Decentralization And The Unraveling Of Power Relations In Sangkarrang Islands, City Of Makassar., Sudarmono Sudarmono

Jurnal Wacana Politik

How does decentralization provide good public services among traditional fisherfolk and diminish the exploitation of marine resources? This article discusses the positive impact of decentralization on the patron-client relationship of the fishing community by depicting the articulation of social relations and power relations tied among the fisherfolk Sangkarrang Islands, City of Makassar. By employing the theory of access, this study revealed that the proliferation of the Sub District of Sangkarrang had configured the landscape of socio-political interaction. This condition was restructured by the relation of production among producers and successfully eliminated the over-exploitation of marine resources in Sangkarrang Islands. Social …

Adiponectin-Mediated Promotion Of Cd44 Suppresses Diabetic Vascular Inflammatory Effects, Yanru Duan, Shihan Zhang, Yuanyuan Xing, Ye Wu, Wen Zhao, Pinxue Xie, Huina Zhang, Xinxiao Gao, Yanwen Qin, Yajing Wang, Xin-Liang Ma, Yunhui Du, Huirong Liu

Department of Emergency Medicine Faculty Papers

While adiponectin (APN) was known to significantly abolish the diabetic endothelial inflammatory response, the specific mechanisms have yet to be elucidated. Aortic vascular tissues from mice fed normal and high-fat diets (HFD) were analyzed by transcriptome analysis. GO functional annotation showed that APN inhibited vascular endothelial inflammation in an APPL1-dependent manner. We confirmed that activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling plays a key role in APN-mediated anti-inflammation. Mechanistically, APN promoted APPL1/reptin complex formation and β-catenin nuclear translocation. Simultaneously, we identified APN promoted the expression of CD44 by activating TCF/LEF in an APPL1-mediated manner. Clinically, the serum levels of APN and CD44 …

Short-Haul Airline Services In Europe And North America - A Cross-Business Model And Cross-Continental Analysis, Chunyan Yu, Richard Klophaus

Publications

We examine short-haul services offered by the respective 10 largest European and North American carriers in terms of fleet composition, network characteristics, airfare and product attributes. Our cross-business model and cross-continental analysis builds on the index approach developed by Klophaus et al. (2012) to derive a typology of the hybridization among the largest carriers in Europe and North America in short-haul markets. Our results indicate that none of the largest European and North American carriers follows the pure LCC business model in short-haul markets, and all the LCCs in Europe and North America have adopted certain degree of hybrid strategy …

Motivators And Preferences Of Route Diversion During Roadway Incidents, Grace Cole Mar 2023

Motivators And Preferences Of Route Diversion During Roadway Incidents, Grace Cole

LSU Master's Theses

When confronted with congestion and delay, drivers often divert their route. Depending on factors like purpose, urgency, destination, route alternatives, type of disruption, and mode options, common diversionary options can range from changing departure time, route, and mode to canceling a trip altogether. One of the foundational building blocks of travel forecasting is traffic assignment, which is used to distribute trips over a network using complex algorithms to aggregately represent the desire of drivers to minimize travel time.

While these assignment models are backed by decades of research and observational experience, they are also limited by the fact that they …

Changes In Household Recycling Behavior: Evidence From Panel Data, Joel Huber, Jason Bell, W. Kip Viscusi Mar 2023

Changes In Household Recycling Behavior: Evidence From Panel Data, Joel Huber, Jason Bell, W. Kip Viscusi

Vanderbilt Law School Faculty Publications

This article uses a longitudinal national U.S. dataset with 232,309 pairs of same-household observations to estimate one-year or two-year changes in recycling behavior. Most households recycled at least one material, as 83% recycle paper, cans, glass, or plastic in the past year, with an average recycling rate of 2.8 materials. Recycling habits are stable, as 68% of households do not change the number of materials recycled from the previous year. Changes in county recycling are reflected in immediate changes in household behavior but at 25% of the change in the county recycling rate. Recycling rates are greater after being newly …

Analytic Continuation Of Toeplitz Operators And Commuting Families Of C*-Algebras, Khalid Bdarneh Mar 2023

Analytic Continuation Of Toeplitz Operators And Commuting Families Of C*-Algebras, Khalid Bdarneh

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

In this thesis we consider the Toeplitz operators on the weighted Bergman spaces and their analytic continuation. We proved the commutativity of the $C^*-$algebras generated by the analytic continuation of Toeplitz operators with special class of symbols that are invariant under suitable subgroups of $SU(n,1)$, and we showed that commutative $C^*-$algebras with symbols invariant under compact subgroups of $SU(n,1)$ are completely characterized in terms of restriction to multiplicity free representations. Moreover, we extended the restriction principal to the analytic continuation case for suitable maximal abelian subgroups of the universal covering group $\widetilde{SU(n,1)}$, and we obtained the generalized Segal-Bargmann transform, where …

