Participants will be randomly assigned either to a control condition to write about neutral topics or to one of two intervention conditions, self-regulation or self-cultivation, …

A Narrative Study Of Intersectionality And The Lived Experiences Of Black Woman Superintendents, Nadia Bennett Sep 2024

A Narrative Study Of Intersectionality And The Lived Experiences Of Black Woman Superintendents, Nadia Bennett

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

According to The American Superintendent 2020 Decennial Study, only 1.4% of respondents who hold the superintendent position identify as Black women (Tienken & Domenech, 2021). This percentage has remained under 2.2% for 20 years, though the percentage of white women and non-Black women of color has increased. Current research indicates that Black women have historically been exploited and undervalued at work, with exploitation extending as far back as American slavery, and being undervalued stemming from manufactured stereotypes of Black women for the purpose of sustaining white supremacy. Present-day research indicates that Black woman superintendents perceive their path and role as …

These programs may be particularly beneficial for children with medical complexity (CMC) by limiting their exposure to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) from non-RSV-related pathogens during transportation and visits to medical facilities.

Methods: In this prospective study, 41 children with CMC less than 2 years of age were randomized by their health insurance to receive PH or in the clinic (PC) during the RSV season (October 2018-April 2019). Patients were stratified by home ventilation. The primary outcome was the total number of face-to-face encounters. Secondary outcomes were unscheduled clinic …

胡適在台灣 : 殖民地、黨國體制、民主化時代的閱讀史, Yi Zeng Sep 2024

胡適在台灣 : 殖民地、黨國體制、民主化時代的閱讀史, Yi Zeng

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

An Exploration Of The Influence Of Nursing Education Culture On The Integration Of Nursing Informatics Competencies Into A Collaborative Nursing Program Curriculum, Stephanie Atthill Sep 2024

An Exploration Of The Influence Of Nursing Education Culture On The Integration Of Nursing Informatics Competencies Into A Collaborative Nursing Program Curriculum, Stephanie Atthill

Dissertations

Information communication technologies are becoming a customary part of the way in which nurses provide care. Consequently, it makes good sense to ensure that nursing informatics competencies are integrated into nursing curricula to prepare graduates for practice. However, few schools of nursing within Canada have fully integrated nursing informatics competencies into their curricula. Nursing education culture appears to influence decision-making, and the development of organizational priorities. Nonetheless, there are no known studies examining how nursing education culture impacts nursing informatics curriculum development endeavours. Therefore, this study aimed to address the following research questions: 1) In what ways does a nursing …

Assessment Design And Practices Toward Holistic Learning Of Higher Education Students: Empirical Evidence Via Path Analysis Modelling Approach, Ebenezer Arifa-Yamoah, Esther Adama, Amanda Graf, Kwadwo Adusei-Asante

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

COVID-19 has revolutionised assessment design and practices in higher education; however, there has not been a shift in the overall objective of enhancing that the association between assessments and learning promotes the holistic development of students. In this study, we provide an empirical evaluation of the perceived effects of assessment practices (invigilated examination and alternative assessments) on students’ mental wellbeing, learning processes and academic misconduct. A cross-sectional study design was employed for this study in which a self-reported survey instrument was administered to 380 social science and nursing undergraduate and postgraduate students in a public university in Australia. We explored …

Digital Representations Of Slavery In Australia: Navigating Heritage, Identity And Power, Paul Longley Arthur, Isabel Smith Sep 2024

Digital Representations Of Slavery In Australia: Navigating Heritage, Identity And Power, Paul Longley Arthur, Isabel Smith

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

The digitisation of exhibitions and collections has dramatically expanded access to and forms of cultural heritage, while also raising many questions around the power relations that underlie the production of this heritage. Whose heritage is being digitised, by whom, and for whom is it being recorded and represented? Such questions are especially pronounced in digital museum spaces facing issues of race and empire. Exhibitions on slavery in particular, which have proliferated across the globe since a 'slavery memory' boom in the late twentieth century and intersected with the digitisation of museums, underscore the tensions between contemporary politics, new forms of …

Post-Movement Beta Synchrony Inhibits Cortical Excitability, Edward Rhodes, William Gaetz, Jonathan Marsden, Stephen D. Hall Sep 2024

Post-Movement Beta Synchrony Inhibits Cortical Excitability, Edward Rhodes, William Gaetz, Jonathan Marsden, Stephen D. Hall

School of Health Professions

Background/Objectives: This study investigates the relationship between movement-related beta synchrony and primary motor cortex (M1) excitability, focusing on the time-dependent inhibition of movement. Voluntary movement induces beta frequency (13–30 Hz) event-related desynchronisation (B-ERD) in M1, followed by post-movement beta rebound (PMBR). Although PMBR is linked to cortical inhibition, its temporal relationship with motor cortical excitability is unclear. This study aims to determine whether PMBR acts as a marker for post-movement inhibition by assessing motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) during distinct phases of the beta synchrony profile. Methods: Twenty-five right-handed participants (mean age: 24 years) were recruited. EMG data were recorded from the …

