Post-Covid-19: The Effect Of Social Anxiety On The Continued Wearing Of Face Masks In Saudi Arabia, بسمة بيانوني

Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Educational and Psychological Sciences

King Abdulaziz University’S Female Faculty’S Perspectives Regarding The Effectiveness Of Using Blackboard On Teaching And Learning, داليه الغامدي

Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Educational and Psychological Sciences

Currently, increasing educational facilities, especially higher ones, implement e-learning to support or substitute traditional learning. Simultaneously, there exist multiple barriers and limitations for its successful application that should be assessed to ensure the development of e-learning that facilitates communication, considers learners’ differences, provides access to abundant information, and helps educators deliver materials. Thus, this qualitative research examined the university female faculty’s perspectives regarding the effectiveness of using Blackboard on teaching and learning. Using the narrative approach, it collected data through semi-structured interviews efficient for small-scale research. The participants were 12 female members of the Faculty of the College of Education …

Axiomatic Characterization Of Generalized Neo-Eu Preferences And The Falsifiability Of Ambiguity Theories, Manuel Nunez, Mark Schneider Sep 2024

Axiomatic Characterization Of Generalized Neo-Eu Preferences And The Falsifiability Of Ambiguity Theories, Manuel Nunez, Mark Schneider

ESI Working Papers

We introduce a new weakening of the independence axiom, co-extreme independence, which we show characterizes a class that encompasses popular ambiguity models including Hurwicz preferences, ϵ-contamination preferences, and NEOEU preferences. Importantly, our representation unifies these as forms of simple ambiguity models as we show that the Vapnik-Chervonenkis (VC) dimension of these models is either unity or increases linearly with the number of states. In contrast, standard ambiguity models characterized in the Anscombe-Aumann framework are complex ambiguity models that have a VC dimension that is either infinite or increases exponentially in the number of states. We show that simple ambiguity preferences …

An Introduction To Infophilia, A Positive Psychology Of Information, Anita S. Coleman

Library Research Seminar 8: Telling Library Stories

This paper will tell some of the stories of infophilia, a positive psychology of information, avant-garde research. The goal of Brenda Dervin’s ground-breaking research was not just to develop the sense-making theory, framework, and tools, but also to “invent communication alternatives and assess their utility.” One of the ‘practice communication inventions’ of Brenda Dervin was the ‘Good news newsletter’ where she developed infosheets for doctors, schools, and medical clinics (Neill, 1992, p. 6). I am no Brenda Dervin. But I am a strongly interdisciplinary scholar who has been a tenured librarian, LIS school faculty, library director, publisher for the voiceless, …

Fostering Trust Through User Interface Design In Multi-Drone Search And Rescue, Johanna Ahlskog, Maria Theresa Bahodi, Artur Lugmayr, Timothy Merritt Sep 2024

Fostering Trust Through User Interface Design In Multi-Drone Search And Rescue, Johanna Ahlskog, Maria Theresa Bahodi, Artur Lugmayr, Timothy Merritt

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), or drones, are increasingly used in search and rescue (SAR) missions, with pilots transitioning from manual control of single drones to more collaborative tasks orchestrating semi-autonomous fleets. Designing user interfaces to support UAV pilots effectively is crucial to improving the success of search missions. We developed two versions of a multi-drone SAR system prototype to simulate SAR missions and evaluated them with professional UAV SAR pilots in Sweden. Both versions showed the flight paths of the UAVs, yet in one version, a heatmap was overlayed to provide information from a lost person model. We evaluated situational …
