BACKGROUND: The atherogenic effect of remnant cholesterol is being increasingly acknowledged. This study aimed to explore the association of discordance between remnant cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol with stroke onset using 2 Chinese national cohorts. METHODS AND RESULTS: We studied 11 139 participants from CHARLS (China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study) and 5993 participants from CHNS (China Health and Nutrition Survey) aged 45 years or older. The discordance between remnant cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol was defined using the difference in percentile units (>15 units). There were 988 (8.9%) and 128 (2.1%) stroke events reported during follow-up in the …
Wormhole Attack Mitigation In Wireless Network Using Propagation Delay, Harry May, Travis Atkison
Wormhole Attack Mitigation In Wireless Network Using Propagation Delay, Harry May, Travis Atkison
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
This paper presents a novel approach for mitigating wormhole attacks on wireless networks using propagation delay timing. The wormhole attack is a persistent security threat that threatens the integrity of network communications, potentially leading to data theft or other malicious activities. While various methods exist for combating wormhole attacks, our approach offers advantages that set it apart. Our approach involves a combination of proactive and reactive measures, harnessing box plot analysis and weighting factor techniques to identify and isolate outlier node links effectively. Unlike traditional methods, our solution not only detects outlier links but also defines dynamic weighting factors, providing …

Nonlinear Model Predictive Control Of Heaving Wave Energy Converter With Nonlinear Froude–Krylov Forces, Tania Demonte Gonzalez, Enrico Anderlini, Houssein Yassin, Gordon Parker
Michigan Tech Publications
Wave energy holds significant promise as a renewable energy source due to the consistent and predictable nature of ocean waves. However, optimizing wave energy devices is essential for achieving competitive viability in the energy market. This paper presents the application of a nonlinear model predictive controller (MPC) to enhance the energy extraction of a heaving point absorber. The wave energy converter (WEC) model accounts for the nonlinear dynamics and static Froude–Krylov forces, which are essential in accurately representing the system’s behavior. The nonlinear MPC is tested under irregular wave conditions within the power production region, where constraints on displacement and …

Finite Sum Of Integral Operators From The Fractional Cauchy Spaces To Bloch-Type And Zygmund-Type Spaces, Rita A. Hibschweiler, Ajay K. Sharma
Faculty Publications
The family of fractional Cauchy transforms, defined on the open unit disc in the complex plane, is of classical and modern interest. Membership of an analytic function in the family is determined by the requirement that the function can be expressed as an integral of a certain kernel against a complex Borel measure on the disc. Such an integral representation imposes a growth condition on the function and its derivatives. This exposes a connection between the families of Cauchy transforms and familiar spaces of analytic functions, such as the Bloch spaces and the Zygmund space. The notion of a composition …

Apache Stronghold v. United States
On Petition for Writ of Certiorari to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
From the Introduction and Summary of Argument
The federal government owns the land at Oak Flat, where Apache people have worshiped and conducted ceremonies for centuries. As the district court’s findings show, “Apaches view Oak Flat as a ‘direct corridor’ to their Creator’s spirit”—a place “‘uniquely endowed with holiness and medicine’”—“and neither ‘the powers resident there, nor [the Apaches’] religious activities . . . can be relocated.’” App. 201a (opinion of Murguia, C.J.) Nebraska Department of Transportation: Research Reports
This study examined the effectiveness of laboratory short-term aging processes for warm mix asphalt (WMA) binders using response surface methodology (RSM) with various combinations of aging parameters: time, temperature, airflow, and binder weight. The research aimed to enhance understanding of aging parameter efficacy and propose a modified laboratory short-term aging protocol that accurately simulates plant short-term aging in WMA binders. Additionally, the study explored the potential of thermal simulation techniques to model the heat transfer within asphalt mixtures during the compaction procedure. To achieve these goals, three WMA mixtures produced at 135 ºC were collected from plants, and their asphalt …

A series of bismuth doped lithium strontium borate glasses are synthetized using melt-quench technique. Compositional modification resulted in the maximum refractive index (2.306) and lowest optical bandgap (3.36 eV) for 2 mol% of Bi2O3. Raman as well as FTIR investigations reveal the presence of diborate, dipentaborate and metaborate ring type structural units and structural interconversions occur between diborate and metaborate rings. These structural interconversions are in support of the trends observed in linear and non-linear optical properties. Photoluminescence spectra reveal a prominent emission peak around 572 nm corresponding to the 2P3/2 → 2P1/2 transition. Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage …

Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Yes, this is the biggest issue of Mythlore since the 458-page Centenary Conference joint issue with the Tolkien Society in 1996. It’s still true that anything over 300 pages triggers a bump in the postage to mail the issue, but the income from our electronic subscriptions can subsidize an occasional issue over this limit—like this one—without an increase to print subscription prices.

Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
C.S. Lewis is little-known for his Shakespeare scholarship except perhaps for his lecture “Hamlet: The Prince or the Poem” for the British Academy (1942). This essay begins by discussing Lewis’s approach to the play and his desire to reenchant his audience with the play he had loved as a child, before character-criticism got in the way. It then explores how Lewis takes the Prince and the aspects he found most affective in Hamlet out of the play and explores them, imaginatively, in another world: recasting them “for children” in Narnia. The essay considers Hamlet in The Silver Chair in …