"They Just Looked At Me Like I Didn't Matter"- The Experiences Of Assaulted Lgbtq+ Women With The Police, Katherine Poehlmann

LLM Theses

Research reveals that LGBTQ+ women are subjected to high rates of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). It is widely known that most victim-survivors of SGBV do not report it to the police and when they do, they usually have negative experiences, often due to the influence of myths and stereotypes on police officers’ attitudes and conduct. LGBTQ+ communities are known to be subjected to a multitude of myths and stereotypes that perpetuate violence against them, particularly in the case of highly marginalized subgroups (e.g., trans women, bisexual women). Little attention has been paid, particularly in the Canadian context, to the …

The Effect Of A Self-Guided Simulation Tool On Anxiety Related To Clincal Practice Among Baccalaureate Nursing Students During Their First Clinical Rotation, Karen M. Vargas Sep 2024

The Effect Of A Self-Guided Simulation Tool On Anxiety Related To Clincal Practice Among Baccalaureate Nursing Students During Their First Clinical Rotation, Karen M. Vargas

Dissertations

Research has demonstrated that anxiety can have a detrimental effect on learning and performance. Of great concern is the impact of anxiety on nursing students. By extension, additional research has shown that nursing students experience extremely high levels of anxiety, higher than many students in other programs. Specifically, nursing students have moderate to severe levels of anxiety due to many aspects of the educational program, but particularly when beginning clinical practice. Anxiety when beginning clinical practice among nursing students can cause negative outcomes in learning and performance. That is, when nursing students experience severe anxiety, they may experience the inability …

Policies And Programs For Water-Wise Residential Landscaping In Utah, Charlotte Clark, Kendall Becker, Scott Hotaling

All Current Publications

Water-wise landscaping is the practice of using plants in a landscape that are adapted to local conditions and only need small amounts of water. Converting yards to water-wise landscaping conserves water and is a climate adaptation action residents can take to benefit Utah as temperatures rise and drought becomes more common. Many policies and programs in Utah help residents use water conscientiously and make changes. This fact sheet provides information regarding current and future water-wise landscaping policies and programs in Utah.

Atmospheric Geographies Of (Counter)Terrorism, Sara Fregonese, Paul Simpson, Damien Masson, Simon Runkel, Carrie Benjamin, Sam Berlin, Katha Ciax, Angeliki Drongiti

School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences

How are terror threats and counterterrorism measures experienced in everyday urban spaces? We argue that thinking atmospherically about the spaces of urban encounters with (counter)terrorism is important, firstly, to identify and question feelings and dispositions shaped by discourses, practices, and infrastructures of (counter)terrorism; secondly, to contribute spatial perspectives of felt experience to literatures on security and (counter)terrorism in geography and beyond; thirdly, to connect official understandings of (counter)terrorism with its everyday felt experiences and materialities. We highlight two conceptual and empirical arenas - the crowd and the question of difference - where atmospheric approaches to urban (counter)terrorism can be developed.

Unless We Confront Antimicrobial Resistance Now, We Risk The Consequences Of A Post-Antibiotic Society, Lovleen Tina Joshi

Peninsula Dental School

The UK government’s five year antimicrobial resistance national action plan will need to tackle the lack of progress and a rapidly declining workforceAntimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most pressing challenges of our time. Resistance to commonly used antimicrobial medicines is already disrupting medicine and adversely affecting patient treatment.1 Efforts have been made internationally to reduce overuse of antimicrobials and to preserve them for future generations, but there is still much to be done. The UK will be at the forefront of these efforts nationally and internationally with its national action plan (NAP)2 that sets out five years of …

Longitudinal studies using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) focused on adolescent internalizing psychopathology are scarce and have mostly investigated standardized treatment effects on functional connectivity (FC) of the full amygdala. The role of amygdala subregions and large resting-state networks had yet to be elucidated, and treatment is in practice often personalized. Here, longitudinal FC development of amygdala subregions and whole-brain networks are investigated in a clinically representative sample. Treatment-naïve adolescents with clinical depression and comorbid anxiety who started care-as-usual (n = 23; INT) and healthy controls (n = 24; HC) participated in rs-fMRI scans and questionnaires at baseline (before …

Far-Right Monologues And Extreme Identity, Benjamin Alexander Thigpen Sep 2024

Far-Right Monologues And Extreme Identity, Benjamin Alexander Thigpen

Dissertations and Theses

My thesis is focused on the American far-right, by way of two sperate case studies, one centered on a contemporary movement (the manosphere) and one that has fallen from prominence (racist skinheads). Grounded in primary source analysis, my thesis builds off of the work of social movement theorists such as Sidney Tarrow, scholars of American politics like Richard Hofstadter, and emergent theories of social identity as laid out by Judith Butler and others. Through my analysis, I develop two theoretical arguments: first, that there are two distinct categories amongst far-right narratives (which I term offensive and defensive); and second, that …
