Engineering Faculty Articles and Research
In the modern graphics processing unit (GPU)/artificial intelligence (AI) era, flip-flop (FF) has become one of the most power-hungry blocks in processors. To address this issue, a novel single-phase-clock dual-edge-triggering (DET) FF using a single-transistor-clocked (STC) buffer (STCB) is proposed. The STCB uses a single-clocked transistor in the data sampling path, which completely removes clock redundant transitions (RTs) and internal RTs that exist in other DET designs. Verified by post-layout simulations in 22 nm fully depleted silicon on insulator (FD-SOI) CMOS, when operating at 10% switching activity, the proposed STC-DET outperforms prior state-of-the-art low-power DET in power consumption by 14% …

A p-type ternary logic device with a stack-channel structure is demonstrated using an organic p-type semiconductor, dinaphtho[2,3-b:2',3'-f]thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (DNTT). A photolithography-based patterning process is developed to fabricate scaled electronic devices with complex organic semiconductor channel structures. Two layers of thin DNTT with a separation layer are fabricated via the low-temperature deposition process, and for the first time, p-type ternary logic switching characteristics exhibiting zero differential conductance in the intermediate current state are demonstrated. The stability of the DNTT stack-channel ternary logic switch device is confirmed by implementing a resistive-load ternary logic inverter circuit.

South Korean Government Policy In The Development Of K-Pop, Kamon Butsaban
Journal of Letters
This study analyzes the Korean government’s K-Pop policies by period to shed light on the Korean government’s role and how its policies have contributed to K-Pop’s success.
The Kim Dae-jung government laid the foundation for the Korean cultural industry to grow by establishing laws, systems, and organizations; building necessary infrastructure; and increasing budget allocation. The Roh Moo-hyun government set the development of the cultural industry as a core task and implemented specific, in-depth policies for different areas. The Lee Myung-bak government actively pursued K-Pop–related policies, such as facilitating and hosting K-Pop events, based on the principles of competition and concentration. …

Background
There are limited data on risk of arrhythmias among patients with lymphoproliferative disorders. We designed this study to determine the risk of atrial and ventricular arrhythmia during treatment of lymphoma in a real‐world setting. Methods and Results
The study population comprised 2064 patients included in the University of Rochester Medical Center Lymphoma Database from January 2013 to August 2019. Cardiac arrhythmias—atrial fibrillation/flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular arrhythmia, and bradyarrhythmia—were identified using International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD‐10) codes. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to assess the risk of arrhythmic events with treatments categorized as Bruton tyrosine …Against God, Good Faith, And Reason: The 1381 Peasants’ Revolt In Cambridge, Reagan T. Against God, Good Faith, And Reason: The 1381 Peasants’ Revolt In Cambridge, Reagan T. Vernon
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This paper focuses on the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381 as it occurred in the university town of Cambridge. The historiographic understanding of the Cambridge wing of the Peasants’ Revolt has categorized it as foundationally motivated by town and gown resentment. Using legal records and chronicle accounts, this thesis demonstrates that the crowd did not exclusively target the university. As one of the town’s wealthier and increasingly authoritative institutions, the university and its constituents were targets in the uprising—but this was in addition to several attacks on local churches, monastic institutions, and manors. These attacks against higher authorities reflect a loss …

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This LGBTQ+ rhetoric of health and medicine (RHM) community-based research explores the ways community members and queer community participants communicate about potential intimate partner selection in Central Florida. The dissertation introduces the theoretical framework of “collective mētis” as a way to analyze and discuss community communication against Florida’s required HIV disclosure laws that attempt to medicalize this and control this community’s intimate partner selection. Research questions include: 1) How do people in counterpublic enclaves (Chávez, 2011) communicate their potential intimate partner desires to others in the community including the types of disclosures they express and negotiate, and how? 2) How …
The Influence Of Bipolar Electrochemical Cell Geometry On The Studies Of Pitting Corrosion, Amin Kazem Ghamsari
The Influence Of Bipolar Electrochemical Cell Geometry On The Studies Of Pitting Corrosion, Amin Kazem Ghamsari
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Bipolar electrochemistry (BPE) is a technique that provides a wireless alternative totraditional electrochemistry to elicit redox reactions. It has been utilized in different applications, including studying localized corrosion, gradient electrodeposition, propulsion of micromotors, and water treatment. The popularity of the method is not solely dependent on its wirelessness but more due to the simultaneous presence of cathodic and anodic poles on the same surface, which also begets its name as bipolar. The concept of the method is based on the polarization of conductive objects in an electric field in the presence of an electrolyte. In BPE, instead of controlling the …

