Transformation From E-Voting To E-Cheque, Yun Xing Kho, Swee Huay Heng, Syh Yuan Tan, Ji Jian Chin
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
Although e-voting scheme and e-cheque scheme are two different applications, they have similarities in the scheme definitions and security properties. This inspires us to establish a relationship between the two schemes by formalising a generic transformation from e-voting to e-cheque scheme. Firstly, we define the scheme definitions and security models for both e-voting scheme and e-cheque scheme. Subsequently, we demonstrate a generic transformation framework from e-voting to e-cheque with asymptotic complexity of O n and design a formal proof to show that a secure e-voting scheme can be transformed into a secure echeque scheme. As a proof of concept, we …

Knowledge, Attitudes And Practices Of Psychiatrists In India Regarding Sudden Unexpected Death In Epilepsy (Sudep) And Seizure-Related Harm, Surobhi Chatterjee, Shivangini Singh, Sujita Kumar Kar, Rohit Shankar
Peninsula Medical School
BackgroundSudden unexpected death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) is one of the leading causes of death in people with epilepsy (PWE). Awareness and taking adequate preventive measures are pivotal to reducing SUDEP. Nearly 80% of PWE live in lower-middle-income countries (LMICs) such as India where for many, epilepsy management is by psychiatrists.AimTo evaluates the knowledge, attitude and practices of Indian psychiatrists on SUDEP and seizure risk.MethodsA cross-sectional online survey of 12 Likert response questions using validated themes, was circulated among Indian Psychiatric Society members. Non-discriminatory exponential snowballing technique leading to convenience non-probability sampling was used. The inquiry involved SUDEP-related topics including the …

Exposure to per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is ubiquitous due to their persistence in the environment and in humans. Extreme weight loss has been shown to influence concentrations of circulating persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Using data from the multi-center perspective Teen-Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery (Teen-LABS) cohort, we investigated changes in plasma-PFAS in adolescents after bariatric surgery. Adolescents (Mean age = 17.1 years, SD = 1.5 years) undergoing bariatric surgery were enrolled in the Teen-LABS study. Plasma-PFAS were measured at the time of surgery and then 6-, 12-, and 36 months post-surgery. Linear mixed effect models were used to evaluate …

Off-the-shelf (OTS) adoptive T cell therapies have many benefits such as immediate availability, improved access and reduced cost, but face the major challenges of graft-vs-host disease (GVHD) and graft rejection, mediated by alloreactive T cells present in the graft and host, respectively. We have developed a platform for OTS T cell therapies by using Epstein-Bar virus (EBV)-specific T cells (EBVSTs) expressing a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) targeting CD30. Allogeneic EBVSTs have not caused GVHD in several clinical trials, while the CD30.CAR, that is effective for the treatment of lymphoma, can also target alloreactive T cells that upregulate CD30 on activation. …

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-redirected immune cells hold significant therapeutic potential for oncology, autoimmune diseases, transplant medicine, and infections. All approved CAR-T therapies rely on personalized manufacturing using undirected viral gene transfer, which results in nonphysiological regulation of CAR-signaling and limits their accessibility due to logistical challenges, high costs and biosafety requirements. Random gene transfer modalities pose a risk of malignant transformation by insertional mutagenesis. Here, we propose a novel approach utilizing CRISPR-Cas gene editing to redirect T cells and natural killer (NK) cells with CARs. By transferring shorter, truncated CAR-transgenes lacking a main activation domain into the human CD3ζ (CD247) …

Reducing growth and limiting metabolism are strategies that allow bacteria to survive exposure to environmental stress and antibiotics. During infection, uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) may enter a quiescent state that enables them to reemerge after the completion of successful antibiotic treatment. Many clinical isolates, including the well-characterized UPEC strain CFT073, also enter a metabolite-dependent, quiescent state in vitro that is reversible with cues, including peptidoglycan-derived peptides and amino acids. Here, we show that quiescent UPEC is antibiotic tolerant and demonstrate that metabolic flux in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle regulates the UPEC quiescent state via succinyl-CoA. We also demonstrate that …

Reliability targeted snow loads (RTLs) measure the weight in accumulated snow (i.e. snow load) that a roof is required to support to ensure the probability of failure is suf- ficiently low. This calculation has historically relied upon a probability distribution that characterizes the ratio between the annual maximum ground snow load to the annual max- imum roof snow load, a quantity referred to as Gr. The best available data for estimating Gr comes from Canadian case studies from the 1950s and 1960s. However, much of the data was never digitized, with only approximations of data being made available in scanned …

Examining Psychosocial Stressors Among African American Women With Postpartum Depression, Audrey Rose Morris
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Psychosocial stressors are among the causative factors of postpartum depression (PPD) in African American women. This study was a qualitative meta-analysis examining the psychosocial stressors that contribute to PPD among African American women. The aim was to identify the psychosocial stressors among African American women with PPD by examining existing literature and identifying common themes. The integrative model (IM) by Fishbein and Yzer assisted in understanding the significance of psychosocial stressors in African American women with PPD. Thematic analysis was used to generate new, more substantive meanings than those taken from individual investigations. Ten research studies were selected and examined …

Motivation Matters: Understanding The Antidepressant Mechanism Of Physical Activity Among Young Adults, Jessica E. H. Ryan, Travis R. Menuz, Megan E. Ames
International Journal of Exercise Science
International Journal of Exercise Science 17(5): 861-873, 2024. A negative association between physical activity and depressive symptoms is consistently reported within scientific literature and physical self-concept has been suggested to mediate this pathway. However, for whom these associations are strongest remains poorly understood, and little is known about how other psychosocial factors might be implicated. Consequently, we examined how various exercise motivations, specifically appearance, physical health, and mental health, might moderate the indirect effect of physical activity on depressive symptoms through physical self-concept. Canadian young adults (N = 496, Mage = 20.36, SD = 1.87) completed an online questionnaire. …

Identifying the infarct-related artery (IRA) in a non-ST-segment-elevation acute myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) can be very challenging, particularly in a hospital that cannot perform intracoronary imaging due to certain limitations. This is because, by angiography, most patients present with multivessel coronary artery disease (CAD), diffuse disease, or non-significant CAD. We present a case of a 60-year-old female patient presented with substernal chest pain and palpitations of 6 hours duration. The first hospital contacts 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) showed ventricular tachycardia (VT) with unstable hemodynamics, after stabilization patient was transported to the catheterization laboratory for immediate percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). With a clue …
