Chaotic-Encode Quantum Pso Algorithm For Flexible Job-Shop Scheduling Problem, Yuanxing Xu, Mengjian Zhang, Deguang Wang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: To solve the flexible job-shop scheduling problem (FJSP), a chaotic-encode quantum PSO (CQPSO) algorithm is proposed. Aiming at the premature convergence of particles to local optimum in standard QPSO, the methods for computing the adaptive contraction-expansion coefficient and mean best position using fitness values of associated particles are proposed to improve the global search ability of QPSO. Through chaotic boundary variation strategy, the probability of a large number of particles gathering at the boundary is reduced and the population diversity is increased to enhance the ability of searching the optimal solution. According to the iterative property of QPSO, a …

Multi-Strategy Partheno-Genetic Algorithm Based On Dynamic Reduction Mechanism For Solving Cvrp Problem, Jiajun Chen, Dailun Tan
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Aiming at the problems of premature, slow convergence and low accuracy of traditional genetic algorithm in solving capacitated vehicle routing problem,a multi-strategy partheno-genetic algorithm based on dynamic reduction mechanism is proposed. The algorithm divides the optimization space based on similar individuals, and uses simulated annealing criterion to eliminate or update the lowest category subspace, which constitutes the reduction and movement mechanism of the optimization space. Based on parthenogenetic algorithm,a variety of genetic evolution strategies including intra-group, inter-group, global search, disturbance and jump strategy are designed Based on the three penalty factors of individual development, population evolution and overall convergence, …

Unmanned Vehicle Path Planning And Tracking Control Based On Improved Artificial Potential Field Method, Minghao Guo, Peng Ji, Haiwei Huang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: A path planning algorithm based on improved artificial potential field method and a tracking control strategy based on model predictive controller are proposed for the unmanned vehicle avoiding dynamic obstacles in the complex scene of lane changing and overtaking. The theory of safety ellipse and the concept of prediction distance are introduced to adjust the influence region of potential field. By adding velocity potential field to change potential field function, the problem of vehicle avoiding dynamic obstacles is solved. Based on the linear three-degree-of-freedom vehicle dynamics model, a model prediction controller including potential field environment is established. The effectiveness …
The Catholic Imaginations Of J.R.R. Tolkien And Oscar Wilde, Frazier A. Johnson
The Catholic Imaginations Of J.R.R. Tolkien And Oscar Wilde, Frazier A. Johnson
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
This paper uses terminology from The Catholic Imagination by Andrew Greeley to explore the influence of Catholicism on the writings of Oscar Wilde and J.R.R. Tolkien. Greeley asserts that Catholics see metaphors for the transcendent in matter, value community within a well-ordered hierarchy, and sanctify suffering—qualities that abound in the writings of Wilde and Tolkien. I begin with short biographical sketches of both authors, paying special attention to Wilde’s and Tolkien’s varied involvement with orthodox Catholicism. I then move into a discussion about both authors’ aesthetic philosophies and the similar value they see in art. Next, I detail the authors’ …

Tolkien The Playwright: Manuscript Revisions And Faërian Dramas In "The Homecoming Of Beorhtnoth", Anna Smol
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Tolkien is not usually considered a playwright, even though his verse drama, “The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth Beorhthelm’s Son,” is a unique example of the genre. It is Tolkien’s only published play and historical fiction, as well as a unique poetic - dramatic genre, a modern alliterative verse play, which Tolkien developed over many years in numerous drafts, now held at the Bodleian Library in Oxford and the Brotherton Library in Leeds. These manuscript drafts allow us to trace Tolkien’s stage directions, which reveal that he imagined this to be a play for presentation on stage. This essay examines Tolkien’s statements …
Elmar, Aerin, And Aredhel: Female Enslavement In Tolkien’S Legendarium, Clare Moore
Elmar, Aerin, And Aredhel: Female Enslavement In Tolkien’S Legendarium, Clare Moore
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Argues that Elmar, Aerin, and Aredhel’s narratives convey experiences of female enslavement. Understanding these characters as enslaved reveals the violent nature of their experiences, necessitating an interpretation of their relationships with their husbands/enslavers as sexual assault. Their narratives reveal patterns within the legendarium connecting beauty and violence. However, these three stories also demonstrate Tolkien’s interest in portraying this kind of story and its value to the legendarium. These narratives offer a unique female perspective on loss and lived experience within the legendarium.
The Wizard Of Mecosta: Russell Kirk, Gothic Fiction, And The Moral Imagination, By Camilo Peralta, G. Connor Salter
The Wizard Of Mecosta: Russell Kirk, Gothic Fiction, And The Moral Imagination, By Camilo Peralta, G. Connor Salter
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Camilo Peralta’s The Wizard of Mecosta gives the first detailed look at Russell Kirk’s fiction, from his ghost stories to his three gothic novels. While the work particularly emphasizes Kirk’s gothic influences, Peralta also explores references to T.S. Eliot and Charles Williams in his fiction, as well as comments in his nonfiction about Lewis and Williams writing “tales of the preternatural.” The discussion provides important material for seeing Kirk as an Inklings-influenced author.

