A Scoping Review: Multimodal Pain Management To Reduce Perioperative Opioid Use In Total Knee Arthroplasty, Renee Merrill, Curt C. Stilp, Shane Merrill, Michelle Rhea, Jason Brumitt

Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc)

Background: The opioid epidemic ranks among the most significant public health crises of our time, with prolonged opioid use often resulting from overprescription following surgeries such as total knee arthroplasty.

Methods: PubMed and Medline (EBSCO) were searched from inception until July 2024 for studies comparing multimodal pain management interventions aimed at reducing opioid use after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) to a control group. Twenty-eight articles were identified that met the inclusion criteria.

Results: Opioid-sparing multimodal pain management approaches, including acetaminophen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors, gabapentinoids, peripheral nerve blocks, cryoneurolysis and local infiltration analgesia, can effectively manage pain after a …

Puccinellia (Puccinellia Ciliata) For Dryland Salinity Management, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia Nov 2024

Puccinellia (Puccinellia Ciliata) For Dryland Salinity Management, Department Of Primary Industries And Regional Development, Western Australia

Natural resources factsheets

Puccinellia (Puccinellia ciliata) is a potentially valuable fodder on waterlogged saline land. Puccinellia, Distichlis and marine couch are the most salt tolerant of the commercially available grasses. It is best suited to areas with more than 400mm annual rainfall and where the watertable is shallow over summer.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development recommends that any dryland salinity management is part of a whole farm, and preferably a whole catchment, water management plan.

Despite treatment attempts with gabapentin, quetiapine, and donepezil, the symptoms persisted, demonstrating the difficulty in treating this condition.

Unlocking College Potential: The Role Of Student Expectations And Non-Cognitive Skills In College Success, Gema Zamarro, Malachi Nichols, Julie R. Trivitt, Rian Djita

Education Reform Faculty and Graduate Students Publications

Attending college is a significant human capital investment but only about 60% of those who start college will have a completed degree six years later. This makes identifying the skills associated with college success an important policy concern. We surveyed over 1,100 entering college freshmen, majoring in business and engineering at a public university in the US, and combined this information with administrative data to create a comprehensive data set that, in addition to the usual academic performance data, cognitive ability measures, and demographics, also included measures of non-cognitive skills, personality traits, student expectations about college success and performance at …

Using Noninvasive Calibrated Cuff Plethysmography To Observe The Effects Of Diabetes On Arterial Compliance, Jadon Bradford

Master's Theses

The prevalence of cardiovascular disease is on a continuous exponential growth across the globe. Thus, research into the underlying factors, effective methods of diagnoses, and preventive measures is necessary. Endothelial dysfunction is an early detector of cardiovascular diseases and can be used to inform people of preventative measures and early treatments before any extreme medical conditions occur. Something that is also on the rise and closely linked with cardiovascular disease is diabetes. There have been many past research studies that show the impact of diabetes on cardiovascular disease and more specifically endothelial dysfunction. A calibrated cuff plethysmography device is a …

At The Intersection Of Information Literacy And Written Communication: Student Perspectives And Practices Related To Source-Based Writing, Sarah P.C. Dahlen, Kelsey Nordstrom-Sanchez, Nelson Graff

Library Faculty Publications and Presentations

Source-based writing exists at the intersection of information literacy and written communication, where information from sources is incorporated into writing to achieve a communicative purpose. This case study addresses how students in junior-level college writing classes use information from sources in their papers and how they think about these practices. Student papers from multiple disciplines were coded to document source-based writing practices, such as the use of direct quotes, paraphrasing, and summarizing, and the rhetorical purpose the cited information served in the paper. The papers exhibited high use of direct quotes, indirect citations, and information from sources used as background …

SAIPAR Case Review

This article discusses the sentencing of Jordan Parlour for inciting racial hatred through social media posts that encouraged attacks on a hotel housing refugees and asylum seekers. The case highlights the serious implications associated with online hate speech and the legal framework set by Articles 19 and 20 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to be particular, which prohibit incitement to national, racial, or religious hatred. The Appeal Of The Apex Court In Botswana: The Case Of Carter Morupisi V. State, Muna B. Ndulo, Louis Koen, Samantha Smit

SAIPAR Case Review

This case note discusses the Botswana Court of Appeal's ruling in Carter Morupisi v State, which addressed the High Court's unprecedented attempt to review a decision of the Court of Appeal. The commentary highlights the fundamental principle of judicial hierarchy and the separation of powers in Botswana's constitutional framework. The Court of Appeal emphatically rejected the High Court's jurisdiction to review its judgments, reaffirming its position as the final arbiter (highest judicial authority). The authors emphasise that while the High Court may raise constitutional questions with regards to Apex courts decisions, it cannot adjudicate on them, reinforcing the concept of …

Selected Delivery Dynamics In Discus Throwing, Andreas Maheras Nov 2024

Selected Delivery Dynamics In Discus Throwing, Andreas Maheras

Track and Field Faculty Publications

In discus throwing, the period of time between the landing of the left foot in the front of the ring and the actual release of the discus, is called the delivery phase. During that phase all discus throwers are in double support (both feet on the ground) for the majority of its duration. However, at the moment the discus is released, there are differences among throwers in that some maintain contact with the ground at release whereas others have lost contact with the ground at that moment, with both feet. Several years ago coaches, particularly Europeans, would advocate the maintenance …
