Recently, we found that dividing attention reduced recollection and familiarity for visual objects, but a different pattern emerged for auditory object memory: auditory object recollection was not affected by dividing attention. This could be attributable to differing levels of baseline performance with visual memory far exceeding auditory memory. Thus, we attempted to equate baseline performance in both modalities in order to adequately investigate the previous findings.

Breastfeeding has many benefits for both mother and their child (e.g., lower rates of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, obesity, asthma, cardiovascular disease, etc.). Recent studies suggest that 93% of children born in Mexico are breastfed their child compared to 81.1% of Nevadan women reported breastfeeding their child. Previous studies suggest that socio-cultural factors such as socioeconomic status, education level, mother’s age, acculturation, cultural beliefs, and perceptions are associated with breastfeeding. Many studies have not use a validated acculturation measure.

Sleep and circadian rhythms are shown to impact cellular and whole-body metabolism and exercise capacity. Mice experience adaptations (e.g., hypertrophy, increased time to exhaustion) as a result of voluntary aerobic exercise. Adaptations to aerobic exercise are influenced by the time of day at which exercise is performed due to alterations in transcriptional and translational processes that affect mitochondrial abundance. It is critical to examine the gross effects of exercise timing on metabolic adaptations and other adaptations to aerobic exercise. Nonstick pots and pans, takeout containers, waterproof clothes: these are items that people use in their daily lives. A common denominator in all of these items lies PFAS, or Per- and Poly-Fluoroalkyl Substances. Our exposure to these chemicals has proven to be toxic and carcinogenic to human health. Despite the evidence of their harmful effects, many companies still continue to incorporate these forever chemicals into their products, thus prolonging their exposure to humans.

School Refusal behaviors can be attributed to four distinct reasons: avoiding school because it induces negative emotions (ANA), avoiding social or evaluative situations (ESE), seeking attention from others (AGB), and pursuing rewards outside of the school environment (PTR) (Kearney, 2002). The viability of finely ground waste glass as cement replacement is linked to the amount of time the concrete is allowed to cure. Testing beyond 91 days was rare, with only one study using an entire year. Replacement levels below 25% provided the best results in compressive strength. The parameters for future testing derived from this literature review will use ASTM C39/C39M-21 to test the compressive strength of specimens with 0%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% finely ground glass replacing OPC with measurements taken at 1, 7, 28, 56, 90, 182 and 365 days of curing.

Water and energy conservation are growing concerns around the world.

Energy conservation policies create both energy and water savings (Gu et al., 2016). Conversely, water conservation impacts energy usage (Sokolow et al., 2016). Heating water in the home accounts for 20% of the home’s energy use (Chini et al., 2016).

Our study examines the relationship between water conservation and energy conservation.

Background: Vaccines have positive effects on the course of epidemics. This study was conducted to determine individuals’ attitudes toward coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) vaccines, their health fatalism, and factors affecting these.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 944 participants living in Turkey, who were included in the study by snowball sampling, one of the nonprobability random sampling methods. Participant information form, attitudes toward the COVID-19 vaccine scale, and religious health fatalism scale were used to collect the study data. Independent sample t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Pearson correlation analysis were used in the data analysis.

Background: Prolonged exposure to UVB radiation causes DNA damage in skin cells by raising the levels of reactive oxygen species, resulting in the production of inflammatory factors and skin issues. Plant extracts are frequently used to counteract photodamage due to their antioxidant properties. One example is the floral extract of the butterfly pea plant, which contains flavonoid antioxidants. However, the effect of the extract on inflammatory factors is unknown. This study investigated how tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and caspase-3 expression changed when a butterfly pea flower extract gel was applied topically to UVB-exposed animals.

This thesis addresses hexapod robot motion control. Insect morphology and locomotion patterns inform the design of a robotic model, and motion control is achieved via trajectory planning and bio-inspired principles. Additionally, deep learning and multi-agent reinforcement learning are employed to train the robot motion control strategy with leg coordination achieves using a multi-agent deep reinforcement learning framework. The weak Galerkin finite element method is a flexible and effective numerical technique for solving partial differential equations (PDEs). The goal of this dissertation is to develop new weak Galerkin schemes for solving PDEs on uniform triangular partitions in 2D. These schemes will improve the efficiency of the weak Galerkin method and avoiding numerical locking. First, we investigate the lowest-order weak Galerkin finite element method for solving reaction-diffusion equations with singular perturbations.
