Building The Roots Of Word Knowledge: Using Morphological Instruction In Latin Roots To Build Word Analysis Skills For Middle School Students., Sara Sukalski

College of Education Theses and Dissertations

Proficient reading requires the ability to analyze words for various properties, including pronunciation, meaning, and syntactical function. However, most instruction in word analysis is limited to phonics instruction provided in the early elementary grades. For older students, whose words largely center units of meaning, or morphemes, early phonics instruction does not provide the multifaceted knowledge of word properties these older students need to manipulate the complex words of their curricula. Therefore, this study examined the effects of direct morphological analysis instruction focusing on Latin roots on middle school students’ ability to orally decode and construct meaning for morphologically complex words. …

Infections, despite vaccination, can be clinically consequential for frail nursing home residents (NHR). Poor vaccine-induced antibody quality may add risk for such subsequent infections and more severe disease. We assessed antibody binding avidity, as a surrogate for antibody quality, among NHR and healthcare workers (HCW). We longitudinally sampled 112 NHR and 52 HCWs who received the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine after each dose up to the Wuhan-BA.4/5-based Omicron bivalent boosters. We quantified anti-spike, anti-receptor binding domain (RBD), and avidity levels to the ancestral Wuhan, Delta, and Omicron BA.1 & 4/5 strains. The primary vaccination series produced substantial anti-spike and RBD levels …

Anti-Channeling Methods For Coalbed Methane Production Using L-Type Horizontal Wells, Liu Zhan, Zhang Qunxia, Geng Yuxin, Luo Dan, Wang Minggang

Coal Geology & Exploration

Coalbed methane (CBM) production using L-type horizontal wells can yield stable single-well production of up to above 8 000 m3/d. However, due to the lack of sand settling pockets, L-type horizontal wells fail to achieve gas-water separation under the action of gravity. Consequently, gas channeling from tubing is prone to occur, significantly decreasing pumping efficiency and restricting further drainage and pressure reduction. By optimizing the lifting process for production in the early stage, the gas channeling from tubing has been somewhat alleviated. However, the anti-channeling effects remain unsatisfactory in low-fluid-pressure and high-yield gas wells. This study examined L-type …

Relationship Between Healthcare Information Systems And Physician Productivity, Thomas Seth Crouch

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Poor physician productivity is a significant problem for healthcare administrators and physicians as it can lead to decreased patient satisfaction, increased wait times, and, ultimately, lower revenue. Grounded in the Delone and McLean information system model, this quantitative correlational study examined the relationship between the perceived quality of EHR systems, the level of system support, and physician productivity. Secondary data (N = 973) from KLAS Arch Collaborative were collected from physicians’ responses. The results of the multiple linear regression were statistically significant, F(2, 869) = 552.8021, p < .001, R2 = .56. The predictor variables perceived quality and system support both contributed the model significantly, with perceived quality providing a higher contribution (ß = .61), than system support (ß = .26). A key recommendation is for technology managers to be proactive in designing and supporting specific EHR requirements needed for enhanced quality and system support for physician preferences. The implications for positive social change include the potential to enhance and increase the efficiency of healthcare delivery to patients, leading to better health outcomes and overall satisfaction with the healthcare experience.
