My art focuses on human connection, narratives, and emotions. I explore how people relate to themselves, to nature, and to each other, especially as they relate to shared experiences and mental health. My comic and zines detail the lives of teen characters and how they cope with trauma or mental illnesses. This is centered in how people seek to escape reality through reflection because of their fascination with stories and imagined characters that embody their struggles. From individual planetary systems to the Milky Way's structure, stars are the linchpin connecting astrophysical scales. Through three complementary projects, my thesis leverages these connections and large stellar surveys to offer insight into the Galaxy's dynamical and chemical history and its role in shaping planet formation and evolution. (I) I developed Protify, an automated pipeline to measure stellar rotation periods in TESS light curves, enabling rotation-based ages for thousands of stars. Applying it to overdensities of stars in eccentric Galactic orbits, thought to be post-resonant signatures of spiral arm passages, revealed unexpectedly young rotators in dynamically old populations. Actin is a family of proteins that help create the structure of the cytoskeleton, which gives shape to the cell. In many chemotherapy treatments, researchers target actin because it controls the cell division process. Therefore, if they are able to understand the actin fibers, that may help in formulating methods to stop or slow down cancer cells from reproducing. Another important protein is PAK6, which regulates actin. In our research, a collaborative effort with Prof. Michael Lu’s lab at Florida Atlantic University, we use machine learning techniques to analyze cells which had their PAK6 protein knocked out, and compare them …

Poor Peer Relations During Early Adolescence Amplify Bidirectional Pathways Between Body Dissatisfaction And Alcohol Misuse, Molly Selover

The current study focuses on the growth of body dissatisfaction and alcohol misuse, and factors that amplify their interplay. Participants were 221 sixth- and seventh-grade students (118 girls, 103 boys; ages 10–13) attending a public school in Florida. Self-reports and peer nominations were collected at three time points across the course of a school year. Results from parallel process growth models indicated that higher self-reported body dissatisfaction at the beginning of the school year predicted increases in self-reported alcohol misuse across the academic year. Conversely, higher initial alcohol misuse predicted increases in body dissatisfaction. Follow-up analyses revealed that loneliness, low …

Patients with preload-dependent conditions are at high risk of hemodynamic instability from both hypovolemia and hypervolemia. In hypovolemic states, the presence of third spacing may be misleading and obscure true intravascular volume status. Therefore, management of critically ill patients should be guided by a thorough understanding of physiology and pathophysiology to appropriately address hemodynamic derangements. Overreliance on rigid protocols and protocol-driven care without adequate clinical judgment may, in some cases, adversely affect patient outcomes. Herein, we present a case of hypovolemia-induced hypotension in the setting of third spacing and concentric left ventricular hypertrophy.

The Supreme Court’s 2025 decision in Glossip v. Oklahoma was heralded as a victory for the defense. This essay argues that the 2025 Glossip decision does little to fix the myriad problems that led to Mr. Glossip’s wrongful conviction. While ultimately the Supreme Court reached the correct outcome this time, the ordinary judicial process and its purported safeguards were not what saved Mr. Glossip’s life. Rather, it was random chance that came to Mr. Glossip’s aid.

Ten years earlier, the Supreme Court, with many of the same Justices on the bench now, paved the way for Mr. Glossip’s execution. The …

Emergent phenomena in interacting quantum systems arise from collective behavior that cannot be reduced to single-particle physics. Understanding these phenomena requires platforms capable of both synthesizing many-body states under controlled conditions and probing them at the microscopic scale where correlations originate. Solid-state spin defects, including nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond and negatively charged boron vacancy centers in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN), offer precisely this dual capability. FtsZ is a highly conserved cytoskeletal protein that is essential for organizing the cell division machinery in bacteria. The first observable step in cytokinesis, FtsZ forms a ring at the future division site. The FtsZ ring serves as a platform for recruitment of other division proteins. FtsZ has three major domains: a tubulin-like GTP binding core domain, an intrinsically disordered C-terminal linker (CTL), and a conserved ~11-residue motif known as the C-terminal peptide (CTP). The core domain is sufficient for head-to tail assembly of FtsZ polymers in vitro. The CTP interacts with modulatory proteins to coordinate division, while the CTL …

PurposePrior Big Data and fraud research emphasises technical detection or generic analytics, offering limited empirical insight into how Big Data is operationalised as practices and controls in e-retail fraud prevention. This study assessed records management practices and their influence on service delivery in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in Zambia. The study was guided by the Records Continuum Model, which emphasizes the continuous management of records from creation, capture, organization, use, to preservation. The objectives were to examine current records management practices, assess their effect on service delivery, identify challenges, and propose strategies for improvement. A qualitative case study design was adopted, with data collected from 22 participants across 11 departments through face-to-face interviews, and analyzed thematically using content analysis. Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is a serious and relatively newly recognized eating disorder that affects children and adolescents. The disorder was formally introduced in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) and is characterized by restrictive eating patterns that lead to significant nutritional deficiencies, weight loss or poor growth, dependence on nutritional supplements, or interference with psychosocial functioning (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). It is often presented to society as a binary, chromosome-based system where XX means female and XY means male. In reality, chromosomes are just the beginning of a lifelong process involving hormones that influence biological changes. In December 2025, the U.S. Treasury Department published a notice of intent to issue regulations concerning Trump Accounts (also known as 530A accounts), requesting public comments on proposed regulations for the Trump Accounts Contribution Pilot Program. This testimony presents comments submitted n response. Drawing on decades of Child Development Account research, including insights from the SEED for Oklahoma Kids experiment (SEED OK), the authors urge Treasury to adopt automatic enrollment to ensure that all eligible children— not only those whose families actively enroll them—receive the $1,000 pilot-program contribution. Interpreting chemical information and translating it into ethologically relevant output is a shared challenge of olfactory systems across species, but are olfactory computations conserved across species to overcome these common challenges? To investigate this, we compared neural activity in the locust antennal lobe (AL) and mouse olfactory bulb (OB) both during and after odor presentations. We found that odors activated nearly mutually exclusive neural ensembles during odor presentations ("ON response") and after the termination of the odor stimulus ("OFF response"). ON and OFF responses evoked by a single odor were anticorrelated with each other. Inverted OFF responses persisted long after …

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common reproductive endocrine disorder impacting the health of young female populations. Using harmonized estimates from 953 locations, we assessed temporal trends, geographic inequalities, and forecasts of PCOS among individuals aged 10-24 years from 1990 to 2040. Between 1990 and 2021, global prevalence and disability burden increased by more than 30%, with the highest burden observed among those aged 20-24 years. Substantial geographic heterogeneity was identified, with particularly high prevalence in Europe and East Asia. While high-income regions carried the greatest absolute burden, low- and middle-income regions showed the fastest growth, accompanied by widening …

It is well established that perceptual experience with own-race faces is associated with faster and more accurate recognition of own-race compared to other-race faces — a phenomenon known as the other-race effect (ORE). BACKGROUND: Hydromethylthionine mesylate (HMTM) targets tau pathology and also has tau-independent symptomatic activity. A traditional randomised placebo-controlled trial (RCT) was precluded by loss of blinding due to urinary colouration and therapeutic activity at the minimum dose required to maintain blinding.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of HMTM in participants with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild to moderate dementia due to Alzheimer's disease (AD).
