Final Reports in ENST 411: Environmental Community Projects
During the Spring 2023 semester, we worked as a group with East Buffalo Township supervisors to develop plans for newly-acquired Turtle Creek Park. Specifically, our project centered on facilitating community engagement with Phase One of the restoration plan and helping the Supervisors lay a foundation for future phases of the park's revitalization. Our report details our work on mapping the park's trail system, identifying and mapping areas of poor drainage, and creating a series of interpretive signs for public education about the park, its natural history, and its ecology.

Diplomacy Syllabi
International Organizations (be they lGOs or NGOs) are often poorly understood, but they serve very real and important functions in our world. International relations would be profoundly different if they did not exist. Our goal in this class is three-fold. First, we will trace the evolution of studies that address why international organizations are created. Second, we will discuss the functions that international organizations serve and the factors that shape their effectiveness. Third, we will apply this theoretical knowledge to empirical research on international organizations in the fields of political economy, security, the environment, and human rights.

Faculty Research 2023
Oncogene amplification on extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) drives the evolution of tumours and their resistance to treatment, and is associated with poor outcomes for patients with cancer1–6. At present, it is unclear whether ecDNA is a later manifestation of genomic instability, or whether it can be an early event in the transition from dysplasia to cancer. Here, to better understand the development of ecDNA, we analysed whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data from patients with oesophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) or Barrett’s oesophagus. These data included 206 biopsies
in Barrett’s oesophagus surveillance and EAC cohorts from Cambridge University. We also analysed WGS and histology data …
Legally Alone: The Redeemability Of Guardianship And Recommendations Toward Equitable Access, Patrick Hecker
Legally Alone: The Redeemability Of Guardianship And Recommendations Toward Equitable Access, Patrick Hecker
Northwestern Journal of Law & Social Policy
American adult guardianship needs reform. Thankfully, there is a small but dedicated reform movement that sheds helpful light on problems of underfunding, inattention, and abuse. While the movement’s efforts are needed, this Note argues it is a mistake to focus solely on the ways the guardianship system is sometimes harmful to people who already have access to guardianship. Few reformers consider the needs of people who would benefit from a guardian but do not have anyone to petition the court on their behalf.
This Note first argues that guardianship, despite its detractors, is redeemable. It can be part of a …

Evaluating And Comparing The Safety And Efficacy Of Rimegepant Versus Lasmiditan In Aborting Acute Migraine Headaches In The Adult Migraineur, Anthony Douthit
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters
Migraine headaches are one of the most common causes of primary headaches and one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. While the mechanism of migraines are not entirely understood, they can result in significant disability (DynaMed, 2023). Dihydroergotamine was introduced for migraine treatment in the 1920s and in the 1990s triptans were introduced and have been the mainstay of acute migraine treatment since their introduction (Solomon et al., 2008). In recent years, there have been several developments in the acute treatment and prophylaxis of migraine headaches. CGRP receptor antagonists and 5-HT1F receptor agonists have been researched, developed, and approved …

Metformin is commonly used to decrease insulin resistance and increase fertility in women with PCOS. However, it is known to cause many side effects. Myoinositol is a B-vitamin that is thought to also decrease insulin resistance and increase fertility with few side effects. The purpose of this literature review is to determine whether myoinositol is a comparable substitute for metformin in patients with PCOS suffering with infertility. This was done by evaluating pregnancy rates, insulin resistance, and side effects of metformin and myoinositol. A literature review found that both medications had similar pregnancy rates. Neither medication affected insulin resistance. However, …

The Effects Of Food On Mood: Can Symptoms Associated With Depression Be Improved By What You Eat?, Kaitlyn Prochnow
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters
The purpose of this research and literature review is to determine whether adherence to a Mediterranean diet or a plant-based diet has better effects on decreasing depression prevalence and/or symptom severity. A variety of keywords were used to search the online database, PubMed. Clinical trials and randomized controlled trials conducted within the last 20 years were included in the initial search. Exclusions were made if studies were not specific to Mediterranean or plant-based diets, or if they were focused on other psychiatric illnesses besides depression. For the final review, ten articles were selected. After thorough analyses and comparisons of the …