Kimmel Cancer Center Faculty Papers

CD44 protein and its variant isoforms are expressed in cancer stem cells (CSCs), and various CD44 isoforms can have different functional roles in cells. Our goal was to investigate how different CD44 isoforms contribute to the emergence of stem cell (SC) overpopulation that drives colorectal cancer (CRC) development. Specific CD44 variant isoforms are selectively expressed in normal colonic SCs and become overexpressed in CRCs during tumor development. We created a unique panel of anti-CD44 rabbit genomic antibodies to 16 specific epitopes that span the entire length of the CD44 molecule. Our panel was used to comprehensively investigate the expression of …

Pakistan's Economy Under Musharraf, Ishrat Husain Dr. Mar 2023

Pakistan's Economy Under Musharraf, Ishrat Husain Dr.

Faculty Research - Newspaper and Magazine Articles

Economic achievements in most difficult circumstances during President Musharraf‘s regime are dismissed outright, because of abhorrence of the military rule, imposition of the emergency in 2007, his decision to join the US in Afghanistan war, open tussle with the judiciary, withdrawal of corruption cases against the politicians, and his quest to get elected in uniform. This article is an attempt to provide a first-hand data-driven account of the economic record of the period 2000-2008. Pakistan suffered serious setbacks in the 1990s in terms of most economic and social indicators. Economic growth rates decelerated, inflation rose to peak rates, debt burden …

Primary mediastinal (thymic) large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL) is a rare, aggressive subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and has a complex inflammatory microenvironment. Although most patients can be cured with standard-of-care immunochemotherapy, patients who have disease relapse have an unfavorable prognosis. Pre-treatment prognostic biomarkers in PMBCL are needed. In this retrospective study, we analyzed the clinical features and outcomes of PMBCL patients and their association with immune cell subpopulations identified by multiplex immunofluorescence at initial diagnosis. Two different antibody panels were used to assess macrophages in tissue biopsy specimens collected before the initiation of induction therapy. Twelve PMBCL patients, including five patients …

Purdue University Libraries Open Access Publishing Fund

Existing reaction transition state (TS) databases are comparatively small and lack chemical diversity. Here, this data gap has been addressed using the concept of a graphically-defined model reaction to comprehensively characterize a reaction space associated with C, H, O, and N containing molecules with up to 10 heavy (non-hydrogen) atoms. The resulting dataset is composed of 176,992 organic reactions possessing at least one validated TS, activation energy, heat of reaction, reactant and product geometries, frequencies, and atom-mapping. For 33,032 reactions, more than one TS was discovered by conformational sampling, allowing conformational errors in TS prediction to be assessed. Data is …

Targeted Gene Expression Profiling Predicts Meningioma Outcomes And Radiotherapy Responses, Michael Mcdermott Mar 2023

Targeted Gene Expression Profiling Predicts Meningioma Outcomes And Radiotherapy Responses, Michael Mcdermott

All Publications

Background: Surgery is the mainstay of treatment for meningioma, the most common primary intracranial tumor, but improvements in meningioma risk stratification are needed and current indications for postoperative radiotherapy are controversial. Recent studies have proposed prognostic meningioma classification systems using DNA methylation profiling, copy number variants, DNA sequencing, RNA sequencing, histology, or integrated models based on multiple combined features. Targeted gene expression profiling has generated robust biomarkers integrating multiple molecular features for other cancers, but is understudied for meningiomas.

Methods: Targeted gene expression profiling was performed on 173 meningiomas and an optimized gene expression biomarker (34 genes) and risk score …

The Quantitative Microanalysis Explorer: Introducing Web-Based Visualization For Optical, Electron, And Quantitative X-Ray Maps For Studying Lunar Samples, Angelina Minocha

Senior Honors Papers / Undergraduate Theses

Modern sample imaging techniques produce data in the form of large mosaics, wherein every pixel contains valuable mineralogical information. These heavy data files are challenging for most computers to load and process, furthermore access to lunar and other extraterrestrial samples is limited. We developed the QME Tool to display optical, electron, and quantitative x-ray maps in conjunction with one another to overcome these challenges and advance mineralogy data presentation and analysis. The images and quantitative data was collected using specialized techniques, followed by an extensive image co-registration process. The interface was developed using OpenSeadragon, “An open-source, web-based viewer for high-resolution …
