Digital Scholarly Ecosystems: Challenges In Manuscript Preparation And Evaluation, Hrudayananda Padhan
Digital Scholarly Ecosystems: Challenges In Manuscript Preparation And Evaluation, Hrudayananda Padhan
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Scholarly communication in the digital era is becoming influenced by the problems of manuscript preparation, journal choice, and peer review in spite of the blistering technological progress and open-access publication development. Researchers frequently encounter difficulties with academic standards in writing, professional ethics of publication, engaging in the search of reliable journals, navigating complex editorial and peer review procedures, which are all the factors affecting the quality, credibility, and visibility of the research products. It follows a narrative literature review methodology to examine academic publications between 2015 and 2025, which will help to determine the main trends, organizational issues, and new …

Twenty-Four-Hour Intermittent Fasting Extends Lifespan At The Expense Of Fecundity In Daphnia, Meridith L. Smith
Twenty-Four-Hour Intermittent Fasting Extends Lifespan At The Expense Of Fecundity In Daphnia, Meridith L. Smith
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Dietary restriction (DR) is a well-established intervention for extending lifespan, yet the specific efficacy of intermittent fasting (IF) and its associated trade-offs remain under-explored in many Daphnia magna. This study investigated the effects of three IF intervals—2h, 24h, and 48h—on the longevity and fecundity of two clones of Daphnia. We hypothesized that longer fasting intervals would significantly extend lifespan at the cost of reproductive output, consistent with the disposable soma theory of resource allocation.
Our results demonstrate that 24h IF significantly increased longevity relative to ad libitum controls, even outperforming caloric restriction (CR) by reducing late-life mortality. In …
Comparison Of Age Distribution Among Individuals Experiencing Homelessness: Local And National Perspectives, Alexandria Cross, Samantha Somiah
Comparison Of Age Distribution Among Individuals Experiencing Homelessness: Local And National Perspectives, Alexandria Cross, Samantha Somiah
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Individuals experiencing homelessness represent a vulnerable population facing significant health and social challenges across the United States. Although people of all ages are affected, certain age groups are disproportionately represented. National data indicate that adults aged 35-54 make up the largest community of individuals experiencing homelessness, with a growing number of adults aged 55 and older. However, less is known about how these national trends compare to local populations, particularly in Appalachia. The purpose of this study is to compare the age distribution between individuals experiencing homelessness at the national level with local data from northeast Tennessee to identify potential …
Associations Between Controlling Coaching Behaviors And Mental Health Help Seeking Attitudes In Collegiate Athletes, Maria C. Cacheiro
Associations Between Controlling Coaching Behaviors And Mental Health Help Seeking Attitudes In Collegiate Athletes, Maria C. Cacheiro
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Although correlations between coaching behaviors and mental health have been investigated before, research that extensively analyzes collegiate athletes’ willingness to seek out mental healthcare has not been conducted. Previous research shows that coaching behaviors correlate with athlete mental health and even predict depression levels more accurately than their own personality traits. The current study aimed to analyze the relationship between athletes’ perceived controlling coaching behaviors and their mental health-help seeking attitudes. Participants were surveyed to determine their perception of controlling coaching behaviors, available emotional support, athlete-coach relationship satisfaction, and mental health seeking attitudes. It was found that perceived aspects of …

At The Intersection Of Policy, Mission, And Student Needs: How New Mexico Higher Education Professionals Make Transfer Decisions, Roberto P. Vasquez
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
Transfer is a critical step for community college students pursuing a bachelor’s degree, yet it remains a complex and inconsistent process. Transfer research highlights tensions related to student experience, institutional mission, and state transfer policy that higher education decision-makers must navigate.
This qualitative study examined how New Mexico higher education decision-makers experience these tensions in practice. Using narrative inquiry, thematic analysis was conducted on interviews with purposively selected decision-makers. Decision-maker stories were interpreted through a Critical Leadership Theory lens, examining how power, discretion, and institutional context shape transfer practices.
Findings indicate that policy is unevenly enacted, with institutional discretion significantly …

Cetaceans, despite their ability to cross wide distances, enabling mostly high levels of gene flow, can develop unique genetic lineages driven by variations in life-history traits, diverse migratory routes and local adaptation, complicating taxonomy and delineation of conservation units. Comprehensive genetic data are essential to overcome the challenges of obtaining suitable sample sizes from wild cetaceans while untangling cryptic species diversity. The Bryde's whale (Balaenoptera edeni) has a complicated discovery and taxonomic history that hinders accurate conservation assessments. In southern Africa, two populations are recognised: the inshore (SAi) and the offshore southeast Atlantic population (SEA). This study examines their phylogenetic …

