A Player Centered Design Method For Spatial Reuse, Franklin (Yuhao) Wu

This thesis investigates spatial reuse in single-player level design through the lens of Self-Determination Theory (SDT), addressing two core challenges: excessive repetition and player disorientation. To resolve these challenges, five best practices are proposed: mixing new and reused content at a macro level, establishing clear spatial identities, varying gameplay upon revisits, altering flow within reused spaces, and leaving visible signs of player impact. These practices were applied in a custom-built quest level for Starfield and evaluated through playtesting combining behavioural observation and surveys. Results suggest that distinctive spatial identities and varied combat encounters were the most effective in creating meaningful …

I here critically discuss “the Selection Problem”, a vexing problem for metaphysicians who are realists about fictional entities and who further claim that such entities are identified with nonactualia. The Selection Problem arises due to the fact that the nonactualist is forced to defend the view that ficta are somehow discovered, or selected, by authors who then present them to us so we may entertain their exploits. The title of this collection, Totality: An Eclipse, and the titles of each of its three sections (“First Contact,” “Second Contact,” and “Third Contact”) combine to help illustrate my experience with grief as a solar eclipse: totality is the maximum phase of a total solar eclipse; first contact is when the sun just begins to disappear in the sky; second contact is when there is complete darkness in the sky; and third contact is when daylight finally returns. Women At Work: Women In Economic Crises In German Film, Anthony J. Capone

The films Joyless Street (1925), The Marriage of Maria Braun (1979), and The Drifter (2010) depict the influence of economic crises in restricting women’s flexibility and the shaping of their social roles. Through the themes of survival, resistance, and agency, the female protagonists navigate the economic hardships such as scarcity, poverty, and unemployment by using labor, sexuality, and personal relationships. Spanning the eras of post-World War 1, the Wirtschaftswunder, and the late 2000s, these women emerge as individuals, who are not weak, but rather constrained by the economic structures of their society.

A Palatable Identity: Turkish-German Integration Through Cuisine, Film And Hip-Hop, Thomas Goldsborough

This paper explores how Turkish-German identity is constructed and negotiated through cultural production in contemporary Germany. It argues that belonging is shaped less by formal political inclusion than by processes of visibility, commodification, and marketability. Through case studies of döner kebab culture, Turkish-German cinema, and hip-hop, the paper shows how minority identity is made legible to the mainstream by being aestheticized and adapted to familiar forms. While these processes enable recognition and creative expression, they also reveal how acceptance is often contingent on profitability and cultural “palatability” rather than genuine social integration.

Seasonal snow is an integral component of global hydrological systems, global energy budget and Earth's climate. As an important part of many Earth systems, seasonal snow is also an essential source of water for many human populations and ecosystems around the world. As such, the measurement of seasonal snow and characterization of uncertainty in those measurements is crucial. We explore the correlated dynamics underlying the formation of the quantum Peregrine soliton, a prototypical rogue-wave excitation, utilizing interaction quenches from repulsive to attractive couplings in an ultracold bosonic gas confined in a one-dimensional box trap. The latter emulates the so-called semiclassical initial conditions and the associated gradient catastrophe scenario facilitating the emergence of a high-density, doubly localized waveform. The ensuing multiorbital variant of the Peregrine soliton features notable deviations from its mean-field sibling, including a reduced peak amplitude, wider core, absence of the side density dips, and earlier formation times. Moreover, Peregrine soliton generation yields coherence losses, while experiencing …

Artificial intelligence-augmented additive manufacturing (AI2AM) represents a transformative frontier in digital fabrication, where artificial intelligence (AI) is embedded not as a peripheral tool, but as a central framework driving intelligent, adaptive, and autonomous additive manufacturing (AM) systems. Piercing The Algorithmic Fog Of War: Ai-Enabled Decision-Support Systems And The Responsibility Gap For War Crimes Under The Rome Statute, Karen H. Cho

