Implementing evidence-based practice requires professional clinical competence, institutional support, leadership skills, and a value for patient preferences. Leadership has been identified as a crucial component for implementing evidence-based practice. In this project, a transformational leadership model is utilized to implement evidence-based fetal monitoring in a rural community hospital through the work of a multidisciplinary team who set out to change practice and improve patient care for laboring women.

Two Sample Statistical Test For Location Parameters, Narinder Kumar, Arun Kumar

Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods

A class of distribution-free tests for the homogeneity of location parameters is proposed and compared with different competitors in terms of Pitman asymptotic relative efficiency. A numerical example is provided and a simulation study is made to check the performance of the tests.

Psychological Research on Urban Society

The introduction of single-use plastic into modern daily life has created an alarming number of plastic-waste in Indonesia. Government policies and social movements efforts to reduce and manage single-use plastic waste may not be enough. It is therefore important to study the factors related to the inclination of individual citizens to participate in the recycling effort, which is unfortunately still quite low. Increasingly complex healthcare systems require nurses to have a greater depth of knowledge and theory application to care for patients safely and competently. To prepare nurses for rapidly changing health care systems, the baccalaureate degree was accepted by the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) as the standard for entry to Registered Nurse practice across Canada and became the entry-to-practice requirement starting in 2005 (Wood, 2011).

Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAs) are synthetic chemicals that can pose adverse health effects such as kidney cancer, thyroid disease, pregnancy complications and liver damage due to human exposure in food and drinking water. In this study, the class of PFAs that will be investigated is Perfluorobutane sulfonic acid (PFBS), which is commonly found in the environment and consumer products such as wastewater, dust, and floor cleaners, and consists of 4 carbon chain bonded with fluorine and a sulfonic acid functional group. Using Acoustic Sound Indices To Investigate Sources Of Turbidity In A Midwestern Agricultural Stream, Youmi Kay Hong

Turbidity is an important measure of drinking water quality. However, there is difficulty ascertaining sources of turbidity due to the resources needed to monitor streams and can be puzzling when there are diel cycles within a stream despite no changes in water level. Six Mile Creek, located in Mclean County, Illinois, is a small agricultural stream in the Evergreen Lake watershed that exhibits diel turbidity cycle changes of 10 NTUs. We hypothesized that turbidity is being caused by increased bioactivity in the stream at night. As faculty of an educational leadership doctoral program (EdD) aligned with the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) principles, we acknowledge the importance of inquiry to develop scholarly practitioners. Applying the tenet of Inquiry as Practice, our EdD faculty critically examined the doctoral curriculum to explore ways to effectively prepare our doctoral students to learn and apply research methodology meaningfully. Under Xi Jinping, China has expanded its aid allocation worldwide and has introduced global infrastructure projects to connect itself to countries everywhere. With such ambitious aid allocation, China has been the recipient of both admiration and scorn on the international stage. This paper assesses these concerns using data from 2000 to 2017 to determine how Chinese aid affects recipient states’ economic and political institutions. Specifically, this research looked to ascertain if there is a measurable Xi Effect in recipient states. The quantitative analysis shows the Xi Effect is small and positive on economic institutions and political institutions, signifying Xi Jinping’s …

Background:Compared with traditional approaches, gaming strategies are promising interventions for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We developed a serious game, The Secret Trail of Moon (TSTM), for ADHD treatment.

Objective:The main objective of this clinical trial was to demonstrate the effectiveness of an add-on, either TSTM or Therapeutic Chess (TC), in previously optimally drug-titrated, clinically stable patients with ADHD.

Methods:This study is a prospective, unicentric, randomized clinical trial in clinically stable patients with ADHD, aged 12 to 22 years. The TSTM (n=35) and TC groups (n=34) performed 12 weekly sessions of their respective treatments. The control group (CG) patients …

Literature indicates that there is a common need for specialized support and orientation for NCAA transfer student-athletes. This project examines the unique challenges both transfer students and student-athletes face when transferring into a new institution. Throughout the literature the need for additional training for higher education (orientation) faculty and staff is presented. Training to increase knowledge and awareness of student-athletes’ academic requirements required by the National Collegiate Athletic Association is created. It is anticipated by training faculty and staff working with transfer students that the number of transfer student-athletes deemed as academically ineligible following their transfer process will lessen.

Germplasm repositories offer many potential benefits to commercial farm operations, including preserving genetic resources and increasing production capabilities. Aquaculture industries have yet to take advantage of repository storage despite decades of research evaluating cryopreservation protocols. Eastern oysters (Crassostrea virginica), for example, are a useful research species when addressing this problem. Oysters are an economically important aquaculture species and a high-throughput cryopreservation method for oysters already exists. Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1, DM1, is a multi-systemic muscle wasting disorder that results from expression of expanded CTG repeats in the DMPK gene in humans. Three transgenic Drosophila melanogaster lines have been created containing 60, 250, or 480 CTG repeats to model DM1. The transgenic repeats are expressed using the GAL4/UAS system. Expression of long-repeat transgenes ((CTG)₂₅₀ and i(CTG)₄₈₀) produces phenotypes consistent with DM1, relative to control lines ((CTG)₆₀). The precise chromosomal location of insertion of the transgenes has not been reported. We used classical genetic approaches to localize CTG-repeat transgene insertion to a specific …

Selecting the research approach that addresses the research question is often challenging for novice researchers. However, getting a better understanding of the research approaches available in the field, is likely to help novice researchers identify and choose the research approach that fits their situation. In this paper, we discuss microethnography, ethnographic case study, and mini-ethnography case study in order to show that these approaches may have similarities but are different. The author hopes that this discussion will help researchers get a better understanding of these approaches and dissipate the confusion that may exist.

Why do some international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) continue work in conflict settings while others leave? Understanding the motivations influencing INGO behavior in fragile and conflict settings is important for scholars and practitioners: INGOs are a major part of the network of international third-party actors in conflict and fragile settings and provide much of the services funded by third-party state donors. Conflict-related rape—once thought to be an inevitable symptom of war—has been legally recognized as both a distinct weapon of war and a crime against humanity, yet it continues to be utilized with impunity. To understand why combatants rape, this paper examines the aspects of military culture that create environments in which raping is not only permissible, but encouraged; additionally, this paper considers cases of genocide in Bosnia and Rwanda in which rape was used systematically to achieve political goals, and how these conflicts contributed to new conceptions of rape in international criminal law. This project seeks to answer the question, “How can a writer use an old story to shine new light on modern issues and make the invisible visible?” My adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is a genderbent retelling with queer themes while my adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan is a dark reimagining of Mrs. Darling as an antihero protagonist who must become Captain Hook to try to save her children. Both my research and these two plays focus on bringing visibility to marginalized communities, specifically women and members of the queer community.

A measurement of the ⁵²Cr(d,p) ⁵³Cr reaction at 16 MeV was performed using the Florida State University Super-Enge Split-Pole Spectrograph to determine single-neutron energies for the 2p3/2, 2p1/2, and 1f5/2 orbits. We were able to observe 24 unique states in ⁵³Cr. Using the energies and angular distributions we were able to calculate energy centroids. We discuss these preliminary results in the context of other N = 29 isotones and prospects for future work.
