Hedging An Efficient Portfolio Against Expected Inflation Risk: An Applied Research In The Iraq Stock Exchange, Hasanain Faisal Hasan, Mustafa Muneer Isma’Eel
Journal of Economics and Administrative Sciences
This research aims to hedge the efficient portfolio of the investor against the expected inflation risk and to evaluate the extent of improvement in the quality of its performance. It has applied to an intentional sample of companies whose shares traded on the Iraq Stock Exchange, consisting of (37) companies, with (120) monthly observations for each company from 2012 to 2021. The simple ranking model of Elton et al. (1978) has been used to build the nominally efficient portfolio and the inflation-adjusted model of Chen and Moore (1985) to hedge a portfolio against expected inflation risk. The Sharpe, Treynor, Jensen, …

Congenital scoliosis (CS) is the most common congenital spinal disorder caused by congenital vertebral malformations (CVMs), influenced by genetic and environmental factors and exhibiting diverse clinical presentations. Here, we identified the critical roles of Vangl1 and Vangl2, two core components in the Wnt/planar cell polarity (Wnt/PCP) signaling pathway, in vertebral development and in predisposition to CVMs in CS patients. We found that in Vangl mutant mouse models, the CVMs present in a Vangl gene dose- and gestational hypoxia-dependent manner. Our studies reveal a complex etiology of CS and its association with Wnt/PCP signaling.

Alterations in intraocular and external pressure critically involve the pathogenesis of glaucoma, traumatic retinal injury (TRI), and other retinal disorders, and retinal neurons have been reported to express multiple mechanical-sensitive channels (MSCs) in recent decades. However, the role of MSCs in visual functions and pressure-related retinal conditions has been unclear. This review will focus on the variety and functional significance of the MSCs permeable to K+, Na+, and Ca2+, primarily including the big potassium channel (BK); the two-pore domain potassium channels TRAAK and TREK; Piezo; the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC); and the transient receptor potential channels vanilloid TRPV1, TRPV2, and …

Unclos And The Law Of Occupation: On The Rights And Duties Of Occupying States In Maritime Areas, Louis Mcdonough Monroy
International Law Studies
As of today, the framework of ocean governance of coastal maritime areas created by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) is well understood and accepted by the international community. However, there are large and important areas of ocean space around the world that are subject to a more nuanced framework of interrelated norms. These are maritime areas that have come under the effective control of occupying States, often through the use of force. As such, the legal framework applicable to these maritime areas is that of the law of occupation. Nevertheless, because of the specificities …

The underlying mechanism(s) by which the PML::RARA fusion protein initiates acute promyelocytic leukemia is not yet clear. We defined the genomic binding sites of PML::RARA in primary mouse and human hematopoietic progenitor cells with V5-tagged PML::RARA, using anti-V5-PML::RARA chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing and CUT&RUN approaches. Most genomic PML::RARA binding sites were found in regions that were already chromatin-accessible (defined by ATAC-seq) in unmanipulated, wild-type promyelocytes, suggesting that these regions are "open" prior to PML::RARA expression. We found that GATA binding motifs, and the direct binding of the chromatin "pioneering factor" GATA2, were significantly enriched near PML::RARA binding sites. Proximity labeling studies …

Common Heritage Of Mankind Beyond Treaty Provisions: Customary Or General Principle?, Agustina Merdekawati, Marsudi Triatmodjo, Irkham Afnan Trisandi Hasibuan
Indonesian Journal of International Law
The Common Heritage of Mankind (CHM) has become a prevalent principle adopted in international treaties governing objects and resources situated beyond national jurisdictions. Despite this widespread adoption, it is still a subject of debate whether it constitutes something more than a mere treaty provision that only binds state parties. This paper aims to analyze the position of CHM in the sources of international law, with a focus on analyzing its existence as a customary norm and a general principle of international law. There has been no international dispute involving CHM, which leaves the question of its position in international law …

Co-Designing Of Patient Safety Incident Disclosure Process In Primary Healthcare System In Qatar, Nawal Khattabi, Reena Francis, Reem Abdul Malik, Amal Al Ali, Mariam Abdul Malik
Patient Experience Journal
The importance of disclosing a patient safety incident to the patient involved is recognized. In Qatar, there is no legal requirement for disclosure. The primary health care system in Qatar includes 30 health centers located around the country, managed by the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC). Over 63 nationalities of staff deliver care in the health centers, many coming from countries where a disclosure policy is not implemented, and staff would be reluctant to disclose an incident to a patient for fear of reprimand. Many patients who receive care in the health centers come from countries where the health system …

The COVID-19 pandemic saw rapid adoption of telehealth, including remote patient monitoring (RPM). There is limited evidence about how patients and staff experience such services in New Zealand. This study aimed to understand the acceptability of the RPM experience, particularly for Maori and Pacific peoples, and identify strengths, gaps, and limitations to inform future delivery of services. A mixed methods study was undertaken between 4 July and 11 September 2022 in Auckland. We conducted telephone surveys with patients and semi-structured interviews with patients and staff. Survey, and clinical and administrative data were analysed descriptively using SPSS. Interviews were analysed using …

The WHO Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) continues to show inconsistent success in reducing surgical complications in high-income settings. Previous implementation research identified potential barriers and facilitators to success, but it primarily consists of qualitative studies with small sample sizes in limited geographic areas. We conducted a multi-country mixed-methods study of barriers and facilitators to SSC implementation to better inform policies and practices for improving SSC buy-in and use to maximize its impact. This convergent parallel mixed-methods study utilized survey and interview data from surgical team members practicing in five countries. Survey data were analyzed using χ2 analysis or Fisher’s …

Patients often have limited understanding of the emergency department (ED) care process, which can increase anxiety, frustration, and confusion. This study implemented and assessed the usefulness of a poster explaining the ED care process. A large wall-mounted poster illustrating the patient journey was developed; two different data collection techniques were used. First, a QR code/URL was used to passively collect patient reactions to the poster in 15 EDs. Due to limited response, a paper survey was developed and delivered by research assistants in three study sites using a consecutive sampling method. A total of 67 responses were collected from the …