A Method For Battlefield Situation Information Ontology Construction Based On Top-Down And Bottom-Up Integration, Cong Zhou, Sihang Zhou, Jian Huang, Dong Wang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The construction of the unified expression model of battlefield situational information is challenging due to the complexity of data sources and the significant differences in data structures and expression methods. Ontologies, as semantic conceptual models, are often used to describe concepts, relationships, and attributes within knowledge domains. An ontology construction method for the battlefield situational information domain based on a top-down and bottom-top integration is proposed. The top-down method is used to construct the upper ontology, in which a conceptual hierarchy model with a clear top-down structure is designed to establish the hierarchical relationships and semantic associations. A bottom-up …

Antibiofilm Activity Of Pdms/Tio2 Against Candida Glabrata Through Inhibited Hydrophobic Recovery, Khoi Nguyen Nguyen, Leena Sao, Kevin Kyllo, Danitza Hernandez, Samantha Salomon, Kalp Shah, Dahyun Oh, Katy C. Kao
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Coatings with antibiofilm properties are desirable for biomedical applications. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) has been explored as an antimicrobial agent in materials development primarily due to it being an excellent photocatalyst. Candida glabrata (C. glabrata) is an emerging human fungal pathogen with known high resistance to oxidative stress. Here, we fabricated a polydimethylsiloxane/titanium dioxide (PDMS/TiO2) nanocomposite coating and tested its antibiofilm activities against C. glabrata. The resulting nanocomposite exhibited >50% reduction in C. glabrata biofilm formation with 2.5 wt % TiO2 loading, even in the dark. Through ROS detection and surface characterization, the antibiofilm activity was attributed to the synergistic interaction …

Yes, this is the biggest issue of Mythlore since the 458-page Centenary Conference joint issue with the Tolkien Society in 1996. It’s still true that anything over 300 pages triggers a bump in the postage to mail the issue, but the income from our electronic subscriptions can subsidize an occasional issue over this limit—like this one—without an increase to print subscription prices.

Background:
Preventable medical errors and adverse events in US hospitals are far too common and contribute to an estimated $17 billion annually in healthcare expenditures. Falls comprise the majority of these preventable adverse events and are a significant cause of increased healthcare costs, prolonged hospital stays, and patient morbidity and mortality. The average cost per hospital fall is estimated at $62,521 ($35,365 direct costs). Despite numerous preventative measures, the complexity of managing multiple interventions can lead to inconsistent application. Inspired by the success of surgical "time-out" checklists in operating rooms, we hypothesized that a standardized checklist for fall prevention could …

Background/aimGriscelli Syndrome Type 2 (GS-2) is a rare, inherited immune deficiency caused by a mutation in the RAB27A gene. Current treatment consists of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Lack of suitable donors warrants the development of alternative treatment strategies, including gene therapy. The development of mutation-specific CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology has opened the way for custom designed gene correction of patient-derived stem cells. Here, we aimed to custom design CRISPR/Cas9 constructs and test their efficiency of homology directed repair (HDR) on the correction of exon 3 and exon 7 mutations in the RAB27A gene of GS-2 patient-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) …