Kif3 A Tail Domain Phosphorylation Is Not Required For Ciliogenesis In Mouse Embryonic Fibroblasts, Ayoola Fasawe
Theses and Dissertations
Cilia and flagella are microtubule-based organelles that protrude from the plasma membrane of most cells in the body and play a critical role in cell signaling, motility, and development. Numerous diseases, collectively known as ciliopathies, with phenotypes like developmental abnormalities, cystic kidney disease, and obesity, have been linked to ciliary dysfunction. Intraflagellar transport (IFT) shuttles cellular cargoes along axonemal microtubules and into and out of cilia. IFT is essential for the assembly of cilia and flagella and is powered by heterodimeric kinesin-2 (KIF3A/KIF3B) and dynein-2. While the essential role of kinesin-2 in mammalian ciliogenesis is well established, little is known …

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
In this article, we presented a ranking system based on the sign distance in a new direction, such that to compare different single-valued neutrosophic numbers (SVN-numbers), a decision maker has the chance of flexibility. We also developed some important definitions, like level-(α,β,γ) neutrosophic point, and some properties related to the sign distance ranking function. Finally, the sign distance ranking function is applied to solving the neutrosophic transportation problem (NTP) with SVN-number converted into a transportation problem (TP) with crisp data, and to illustrate the appropriateness of this function, we gave two numerical illustrations.

BACKGROUND: Heuristic evaluations, while commonly used, may inadequately capture the severity of identified usability issues. In the domain of health care, usability issues can pose different levels of risk to patients. Incorporating diverse expertise (eg, clinical and patient) in the heuristic evaluation process can help assess and address potential negative impacts on patient safety that may otherwise go unnoticed. One document that should be highly usable for patients-with the potential to prevent adverse outcomes-is the after visit summary (AVS). The AVS is the document given to a patient upon discharge from the emergency department (ED), which contains instructions on how …

Architecture And New Urbanism’S Relationship To Biomimicry And Floral Design, Alycia Timmerman
Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)
The craft of floral design is classified as an art and a science. Similarly, architecture is rooted in the two disciplines. After conducting research and exploring biomimicry through the design process, it became evident that the process of design for architecture and floral design are similar. This relationship can also be extended into the field of planning and the New Urbanism movement. This study explores the integration of floral design and biomimicry with architecture and New Urbanism at the scale of the building and city block.

Background: Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are key soil organisms and their extensive hyphae create a unique hyphosphere associated with microbes actively involved in N cycling. However, the underlying mechanisms how AMF and hyphae-associated microbes may cooperate to influence N2O emissions from "hot spot" residue patches remain unclear. Here we explored the key microbes in the hyphosphere involved in N2O production and consumption using amplicon and shotgun metagenomic sequencing. Chemotaxis, growth and N2O emissions of isolated N2O-reducing bacteria in response to hyphal exudates were tested using in vitro cultures and inoculation experiments.
Results: AMF hyphae reduced denitrification-derived N2O emission (max. 63%) …

Effectiveness Of A Formal Business Of Ophthalmology Course For Trainees, Jonathan Siktberg, Alexander De Castro-Abeger, Sean T. Berkowitz, Janice C. Law
Journal of Academic Ophthalmology
Abstract
Objective In medical school and residency training, there is little emphasis on the administrative and business aspects of running a clinical practice as either an employee or a business owner. However, by the first day of practice, young ophthalmologists need to have a basic understanding of the business of medicine to be successful in clinical practice and to avoid common pitfalls. Areas such as risk management, negotiation, financial health, lawsuits, marketing, coding, and professionalism are particularly important for practicing ophthalmologists to grasp. We instituted a formal practice management course to increase the early exposure of our trainees to the …

Real-Time Liver Tumor Localization Via Combined Surface Imaging And A Single X-Ray Projection, Hua-Chieh Shao, Yunxiang Li, Jing Wang, Steve Jiang, You Zhang
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Objective. Real-time imaging, a building block of real-time adaptive radiotherapy, provides instantaneous knowledge of anatomical motion to drive delivery adaptation to improve patient safety and treatment efficacy. The temporal constraint of real-time imaging (< 500 milliseconds) significantly limits the imaging signals that can be acquired, rendering volumetric imaging and 3D tumor localization extremely challenging. Real-time liver imaging is particularly difficult, compounded by the low soft tissue contrast within the liver. We proposed a deep learning (DL)-based framework (Surf-X-Bio), to track 3D liver tumor motion in real-time from combined optical surface image and a single on-board x-ray projection.
Approach. Surf-X-Bio performs mesh-based deformable registration to track/localize liver tumors volumetrically via three steps. First, a DL model was built to estimate liver boundary motion from an optical surface image, using learnt motion correlations between the respiratory-induced external body surface and liver boundary. Second, the residual liver boundary motion estimation error was further corrected by a graph neural network-based DL model, using information extracted from a …

