This poster summarizes the initial findings of a three-part research project that took place at two libraries on an academic campus. The project included patron responses to weekly whiteboard questions, an initial screening survey designed to intentionally recruit underserved populations, and two focus groups. Patrons who completed the screening survey and expressed interest in further participation were invited to participate in a focus group of their choosing at either library branch. Through these methods, patrons provided insight into their preferred library spaces and how they use them. Data from this project will be used to inform changes to library spaces …

Rethinking Interpreter Training: The Role Of Microlearning In Boosting Knowledge Retention, Hicham Boughaba

This study examines the effectiveness of microlearning interventions in enhancing knowledge retention and interpreting performance among trainee interpreters. A quasi-experimental design was employed, with interpreting students divided into two groups: an experimental group receiving targeted microlearning modules on specialized terminology and a control group relying on general knowledge only. Their performance was evaluated according to four criteria: accuracy, clarity and fluency, terminology usage, and cultural and contextual understanding. Results indicate that participants who were exposed to microlearning modules achieved significantly higher scores across all evaluation criteria, with notable gains in accuracy and terminology usage. This article analyzes the linguistic modalities constitutive of political populism, with particular attention to its contemporary authoritarian-leaning manifestations. Conceived as a discursive construction or a style of communication (Taguieff, 1997), populist discourse is organized around a charismatic figure who claims a direct relationship with an idealized people, set in opposition to an elite deemed illegitimate and inherently malevolent (Breton, 2009). This paper examines the first year of collaboration between the Bear River Region LGBTQ+ Community Coalition and queer residents in rural northern Utah, United States, using a hybrid participatory design (PD) approach. Using Yep’s queer relationality theory, we examine how hybrid spaces were designed and iteratively adapted to support inclusion, care, and collective agency among LGBTQ+ community members. Drawing on Community Coalition Action Theory and queer PD, we analyze four cases from May 2024 to June 2025 including workshops and regular meetings to explore how relational practices evolved across different formats and phases of coalition development. This phenomenological study explores the lived experiences of Black women community leaders as they navigate a balance between their professional, personal, and community leadership roles. The research design uses the theoretical frameworks of Black Feminist Intersectionality and Role Theory, specifically addressing the cultural burdens imposed by the Strong Black Woman archetype, which adds additional role strain. The study began with a questionnaire completed by 54 Black women community leaders, followed by 20 in-depth, semi-structured interviews selected from this pool. Commercial capture fisheries worldwide are susceptible to perturbations and sudden declines, also known as shocks. While management reforms and diversification within wild fisheries have provided some stability, it is less clear how parallel sources of seafood production, such as aquaculture, fit into these dynamics, past and present. Marine aquaculture (mariculture) is one way to increase seafood supply as demand increases and fisheries landings potentially become more variable. The increasing demand for homelessness services in Australia highlights the need for robust evaluation methodologies to assess their social impact. Traditional economic evaluation methods often struggle to capture the intangible social and health outcomes associated with homelessness. Social return on investment (SROI), an outcomes-based framework driven by stakeholders, offers a flexible and comprehensive approach to measuring social, economic and environmental impacts. This scoping review examines the application of SROI in evaluating services that support the health of people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Australia. Importance Hospital-based ophthalmology faces increasing demand for long-term monitoring of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). Safe redistribution of routine monitoring to community clinicians is relevant to integrated community (primary)–secondary care models.   Objective To examine whether community optometrist–led monitoring of nAMD is noninferior to hospital-based monitoring for detecting disease activity requiring treatment.   Design, Setting, and Participants This multicenter, noninferiority randomized clinical trial was conducted from October 8, 2019, to January 31, 2024, at secondary centers (17 hospitals) and primary centers (60 community optometry practices) with 12-month follow-up. When Standard Therapy Fails: Refractory Thyroid Storm With Af-Rvr And Cardiomyopathy Requiring Prolonged Plasma Exchange, Nathan Fletcher, Noor Alkhawam, Allison Isabelli, Mehul Shah, Ruchita Patel, Angela Pauline Calimag

