Physical interactions with augmented reality glasses such as tapping, swiping, pressing buttons, etc. can sometimes lead to false positives or unintended input due to the difficulty of precisely controlling the hand while touching the device. This disclosure describes techniques that use a secondary wearable device, e.g., a wrist-worn device such as a smartwatch or fitness tracker, to detect when a user is reaching for a head-worn device such as augmented reality glasses. Upon such detection, the inertial movement sensitivity of the head-worn device is lowered or disabled to mitigate unintended selection changes while the tap gesture is being performed. When …

Urology Faculty Publications
Introduction: As a composite immunonutritional biomarker, the Hemoglobin, Albumin, Lymphocyte, Platelet (HALP) score has shown promise in assessing a patient's overall health status by integrating several routinely collected laboratory indicators. This biomarker has been examined in many different populations of patients and disease states (i.e., cancer), but an integrated, universal rubric using standardized thresholds has not thus far been developed. Pre-existing large population-based databases represent an ideal source to examine the distribution of HALP and the influence of diverse health statuses on this score.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey …

Using Curriculum Mapping As A Tool To Align The Information Literacy And Evidence-Based Research Learning Outcomes In Nursing Curriculum, Jane Wu
Library Faculty & Staff Scholarship
This research investigated how to use curriculum mapping as a curriculum-integration tool to identify the components of information literacy (IL) and evidence-based practice (EBP) in the nursing curriculum for the future systematic incorporation of information literacy components in teaching EBP. The primary objective is to strengthen information literacy and evidence-based research competency. The ACRL information literacy framework in Higher Education, Information Literacy Competency Standards for Nursing, EBP Competencies, and the EBP research model were used to provide structure to create a map and crosswalk of information literacy and EBP student learning outcomes. We obtained 59 copies of the nursing undergraduate …

Electrocyclic reactions are characterized by the concerted formation and cleavage of both σ and π bonds through a cyclic structure. This structure is known as a pericyclic transition state for thermal reactions and a pericyclic minimum in the excited state for photochemical reactions. However, the structure of the pericyclic geometry has yet to be observed experimentally. We use a combination of ultrafast electron diffraction and excited state wavepacket simulations to image structural dynamics through the pericyclic minimum of a photochemical electrocyclic ring-opening reaction in the molecule α-terpinene. The structural motion into the pericyclic minimum is dominated by rehybridization of two carbon …
Implementation Of An Implicit Bias Training In A Doctor Of Nurse Practitioner Program, Macdana Selecon
Implementation Of An Implicit Bias Training In A Doctor Of Nurse Practitioner Program, Macdana Selecon
DNP Qualifying Manuscripts
Background: Implicit bias in healthcare delivery is the unconscious prejudice individuals might feel about another person or group. All healthcare providers are susceptible to implicit bias which can negatively influence patient-provider communication. Implicit bias is linked to disparities in maternal health outcomes. According to the CDC, the maternal mortality rate for non-Hispanic Black women is 2.9 times higher than the rate for non-Hispanic White women (Hoyert, 2022).
Problem: Implicit bias (IB) training is not provided in all graduate nursing programs. As a result, graduate nursing students are not prepared to manage IB during clinical rotations and post-graduation, thus, are at …

HPD Articles
Leriche syndrome, a rare and critical complication of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), affects the distal abdominal aorta (infrarenal) and, similar to PAD, is a result of plaque buildup in the arterial lumen. The Leriche syndrome triad includes claudication in the proximal lower extremity, decreased or absent femoral pulses, and, in some cases, impotence. This article presents a patient with an atypical presentation of foot pain who was subsequently found to have Leriche syndrome. The patient was a 59-year-old female, a former smoker, who presented to the emergency department (ED) with atraumatic, acute right foot pain. All right lower extremity pulses …

Influenza C virus (ICV) is increasingly associated with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in children and its disease severity is worse than the influenza B virus, but similar to influenza A virus associated CAP. Despite the ubiquitous infection landscape of ICV in humans, little is known about its replication and pathobiology in animals. The goal of this study was to understand the replication kinetics, tissue tropism, and pathogenesis of human ICV (huICV) in comparison to the swine influenza D virus (swIDV) in guinea pigs. Intranasal inoculation of both viruses did not cause clinical signs, however, the infected animals shed virus in nasal …

M.A. in Higher Education Leadership: Action Research Projects
The purpose of my action research was to gain a better understanding of working mothers at the University of San Diego (USD) and the influence of institutional policies in their lives. My research question was: What can I learn from the lived experiences of those who identify as women and mothers and work at USD that will bring awareness and changes to the policies and practices affecting them? As a mother working at USD, this research has significance in my life. Participants included 14 full-time staff and administrators with children 5 years old or younger. My findings indicate USD mothers …

Using Critical Incident Debriefing after Code Blue Events to Support Registered Nurses
Section I: Abstract
Background: During a code blue event (CBE), the environment becomes highly stressful and intense. Nurses rapidly transition from performing life-saving procedures on their patients to carrying out their usual duties. Without proper debriefing, nurses cannot properly process their emotions leading to increased burnout and secondary traumatic stress (Stamm, 2010).
Local Problem: In 2021, the nurses at Providence Saint John’s Health Center (2021a) responded to 110 CBEs, a 43% increase from 2020. Without a process for critical incident debriefing (CID), these nurses were exposed to trauma …

A Neutrosophic Framework For Assessment Of Distributed Circular Water To Give Neighborhoods Analysis To Prepare For Unexpected Stressor Events, Mohamed Abouhawwash, Mohammed Jameel, Sameh S. Askar
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
The global water issue is caused by a number of factors, including extreme weather, population increase, and industrial activity. One of the reasons we're running out of water as a planet is because of the outdated take-make-use-throw-away linear paradigm of handling water. It has been suggested that the circular economy may help alleviate water shortages by inspiring a fundamental change in municipal water infrastructure. Reduced consumption, recovered natural resources, and minimal waste are the three pillars of a circular water supply. A dispersed water supply is more adaptable and robust than a centralized one because it gives communities more time …

University Libraries Faculty Scholarship
The University at Albany Libraries has integrated visually compelling, subject-based Curated Collections into its discovery tool, Primo VE. These collections encompass resources on specific subjects, that highlight authors or groups, celebrate a genre, or that bring together a variety of resources to address campus initiatives, current events, or popular research topics. Curated Collections is an opportunity for the Libraries' to highlight what is special, new, trending, important, or underappreciated in our collections. We propose this project as a virtual browsing model to fuel intellectual curiosity, and seek to explore similar initiatives at attendees’ libraries.

What is Diversity?
Diversity refers to the degree of differences in the composition of the workforce in terms of such constructs as race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, national origin, language, or other social identities. Though there are certainly other types of employee differences worth assessing (e.g., acquired diversity characteristics, such as education, skills, personality, preferences, attitudes), the focus here is on inherent social identities, especially those that are related to differences in representation, power, and privilege. Note that diversity is a characteristic of a group, not an individual.
