In each play, the protagonist is unquestionably guilty of a crime but the audience champions them anyway. Examining why audiences absolve the protagonists explains why juries acquit otherwise guilty defendants.

Grounded in goal setting theory and other IS models, this study introduces a robust model, that examines the determinants of MFA goal setting and goal tracking use, and their impact on user behavior and achievement. The empirical results show that system quality and information quality are two key determinants of MFA goal setting and goal tracking use, which significantly influence a user’s goal achievement and behavioral change in terms of physical activities.

A recurring motif in soft matter and biophysics is modeling the mechanics of interacting particles on fluid membranes. One of the main outstanding challenges in these applications is the need to model the strong coupling between the substrate deformation and the particles’ positions as the latter freely move on the former. This work presents a thin-shell finite element formulation based on subdivision surfaces to compute equilibrium configurations of a thin fluid shell with embedded particles. Chinese parents place a high value on their children’s academic excellence and have high career aspirations for their children. Family socioeconomic status (FSES) and family expectations on children’s future achievement play pivotal roles in children’s academic achievement. Using data from the 2014 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) and structural equation modeling techniques, the pathways of association between FSES and children’s academic achievement through family expectations on children’s future achievement, parenting strategies, teacher–student relationship, and academic self-regulation were examined. Background: Adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) following surgical resection confers a survival benefit for adult patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). We aim to investigate if adjuvant RT provides a similar survival advantage to patients ages 80+ through a national curated database.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study queried the National Cancer Database (NCDB) for all cases of HNSCC between 2004-2016. Patients treated with surgical resection alone were compared to those treated with surgery plus adjuvant RT. A regional-scale stream sediment geochemical sampling was carried out with an average sampling density of one sample per nine square-kilometre in Kiteto District, Manyara Region. A total of 358 stream sediment samples were collected and analysed for major and trace elements by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and fire assay with atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) finish methods. This paper presents the mineralogy and chemical composition including iron ore impurities to ascertain its suitability for industrial applications. The Asanje iron ore deposit is hosted in Precambrian volcano-sedimentary rocks in the Mayamaya-Hombolo Belt in Dodoma region, within the Lake Nyanza Superterrane. Iron ores are found in two parallel ridges trending NW-SE. Ridge I occurs as vein and banded hematite-type ore and Ridge II as massive-type ore.
