Effects Of Neuroticism–Anxiety And Sociability Personality Traits On The Relationship Between Testosterone And Risk Propensity In Finance, Urša Ferjančič, Fajko Bajrović, Aljoša Valentinčič

Economic and Business Review

Risky financial decisions, defined as rational calculations between expected risk and reward, are subject to various psychological and neurobiological mechanisms. In this context, the relationship between testosterone levels and risk propensity has been investigated, but the results are inconsistent. Here, the effects of some personality traits, neuroticism–anxiety and sociability, on the relationship between testosterone levels and risk propensity were examined in decisions under risk (GDT) and under uncertainty (BART). In a mixed-sex sample of 100 graduate students and experienced decision makers, we found that basal testosterone levels were positively correlated with risk propensity for decisions under risk in males with …

Mapping Characteristics And Financial Importance Of Development Banks Across The World, Jan Porenta, Vasja Rant Sep 2024

Mapping Characteristics And Financial Importance Of Development Banks Across The World, Jan Porenta, Vasja Rant

Economic and Business Review

This paper investigates the financial importance of development banks across regions and income groups. We construct a global banking dataset for the period 1995 to 2021 and analyse the distribution of development banking assets across macro regions and country income groups. We create a composite global and national Development Bank Financial Importance index (DBFI index) that enables us to rank the most financially important development banks across the globe. Development banks play significant and diverse roles in the global financial system, but their financial importance varies across regions and income groups. The paper offers a broad analysis of the global …

A Classification Methodology For Assessing Countries In Terms Of Tourism Competitiveness, Yiannis Smirlis, Marilou Ioakimidis

Economic and Business Review

Tourism industry is important for national economies, and, in this regard, it is vital to monitor its competitiveness. The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI), developed and reported by the World Economic Forum, serves this purpose by providing a consistent framework, explanatory factors, and corresponding data sets. In this paper we exploit the past data sets of this index, first, to verify that in several countries, competitiveness in tourism and travel industries hardly changes over time. Next, we identify countries that show consistency in travel–tourism competitiveness and separate them into classes of best, worst, intermediate, and ambiguous past performance. Building …

INTRODUCTION: Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and inflammatory biomarkers are crucial for investigating preclinical neurocognitive disorders. Current investigations focus on a few inflammatory markers. The study aims to investigate the associations between inflammatory biomarkers and MRI measures and to examine sex differences among the associations in the Framingham Heart Study. METHODS: Dementia and stroke-free participants underwent OLINK Proteomics profiling and MRI measurements within 5 years. Pairwise cross-sectional analysis assessed 68 biomarkers with 13 brain MRI volumes, adjusting for covariates and familial correlations. RESULTS: Elevated CDCP1, IL6, OPG, and 4E.BP1 were related to smaller total cerebral brain volume (TCBV), whereas higher …

Extending Behavioral Theory Of The Firm To New Ventures: Dispositional Optimism As A Moderating Influence On New Product Introductions In High Tech Ventures, R. Isil Yavuz, Dev K. Dutta, Mehmet A. Soytas Sep 2024

Extending Behavioral Theory Of The Firm To New Ventures: Dispositional Optimism As A Moderating Influence On New Product Introductions In High Tech Ventures, R. Isil Yavuz, Dev K. Dutta, Mehmet A. Soytas

Management Department Faculty Journal Articles

Extant literature has typically drawn from the behavioral theory of the firm (BTOF) to examine new product introductions in the context of well-established companies. This paper extends the behavioral theory of the firm to entrepreneurial firms and argues that jointly considering founders' dispositional optimism together with the performance feedback promises to yield a better understanding of new product introductions in new ventures. We analyze a longitudinal dataset on the activities of 344 newly founded high technology ventures in the United States. The key insight of our study is that when BTOF is applied to the context of nascent, entrepreneurial ventures, …

Cyber Victimization In The Healthcare Industry: Analyzing Offender Motivations And Target Characteristics Through Routine Activities Theory (Rat) And Cyber-Routine Activities Theory (Cyber-Rat), Yashna Praveen, Mijin Kim, Kyung-Shick Choi

International Journal of Cybersecurity Intelligence & Cybercrime

The integration of computer technology in healthcare has revolutionized patient care but has also introduced significant cyber risks. Despite the healthcare sector being a primary target for cyber-attacks, research on the dynamics of these threats and practical solutions remains limited. Understanding the complexities of cyberattacks in this sector is critical, as the impact extends beyond financial losses to directly affect patient care and the protection of sensitive information. This paper applies Routine Activities Theory (RAT) and Cyber Routine Activities Theory (C-RAT) to analyze high-tech cyber victimization case studies in healthcare. The analysis explores the motivations behind these attacks and identifies …

The Impact Of Health And Environmental Messaging With And Without Product Filtering In Complex Retail Markets: The Case Of Pulses, Christopher R. Gustafson, Henriette Gitungwa, Sushil C. Sapkota, Devin J. Rose Sep 2024

The Impact Of Health And Environmental Messaging With And Without Product Filtering In Complex Retail Markets: The Case Of Pulses, Christopher R. Gustafson, Henriette Gitungwa, Sushil C. Sapkota, Devin J. Rose

Department of Agricultural Economics: Faculty Publications

Introduction: Multiple barriers exist to healthy and environmentally sustainable food choices. Limited consumer understanding of the health and environmental implications of food choices complicates their abilities to make choices that lead to desired outcomes. The complexity of the retail environment itself may crowd out less immediate motivations to address health or environment. Even if consumers understand general impacts of food choices on health and environmental outcomes, there may be non-negligible time and search costs to identifying the products that meet consumers’ needs. In many food categories, the foods containing attributes that help achieve health and sustainability outcomes may represent …

Bargaining With God, Anna Bennett

The Main Thing Devotional

“Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” Luke 18:24-25, NIV.

Gnsi Decision Brief: Free Venezuela! The Opportunity For A Return To Democracy, Robert S. Burrell, Homer Harkins Sep 2024

Gnsi Decision Brief: Free Venezuela! The Opportunity For A Return To Democracy, Robert S. Burrell, Homer Harkins

GNSI Decision Briefs

Nicolás Maduro remains a weak and unpopular dictator, only retaining power in Venezuela through internal violent repression, nefarious international support, and paramilitary assistance from violent transnational criminal organizations. Limited, targeted sanctions designed to discourage political repression and criminal cooperation remain ineffective as they have been evaded and ignored. The Venezuelan regime has effectively countered multinational diplomatic efforts by using approximately $28 billion in regional economic support to undermine the will of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United Nations push for a return to democracy in Venezuela.i A full-spectrum national resistance campaign including, if necessary, the use of …
