IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

The important issues, knowledge gaps, and evolving research approaches for the global rangelands are summarised in this review of submissions to the Joint XXIV International Grasslands and XI International Rangelands Congress (IGC/IRC). In the big picture, it is concluded that stand-alone studies of livestock production are becoming rare compared to that of the past International Rangelands Congresses (IRC). Rather, added effort is now being directed at understanding the fuller context of social-ecological systems (SESs) on rangelands in a quest to improve the prospects for sustainable resource management as well as the enhancement of human welfare. Although climate change is upon …

E-Mentorship In Speech-Language Pathology, Mohamed Taiebine, Louise C. Keegan

Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences & Disorders

Current literature on mentorship stems from the fields of higher education, intercultural psychology and counseling and focuses on the personal, interpersonal, and professional aspects that facilitate positive and successful relationships. However, these aspects have seldom been explored in speech- language pathology literature even though mentorship occurs in all facets of the field (student training, as well as clinical and academic settings). Despite a growing consensus in the field that mentorship promotes the development of theoretical and clinical knowledge, there is a dearth of speech-language pathology research exploring collaborative and synergistic frameworks of mentorship which promote interpersonal skill development. Such learning …

Bug-In-Ear Technology As A Clinical Teaching Tool For Au.D. Education: A Pilot Study, Teffany R. Ventura, Diana C. Emanuel, Emily Hildebrand, Amanda Kozlowski

Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences & Disorders

Traditional forms of clinical pedagogy include post-observation feedback and side-by-side coaching. The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate a newer strategy, bug-in-ear technology (BIET), in which clinical supervisors provide live feedback through a discrete earpiece. BIET has the potential to overcome limitations associated with traditional clinical pedagogy. This pilot study compared side-by-side coaching to BIET coaching, using standardized patients in an on-campus audiology clinic. In this study, first-year Au.D. students conducted a case history assessment for two standardized patients. Likert-response ratings and qualitative data from open-set questions indicated BIET coaching was well received by supervisors because it provided …

Self-Care With Self-Compassion (Sc2): A Program To Foster Well-Being In Graduate Speech-Language Pathology Students, Laura R. Chapman, Karalee Cole

Teaching and Learning in Communication Sciences & Disorders

This article describes elements of Self-Care with Self-Compassion (SC2), a novel program designed to foster well-being in graduate speech-language-pathology (SLP) students. Graduate SLP students experience elevated levels of perceived stress, which can ultimately impact their professional competence. University programs, faculty, and staff are uniquely positioned to help students learn to cope with stress. Self-care and self-compassion may buffer some of the effects of stress, and at the same time foster qualities in students that facilitate learning and promote healthy clinical practice. Twenty-five incoming SLP graduate students participated in SC2, a required, two-part workshop. Levels of perceived …

Hadhramout University Journal of Natural & Applied Sciences

Solving Dirichlet-type boundary value problems (BVPs) using a novel numerical approach is presented in this study. The operational matrices of DP-Ball Polynomials are used to solve the linear second-order BVPs. The modification of the operational matrix eliminates the BVP's singularity. Consequently, guaranteeing a solution is reached. In this article, three different examples were taken into consideration in order to demonstrate the applicability of the method. Based on the findings, it seems that the methodology may be used effectively to provide accurate solutions.
