Understanding Chain Dynamics And Conformation Of Conjugated Polymers In Films And Solutions, Guorong Ma
Understanding Chain Dynamics And Conformation Of Conjugated Polymers In Films And Solutions, Guorong Ma
Dissertations
Significant efforts have been dedicated to the development of high-performance organic electronic materials, endowed with novel attributes that traditional inorganic silicon-based electronics cannot provide. Conjugated polymers stand out as the predominant class of organic semiconducting materials, offering a unique avenue to manufacture flexible, ductile, large-area, and customizable electronic devices through cost-effective solution processing. Despite the extensive array of processing methods, there remains a significant gap in our understanding of the dynamic and thermodynamic properties of conjugated polymer solutions and thin films. This dissertation endeavors to unravel the intricate structure-property-processing relationships of these materials by delving into their mechanical, dynamic, and …

Uganda’S Parish Development Model In Practice: Rationale, Impact And Relevance For Bottom-Up Economic Development In Africa, Steve Kayizzi-Mugerwa
Southern African Journal of Policy and Development
The Parish Development Model (PDM), launched by the Ugandan authorities in early 2022, is the country’s latest attempt at making devolution work for local development, financial and social inclusion at the national level, and growth-enhancing economic transformation more broadly. The introduction of the PDM in Uganda raises the question of whether state-led local development initiatives, when undertaken in partnership with the private sector and civil society are feasible in a resource-constrained country. To succeed, the PDM will require a “whole-of-government” approach and strong institutions, both are still in the making. The paper looks at four specific challenges of PDM implementation: …

Sowing Seeds For Success: Equitable Grading In The Information Literacy Classroom, Alicia G. Vaandering
Public Services Faculty Presentations
What impact does your grading and assessment have on student success and retention? Research has shown that traditional grading can have a negative impact on student learning by placing students who come to the classroom with less knowledge or experience with class content at a disadvantage. This session will introduce the practice of ungrading, an umbrella term that encompasses a wide range of equitable grading strategies and practices like specifications and contract grading. Together, attendees will question how library and LIS educators can rethink their grading on a spectrum that ranges from redesigning a single assignment to overhauling an entire …

Music In The Sky Like Bombers: Representations Of Airplanes In Interwar Futurist Music, W. E. Cooke
Music In The Sky Like Bombers: Representations Of Airplanes In Interwar Futurist Music, W. E. Cooke
Music Graduate Theses
Since its founding in 1909 by F. T. Marinetti, the artistic movement of futurism gathered momentum as a politically charged avant-garde that challenged tradition and day-to-day life while promoting nationalism, war, and complete artistic expression. Marinetti and his artistic movement followed fascisms’ slow march to power through multiple aesthetic phases, beginning with the study of movement through plastic dynamism (1909-1919), engaging with speed and controlled power through machine aesthetics (1920-1929), cumulating with the more mystical aeroaesthetics (1929-1944), which Marinetti described as “the daughter of fascist aviation and Italian Futurism.”
This posturing was not done merely in support of fascism. In …
The Active Self: Healing The Perceptions Of Lifetime Physical Activity, Julia Lynn Brookshire
The Active Self: Healing The Perceptions Of Lifetime Physical Activity, Julia Lynn Brookshire
Education Honors Theses
Physical activity is not always perceived in a positive light or feel accessible to all. There are many barriers for individuals to being physically active, but this does not have to be the case. Whether it be the assumed time commitment, energy individuals think it takes or not knowing where to start, these barriers can keep people from a physically active lifestyle. This research breaks down some of the barriers to change people’s perceptions of lifetime physical activity.

In the listening condition, participants raised their hands when they heard or said the keyword. In the paced speech and singing conditions, the children omitted only that target word while speaking or singing the other lyrics. We measured baseline inhibition and executive functioning (Stroop Color Word test) and attention (Sustained Attention Response …
Modern News Consumption Habits Further Exacerbate Bias And Intellectual Isolation Of Audiences, Gabriella Lee Morando
Modern News Consumption Habits Further Exacerbate Bias And Intellectual Isolation Of Audiences, Gabriella Lee Morando
Communication Science and Disorders Honors Theses
Trends show that users continue to turn to social media as one of, if not their only, source for news. Compared to how legacy news media gives consumers a comprehensive overview of information, social media platforms’ recommender systems and algorithms repeatedly feed users tailored sets of news, or what can be perceived as news. A systematic literature review found that users can adopt the same biased views reflected on their social media feeds as they are placed into echo chambers or “filter bubbles” of information. While social media offers users the allure of feeling informed almost instantaneously, the accuracy and …

The Relationship Between Electronic Media And Hearing Loss On Language Development: A Pilot Study, Sarah Marie Mahnesmith
Communication Science and Disorders Honors Theses
Researchers agree that one of the methods by which infants learn spoken language through caregivers’ use of infant directed speech. However, the quantity and quality of language during caregiver-infant interactions may decrease in the presence of electronic media, and media may not only limit language input but create a more complex listening situation for children with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between electronic media exposure in the homes of children with SNHL, as compared to peers with normal hearing (NH), and later language skills. This study will provide novel information on …

Multimodal Communication Support For Word Recognition And Literacy In Children With Language Delays, Mackenzie Elizabeth Beal
Multimodal Communication Support For Word Recognition And Literacy In Children With Language Delays, Mackenzie Elizabeth Beal
Communication Science and Disorders Honors Theses
As the definition of being literate transforms from being able to read and write to being able to decipher a variety of mediums (e.g., music, text emojis, and more!), it is necessary that curriculum is adapted to reflect these changes. This paper discusses 11 preschoolers aged 4 to 6 years with language delays and their ability to recognize one-syllable words. Two different interventions assessed word recognition. One intervention paired gestures with five words. The second intervention had participants create self-interpreted drawings for each of the remaining five words. To determine whether or not gestures and drawing were effective literacy strategies, …