This article examines how the integration of artificial intelligence-enabled decision-support systems (AI-DSS) into military conflict complicates the attribution of individual criminal responsibility for war crimes under the Rome Statute. Unlike lethal autonomous weapons systems which are intended to supplant human agency, AI-DSS augments human decision-making across the targeting cycle while simultaneously introducing opacity and bias. These characteristics risk facilitating indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks, undermining t4he principles of distinction and proportionality under international humanitarian law. Understanding the dynamics of charged and neutral particles in gaseous environments is important to a wide range of physical, chemical, and atmospheric processes. In this work, I present two complementary computational studies: one focused on Mutual Neutralization (MN) reactions, and the other on the rotational Brownian motion of aerosol particles with arbitrary shapes. Both efforts emphasize high-fidelity physical modeling through rigorous numerical and theoretical approaches. In the first study, the rate constants of mutual neutralization (MN) reactions are calculated self-consistently by incorporating the electron transfer probability, using Landau-Zener state transition theory with inputs derived from ab initio quantum chemistry calculations, …

As the global transition towards renewable energy accelerates, the integration of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) has become increasingly critical for maintaining grid stability and reliability. This thesis presents a physics-preserving machine learning framework designed for the detection and mitigation of cyberattacks in grid-integrated BESS-PV systems. The research addresses the growing concern surrounding cybersecurity threats that can compromise the functionality and safety of energy systems. The deleterious effects of surviving the sudden loss of a close other are widespread, yet largely underexamined among emerging adults. Despite evidence recognizing prolonged grief (PG), posttraumatic stress (PTS), and depression as related yet distinct syndromes, there is a gap in knowledge in how this these symptoms cohere and to what extent overall health functioning relates to this constellation in sudden loss survivors. The present study used network systems modeling to examine centrality patterns within and across domains of PG, PTS, depression, and overall health functioning among undergraduate students bereaved by sudden loss (N = 606). In his editorial introduction to the second chapter of Monsters, Andrew J. Hoffman argues that monsters function as embodiments of cultural fear, reflecting societal anxieties about the unknown, outsiders, and moral transgression (Hoffman 67). Monsters have existed alongside humanity since the earliest attempts to make sense of the natural world and human experience, carrying messages about morality, survival, and what it means to be human. Law libraries of all sorts face evolving environments, presenting both challenges and opportunities. In the face of uncertainty, law library leaders must develop strategy to define and implement a viable mission in the foreseeable future. In this presentation, panelists from four academic law libraries explore how libraries can better understand their competitive environment, stakeholder relationships, and strategic priorities in the face of budget and staffing constraints, technological change, and shifting user perceptions. This study examines the perspectives of occupational therapy (OT) practitioners on the purpose and use of the white coat. The white coat ceremony is common in many healthcare programs and professions, but little is known about how OT practitioners perceive and use the white coat. An anonymous Qualtrics survey, distributed through social media platforms (CommunOT, Instagram, Facebook), will collect data on practitioners’ education levels, years of practice, type of recognition ceremony, and frequency and context of white coat usage. Results from 79 practitioners showed that most did not receive a white coat ceremony during their OT education and that the …

Groundwater contamination from leaking underground storage tanks (USTs) poses a significant risk to nearby drinking water supplies, particularly in rural areas where private wells are common. One UST can hold over 100,000 liters (30,000+ gallons) of abandoned gasoline according to Geo Forward, a provider of environmental services, information, and news. Tt is estimated that there are over 500,000 USTs abandoned throughout the United States, capable of leaking into the groundwater.

In this study, the transport of liquid petroleum from a leaking UST towards a downgradient residential well was evaluated based on the effectiveness of various protection strategies. Four mitigation scenarios …

Part II of this Article deepens the expanded view of organizational law developed in Part I with a focus on its distributive features. Using the analytical framework of entity governance, resource governance, and use and purpose governance, Part II demonstrates how these dimensions of organizational law interact to constrain the development of affordable housing cooperatives.