Standing On The Shoulders Of Llcs: Tax Entity Status And Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, Samuel D. Brunson
Georgia Law Review
Since the formation of the first decentralized autonomous organization in 2016, their use has exploded. Thousands of DAOs now try to take advantage of smart contracts to solve a problem that plagues business entities: the gulf between ownership and management. Armed with smart contracts and requiring token-holders to vote on any change in strategy, DAOs dispense with the management layer so necessary in traditional business entities.
DAOs owe their existence to technology. Without blockchain, without cryptocurrency, and without smart contracts, there would be no DAOs. But they owe their explosive to something much more unexpected: Treasury regulations.

Liver resection is an important surgical technique in the treatment of cancers and transplantation. We used ultrasound imaging to study the dynamics of liver regeneration following two-thirds partial hepatectomy (PHx) in male and female rats fed via Lieber-deCarli liquid diet protocol of ethanol or isocaloric control or chow for 5–7 weeks. Ethanol-fed male rats did not recover liver volume to the pre-surgery levels over the course of 2 weeks after surgery. By contrast, ethanol-fed female rats as well as controls of both sexes showed normal volume recovery. Contrary to expectations, transient increases in both portal and hepatic artery blood flow …

Literature to date indicates that constructive, timely, and personalized instructor feedback to student work boosts their academic performance. Peer feedback has been investigated extensively for the past three decades and has demonstrated its effectiveness where students were trained to give quality feedback. Little, however, is known about the use of feedforward as a strategy that focuses on future assignments and paves the way to improved performance. This study followed an action research design using a mixed-method approach to examine the impact of feedforward on developing pre-service teachers’ performance on two main skills: critical thinking and academic writing. The teacher researcher …
Not Just For Kids: Child And Dependent Care Credit Benefits For Adult Care, Gabrielle Pepin, Yulya Truskinovsky
Not Just For Kids: Child And Dependent Care Credit Benefits For Adult Care, Gabrielle Pepin, Yulya Truskinovsky
Upjohn Institute Working Papers
As the U.S. population ages, family caregivers face substantial out-of-pocket costs and financial risks while providing the majority of long-term care. The Child and Dependent Care Credit (CDCC), a tax credit based on income and care spending, subsidizes caregiving expenses but has low participation among adult caregivers. This paper evaluates the CDCC’s current structure, documenting its limited impact on reducing caregiving costs and examining reforms to increase its utility for adult caregivers. Simulations of proposed changes—higher benefits, refundability, and relaxed eligibility requirements—demonstrate potential to expand access and enhance support for family caregivers within the existing policy framework.

Latinx Visions: Speculative Worlds In Latinx Art, Literature, And Performance, Latin American And Iberian Institute
LAII Events
Latinx artists, writers, and performers are envisioning speculative worlds, including dystopias, utopias, apocalyptic lands, fantastic futures, and horrifying worlds, at a greater rate than ever before. This creative renaissance raises the following questions: Why are Latinx creators drawn to the speculative genres of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, and why now? What is aesthetically exceptional about these new Latinx speculative worlds? With these questions in mind, the Latinx Visions project is gathering, for the first time, some of the most prominent scholars working on this topic for a conference at the University of New Mexico on March 9-11, 2023. Consumption of the total Western diet (TWD) in mice has been shown to increase gut inflammation, promote colon tumorigenesis, and alter fecal microbiome composition when compared to mice fed a healthy diet, i.e., AIN93G (AIN). However, it is unclear whether the gut microbiome contributes directly to colitis-associated CRC in this model. The objective of this study was to determine whether dynamic fecal microbiota transfer (FMT) from donor mice fed either the AIN basal diet or the TWD would alter colitis symptoms or colitis-associated CRC in recipient mice, which were fed either the AIN diet or the TWD, using a 2 …

Constitutional Text, Founding Era History, And The Independent-State-Legislature Theory, Dan T. Coenen
Constitutional Text, Founding Era History, And The Independent-State-Legislature Theory, Dan T. Coenen
Georgia Law Review
One question raised by proponents of the so-called independent-state-legislature theory concerns the extent to which state courts can apply state constitutional requirements to invalidate state laws that concern federal elections. According to one proposed application of the theory, state courts can never subject such laws to state-constitution-based judicial review. According to another application, federal courts can broadly, though not invariably, foreclose state courts from drawing on state constitutions to invalidate federal-election-related state legislation. This article evaluates whether either of these positions comports with the original meaning of the Constitution. Given the article’s focus on the originalist methodology, it directs attention …
