Mental Health Navigators Bridging The Gap Of Care, Valentina Loreto-Ashley May 2023

Mental Health Navigators Bridging The Gap Of Care, Valentina Loreto-Ashley

DNP Qualifying Manuscripts

Individuals with schizophrenia are most vulnerable at time of discharge due to risk factors that lead to relapse, re-admission, suicide and/or danger to others. A successful discharge process can decrease overall care costs, promotes team collaboration, supports the therapeutic relationship between client and care provider, and helps the client to reach autonomy and self-efficacy. This DNP is a quality improvement project that aims at educating Mental Health Navigators about symptoms of schizophrenia, medications management, and community resources. Effectiveness of the educational intervention will be assessed as the differences between the pre- and post-test assessment score on insight or lack of …

Does The Peer-Led Honest, Open, Proud Program Reduce Stigma’S Impact For Everyone? An Individual Participant Data Meta-Regression Analysis, Thomas Klein, Markus Kösters, Patrick W. Corrigan, Winnie W.S. Mak, Lindsay Sheehan, Colleen Conley, Nathalie Oexle, Nicolas Rüsch

Psychology: Faculty Publications and Other Works

Purpose

Many people with mental illness experience self-stigma and stigma-related stress and struggle with decisions whether to disclose their condition to others. The peer-led Honest, Open, Proud (HOP) group program supports them in their disclosure decisions. In randomized controlled trials, HOP has shown positive effects on self-stigma and stigma stress on average. This study examined individual predictors of HOP outcomes and tested the hypothesis that stigma stress reduction at the end of HOP mediates positive HOP effects at follow-up.

Methods

Six RCTs were included with data at baseline, post (after the HOP program) and at 3- or 4-week follow-up. Baseline …

The purpose of “Atlantic Zambesi Global” is to offer an online marketplace that does not exist in my home country. People in Guinea struggle when they want something that does not exist in the region. The current way they get the product they want: 1. Either by someone getting the product for them 2. By traveling to get the product themselves. I created an online delivery system that will help people get their basic needs products at home and spend less.

A Cross-Cultural Exploration: Global Methods Of Contraception And Family Planning, Cora Pereira

Honors Program Theses and Projects

In today's world, women are attempting to take control of their reproductive choices. Some have been met with roadblocks that may prohibit or limit access to women's healthcare centers and family planning services. This research explores women’s reproductive health and contraception usage and the impact of cultural influences globally. Cultural adversities may overshadow the benefits of having access to healthcare facilities along with contributing to the circulation of inaccurate information. This may prevent or deter women from accessing healthcare facilities and methods of family planning. Understanding variation in the United States and in other cultures will contribute to the global …

“In Each Class I Went To, There Were People That I Was Able To Talk To”: Sense Of Belonging In Stem Linked-Learning Communities, Shannon Hafey May 2023

“In Each Class I Went To, There Were People That I Was Able To Talk To”: Sense Of Belonging In Stem Linked-Learning Communities, Shannon Hafey

Honors Program Theses and Projects

Women, students of color, and students of low socioeconomic status are historically underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs (Apriceno, 2020). Interventions such as linked-learning communities have been introduced in STEM programs to improve student success and to combat underrepresentation; however, the research thus far is predominantly quantitative. While providing useful insight, quantitative data does not reflect unique individual experiences, so qualitative research will better allow for understanding of student experiences. This research examined the role of linked-learning communities among first-semester STEM students with varying social identities and backgrounds. During semi-structured interviews, participants (N = 10) were asked …

Multilingual Students’ Language Learning In U.S. Classrooms, Monique Santos May 2023

Multilingual Students’ Language Learning In U.S. Classrooms, Monique Santos

Honors Program Theses and Projects

Over time, the United States (sometimes referred to as America) education system has shown inequality within its teaching methods, particularly in English classrooms from grades K-12. Despite the increase in diversity and English language learners in public schools, multicultural students have personally endured various forms of oppression in classrooms. Within this research, there will be an examination of the classroom setting from people who experienced their education in both their birth country, which happens to be Brazil in this particular research, as well as the United States. There is also additional research done from library databases, online sources, and readings …

The inclusion of LGBTQ literature in the high school English Language Arts classroom is a necessary step that secondary schools should take to promote culturally responsive teaching that represents the growing number of adolescents identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer in American public schools. The Relationship Between Social Media Usage During The Covid-19 Pandemic, And Its Effect On The Youth Voter Turnout In The 2020 General Election, Mary Gilmartin May 2023

The Relationship Between Social Media Usage During The Covid-19 Pandemic, And Its Effect On The Youth Voter Turnout In The 2020 General Election, Mary Gilmartin

Honors Program Theses and Projects

History has shown that young voters have been known to be a lagging demographic when it comes to voter turnout in general elections. However, in 2020 there was a sudden spike in voter turnout in the age group of 18-24-year-olds. This sudden spike in voter turnout can be explained by the societal changes the youth demographic faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic and isolation protocols. Due to social distancing, normal in-person political participation shifted to online environments, especially on social media. Through social media, young people began to become more engaged politically as they gained access to political information and …