College students are tasked with juggling a variety of responsibilities. To manage these responsibilities college students must rely on their executive functioning (EF). Executive function refers to cognitive processes that are used to set goals, make plans to achieve those goals, and shift between tasks when necessary. A large portion of college students report experiencing anxiety and anxiety has been theorized to negatively impact cognitive performance, generally. This study sought to explore the impact of anxiety on inhibition and vigilance performance. Participants’ anxiety scores significantly correlated with the number of omission errors made on the inhibition task. Participants also made …
Transform-Based Quantum Potential Reconstruction From Sparse Spectral Data: Generalized Bertlmann-Martin Moment Inequalities, Matthew Plott
Transform-Based Quantum Potential Reconstruction From Sparse Spectral Data: Generalized Bertlmann-Martin Moment Inequalities, Matthew Plott
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Inverse quantum problems ask whether a central potential V(r) can be reconstructed from limited spectral information under explicit modeling assumptions. This dissertation develops and validates a reproducible, transform-based framework for reconstructing ground-state radial densities rho(r) = |R(r)|^2 and central potentials V(r) from discrete bound-state energy levels using generalized Bertlmann-Martin (GBM) moment inequalities as physics-informed constraints. In the Laplace route, L(q) is assembled from moment data and inverted numerically to recover rho(r). In the Fourier/form-factor route, even moments determine F(q) and inverse transformation yields rho(r). To support sparse spectral inputs, analytic continuation is performed with Pade approximants, and the framework is …
Loneliness And Social Support In Shift Work Employees, Jacob Lamprecht
Loneliness And Social Support In Shift Work Employees, Jacob Lamprecht
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Loneliness, a discrepancy between the desired quantity and quality of one’s relationships and their current relationships, has been connected to increases in mortality, as well as lower job performance, reduced job satisfaction, and increased burnout. However more recent studies indicate that the recipient may not always perceive the support as beneficial, resulting in “unhelpful social support. The present study examined how helpful and unhelpful social support relate to loneliness among healthcare shift workers, a population that may be prone to fatigue and health risks. I hypothesized that helpful support would be negatively related to loneliness and that unhelpful support would …
Supervisor-Focused Impression Management And Social Undermining As Self-Enhancing Responses To Perceived Job Insecurity, J. Luke Wiley
Supervisor-Focused Impression Management And Social Undermining As Self-Enhancing Responses To Perceived Job Insecurity, J. Luke Wiley
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Job insecurity has become a more prevalent and harmful issue across many advanced economies. The present study was designed to investigate two ways in which employees may respond to perceived job insecurity. We hypothesized that employees experiencing job insecurity engage in impression management tactics directed at their supervisor (SFIM) or social undermining tactics directed at their coworkers. We further hypothesized that these processes or effects were moderated by employees’ core self-evaluations (CSE). Data were gathered through targeted sampling to workers in the federal government (Sample 1, N = 91), as well as convenience sampling (Sample 2, N = 146). Results …
Investigating The Pursuit Of Prosocial Goals Among Neurodivergent Adults: A Naturalistic Prospective Memory Study, Benjamin L. Hicks
Investigating The Pursuit Of Prosocial Goals Among Neurodivergent Adults: A Naturalistic Prospective Memory Study, Benjamin L. Hicks
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Neurodiversity refers to natural variations in neurological development and cognitive functioning. Individuals who diverge from typical developmental trajectories, commonly referred to as neurodivergent, often include those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Neurodivergent adults have received empirical spotlight, particularly in lab-based paradigms, in the field of prospective memory (PM), defined as the ability to remember and carry out intentions in the future. The current study (N = 62) employed a 2 (Group: Neurotypical vs. Neurodivergent) X 2 (Goal Type: Prosocial vs. Self-Interested) mixed factor design examining the impact of prosocial motivation on everyday prospective memory performance between …
Unsupervised Discovery And Validation Of Affective Engagement States Using Synchronized Eeg And Eye-Tracking During Digital Learning, Menekse Adar
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
This study explores affective engagement states in digital learning environments using synchronized EEG and eye-tracking data. EEG signals were collected from frontal channels and processed using sliding windows to extract band-power features. Frontal Alpha Asymmetry (FAA; log alpha power difference, F4–F3) and the Beta–Alpha ratio (BA; log beta/alpha power ratio) were used as affective proxies. Instead of predefined emotion labels, unsupervised clustering methods were applied to identify latent engagement patterns directly from EEG features. To ensure robustness, non-overlapping parity analysis and hold-out validation were performed. Statistical tests were conducted to compare FAA and BA values across the identified clusters. Results …

Unpacking American Reception Of Glocalized Non-English Content In The Netflix Era, Sur Govindarajan
Unpacking American Reception Of Glocalized Non-English Content In The Netflix Era, Sur Govindarajan
Dissertations
The swift growth of streaming services has revolutionized the worldwide distribution of media, making it possible for non-English and non-English-adjacent content to reach American consumers on a never-before-seen scale, which is sometimes perceived as an indication of increasing cultural tolerance. However, while a lot is known about what audiences see, far less is known about how they really understand and assess these stories. There is a fundamental vacuum in our understanding of audience reception as a lived, meaning-making process because previous research has mostly focused on consumption patterns. In order to close that gap, this study examines how American audiences …
