Historic Shrouds: A New Voice For Shakespearean Women, Ashleigh E. Weinstock

This article presents, and seeks to remedy, the argument that Shakespeare’s female characters are deprived of equal representation as complex humans through narrative gaps, action relegated to offstage scenes, and reduced opportunities for direct-to-audience speech, mirroring the social hierarchies of early modern gender, which continue to be reflected in modern society.

While this critique is not new, this essay argues that the criticism of these theatrical inequalities is insufficient to remedy their harms. Instead, this author proposes a performance-based, generative model of restorative justice termed the Historic Shroud, which seeks to give voice to sidelined female characters by placing …

This research examines potential spatial accessibility of adult American Sign Language (ASL) learning opportunities in Los Angeles County, California (USA). Over 90% of all deaf children are born to hearing parents, who typically do not know sign language. Research has shown that deaf children whose parents learn sign language tend to have better outcomes than those who do not. Thus, adult accessibility to sign language classes is crucial for the success of deaf children. The Two-Step Floating Catchment Area (2SFCA) method was used to calculate a provider-to-population ratio using network analysis and aggregate these ratios within population catchment areas. The …

This article critically assesses India’s recent claims of rapid poverty reduction by examining the methodological, political, and data-related foundations of the Niti Aayog Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI). It scrutinises key methodological choices such as indicator selection, weighting structures, and the dependence on NFHS (National Family Health Survey) data which only partially reflect the socioeconomic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on debates surrounding the Alkire–Foster framework, the essay highlights how modifications to the MPI such as the inclusion of widely achieved indicators and the exclusion of consumption expenditure may underestimate deprivation and produce overly optimistic trends. The US Commemorative Quarter Program, begun in 1999, was wildly popular with millions of people collecting the coins. Fifty new designs were introduced for the quarter’s reverse that intended to represent each state’s unique history and identity. These coins are a piece of material culture that can be studied to understand how they represent place identity, specifically state and regional identity in the US Midwest. In this study, quarters were examined using content analysis to understand how each design represented its state. Project Chimaera seeks to advance aerodynamic design through the development of a morphing wing system that can alter its geometry to improve aerodynamic performance, efficiency during flight, and is capable of adapting to multiple flight regimes—subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic. Through the integration of a tessellated tetrahedron truss structure with horizontal and vertical members comprising of linear actuators, the wing can alter its geometry and create large-scale, localized deformations. The Flightless Eagles team designed and constructed a 22-foot human-powered glider for participation in the Red Bull Flugtag competition, integrating principles of aerodynamics, structural engineering, and creative design. The project emphasized a collaborative, iterative development process, from conceptual sketches and scaled models to full-scale fabrication and testing. Using lightweight materials and aerodynamic optimization techniques, the team sought to maximize glide performance while maintaining visual and structural creativity. The literature on sport coaching has predominantly employed deductive and qualitative approaches to the study of pre-defined coach behaviours, and athlete self-reported perceptions of coaching communication. These methods overlook the inherently contextual and interactional nature of coaching, where the effective communication of sport-specific feedback and technical corrections are key to improving athletic ability. Musculoskeletal disorders are common among healthcare professionals due to repetitive movement, prolonged standing, and physically demanding work environments. In nursing, these challenges are intensified by psychosocial stressors such as staffing shortages, role ambiguity, and increased cognitive workload. Ergonomic assessments using the Hand Threshold Limit Value (TLV) and Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) revealed significant strain associated with patient transport, CPR, and extended administrative duties. This study examines the long-term musculoskeletal effects experienced by Eddie, a 71-year-old retired construction worker and building superintendent. Over several decades, Eddie’s work involved repetitive lifting, bending, twisting, and heavy tool use, factors contributing to chronic pain in his knees, back, shoulders, and wrists. Two ergonomic analysis tools were applied: the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) and the Hand Activity Threshold Limit Value (TLV). The REBA identified shoveling tasks as high-risk (score = 9), with excessive trunk flexion and repetitive motion driving strain. This case study focuses on a nuclear watch engineer, referred to as BC, and how his working conditions coupled with his pre-existing shoulder ligament instability lead to risk of physical injury. Analysis was done through two musculoskeletal disorder risk assessments and interviews focusing on background and psychosocial factors in the workplace. The main risk was associated with the plant’s equipment: poor placement led to shoulder, neck, and upper limb strain, and lack of maintenance led to strain via more force when trying to turn the valves. How do natural disasters impact different socioeconomic portions of society, and what spatial patterns emerge in disaster vulnerability, economic recovery, and aid distribution? Natural disasters aren’t felt equally by everyone. This study aims to take a closer look at how pre-existing socioeconomic conditions shape the way different communities are affected and how they recover. I argue that lower-income areas get more adversely affected by natural disasters and recover slower in comparison with wealthier areas. Multivariable calculus helps explain how things work when more than one variable interacts at once, connecting with ideas such as architecture, nature, and most significantly football. In the latter, the ellipsoid equation has a significant effect on the aerodynamics of the ball, particularly the spiral motion when thrown. A football has three main dimensions: length, width, and height. Changing the ratios among these dimensions affects factors such as the stability of the spiral, the height of the throw’s parabolic path, and the overall distance the ball travels. High-energy plasma jets form when the supersonic solar wind decelerates to subsonic speeds at Earth’s bow shock, producing a turbulent region known as the magnetosheath. Occasionally, the solar wind retains its supersonic nature and penetrates deeper into this region, which generates transient, high-velocity plasma jets directed toward Earth. These jets carry their own magnetic fields, which can interact with Earth’s field, drive magnetic reconnection, and potentially initiate substorms that lead to auroral activity. The following work is a case study of a retired United States Air Force officer, callsign Doppler, whose former roles included instructor pilot and aircraft commander for C-5 Galaxies. During their service as a commissioned officer, Doppler incurred multiple repetitive musculoskeletal injuries to their cervical and thoracic back, which they believe to have been exacerbated by the task design associated with “bag drags”. “Bag drags” are the processes by which all crew luggage is loaded onto the aircraft after receiving deployment orders, with each crew member (~9-12) bringing a minimum of five bags ranging between 50-60 lbs. each.