Background: Thyroid storm can precipitate atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response and acute cardiomyopathy. While standard medical therapy is effective in most cases, therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is infrequently utilized and typically reserved for patients with refractory disease. In severe thyrotoxicosis, concurrent physiologic stressors such as infection or stimulant exposure may exacerbate the hyperadrenergic state and limit responsiveness to conventional therapy. Case Presentation: A 47-year-old man with recently diagnosed atrial fibrillation presented to the emergency department with dyspnea and anasarca. He was febrile to 104.5°F, tachycardic to 190 beats/min, and required high-flow nasal cannula. Thyroid testing showed TSH < 0.008 mcIU/mL (0.35–5.00), free T4 5.0 ng/dL (0.8–1.5), and free T3 14.0 pg/mL (2.2–4.0), with elevated thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin and thyrotropin receptor antibody, consistent with Graves disease. Urine toxicology was positive for methamphetamines and cannabinoids, and respiratory pathogen testing detected influenza A (H3). The Burch-Wartofsky score was 80–85, consistent with thyroid storm. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed new biventricular systolic dysfunction with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of 30–35%. Endocrinology initiated methimazole at 10 mg twice daily due to mild baseline transaminitis ( < 2 × upper limit of normal) and cautiously dosed propranolol given reduced LVEF, along with Lugol’s iodine, intravenous stress-dose hydrocortisone, and cholestyramine. Despite these constraints, antithyroid and beta-blocker therapy were systematically escalated as hepatic function and hemodynamics permitted, reaching methimazole 30 mg twice daily and propranolol 40 mg three times daily by hospital day 3. Despite stepwise escalation of methimazole, propranolol, and cholestyramine to 4 g four times daily, thyroid indices worsened, with free T3 rising from 4.9 to 10.8 pg/mL and free T4 from 4.0 to 4.6 ng/dL. Given progressive biochemical thyrotoxicosis despite maximally tolerated medical therapy, TPE was initiated on hospital day three. After seven exchange sessions achieved sustained thyroid hormone control, the patient was stabilized and underwent thyroidectomy. He was transitioned to levothyroxine and cardiac function recovered with improvement of LVEF to 56% during hospitalization. Clinical Lessons: Thyroid storm may remain refractory despite guideline-directed medical therapy, particularly during concurrent infection and stimulant exposure that can amplify adrenergic stress. In cases of objective thyrotoxicosis progression despite appropriate escalation of antithyroid therapy, timely consideration of therapeutic plasma exchange may facilitate stabilization and enable definitive treatment.

Clergy's understanding of intimate partner violence underpins the support they provide to Christian women affected. However, the understanding of intimate partner violence by Cameroonian and Nigerian clergy living in England is unknown. This article explores their understanding of intimate partner violence through remote semi-structured interviews. The results showed that clergy understood that the intersection of individual, Christian and cultural beliefs around marriage and acculturation factors causes intimate partner violence. They acknowledged a lack of adequate knowledge of intimate partner violence. Developing training programmes on intimate partner violence for clergy and their congregations will enhance awareness and support for affected women.

Partial shading in photovoltaic (PV) systems creates multiple Local Maximum Power Points (LMPPs) on the power-voltage (P-V) curve, causing conventional Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms to converge prematurely to suboptimal operating points and resulting in significant energy losses. This work proposes a novel vision-based framework that integrates computer vision with Global Maximum Power Point Tracking (GMPPT) to maximize energy harvesting in partially shaded PV systems. This study presents a sequential thermochemical catalytic process for converting CO₂ into carbon nanotubes (CNTs), achieving nearly 99% overall CO₂ conversion and solid carbon yields of up to 49% in a single pass. The overall transformation is divided into two thermodynamically favorable steps: (1) low-temperature CO₂ methanation to CH₄ over a sol-gel-prepared Ni87Ce_6.5Zr_6.5-SG catalyst, which achieved >95% CO₂ conversion at 250 °C in a single pass, and (2) subsequent methane pyrolysis to CNTs and H₂ over a Ni@Al₂O₃-IE core-shell catalyst, which showed improved stability and carbon …
