Texts, Affects And Teenagers: (Im)Material Transmissions Across France And Ireland, Taylor Still
Journal of Franco-Irish Studies
This article examines the circulation of texts between people, spaces and cultural perspectives, addressing disparate mediums from virtual transmission, including social media channels; to physical or material transmission in public space(s). Central to the internationalised transmission of texts, the recent emergence and popularity of channels such as TikTok and Instagram have allowed for more innovative, creative and collaborative literary practices. Focusing on young publics in particular, we interrogate how “viral” transmissive practices can work to re-produce, re-appropriate, and re-interpret literary texts. This article also focuses on the affective experience of these transmissive textual practices, and how the (non-)human interactions can …
Un Silence Assourdissant! Listening To What’S Not Being Said, Addressing The Silence Around And Impact Of Intersectionality For Leaving Certificate Applied Students In Irish Second Level Education., Vicki O'Reilly
Journal of Franco-Irish Studies
Intersectionality as a concept for diversity and discrimination helps us to put shape on the many layers and descriptors that label and often define us as individuals. The narrative we hear about how we discuss and describe each layer can shape how society places value on each layer or descriptor. Where we hear nothing, where there is gap in our narrative, we can find discourse lacking as a means to shape and overcome intersectionality. In looking at two specific descriptors, socio-economic status and educational attainment, we investigate how their intersection can impact individuals and the ensuant discourse that surrounds them. …
Accreditation Rendezvous: A Confluence Of Tradition And Progress, Brian Murphy
Accreditation Rendezvous: A Confluence Of Tradition And Progress, Brian Murphy
Journal of Franco-Irish Studies
University accreditation serves as a crucial nexus between tradition and progress, reflecting the evolution of educational standards across time and geography. This article delves into the historical foundations of accreditation, tracing its origins from medieval Europe to contemporary standards. While exploring the global landscape, the article predominantly focuses on contemporary accreditation developments in Ireland, managed by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). Amidst the digital age's challenges, including the proliferation of unaccredited online courses, Ireland's commitment to rigorous accreditation standards stands out. Innovative approaches such as micro-credentials and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) are emerging, offering flexible learning options and recognising …

Leak Detection Gutter For Liquid Cooled Pluggable Optical Modules, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
A leak detection gutter for liquid-cooled pluggable optical modules is provided. This gutter is a drip-catching and detection assembly consisting of a plastic tray designed to capture and direct any leaks onto a leak detection cable. The assembly is positioned beneath one or multiple liquid connections associated with a pluggable optical module (POM) or an array of POMs. Additionally, it can be used beneath or adjacent to any other component, liquid connection, or tubing run related to a liquid-cooled circuit assembly, such as a packet optical circuit assembly or a data center interconnect circuit assembly, to name a few examples. …

Aspects and implementations of the present disclosure provide systems that keep a live media session running even if the devices providing the live media for the session become disconnected from the session. The systems keep the viewers of the live media session informed about the status of the live media session and provide an expectation that the live media will resume. In one example, a host device can provide continuity content (e.g., videos or images) to a server, the server can periodically determine if the host device has unexpectedly disconnected from the live media session, and if so, the server …

The Al Harris Library received a donation of the archive of retired astronaut General Thomas P. Stafford. The continually growing collection includes over 200 boxes containing NASA reports, professional and personal pictures, videos, and more. Part of the collection is the approximately 700 books used for research by Stafford and his co-author Michael Cassutt to write the memoir We Have Capture: Tom Stafford and the Space Race (2002). Half of these books are a collection of Soviet-era Russia (USSR) space program books and periodicals written in Russian. Michael Cassutt has characterized the books as the most comprehensive collection about the …
Pity The Poor Reader, Charles H. Haddad
Pity The Poor Reader, Charles H. Haddad
School of Communication and Journalism Faculty Publications
I conceived my book “Pity the Poor Reader” as an un-textbook, an irreverent “Elements of style.” Like Elements, it’s designed to complement textbooks. Pity is concise, memorable and portable. Under 300 pages, Pity serves as an aspiring writer’s keepsake. Concision lies at the heart of Pity. The key concepts of writing well are distilled into irreverent, memorable lines and axioms. Many of them are organized as lists that are easily printed and taped to a wall or a computer. Indeed, in testing the book with my university students, I’ve found that many of them did print out its list of …

An-Najah University Journal for Research - B (Humanities)
Background: Within the Indian society and its many communities, adolescents exhibit a wide range of individual differences, including cognitive abilities, learning styles, and personality traits. These differences can influence how students perceive and cope with test anxiety and related stress. Objective: The primary goal of this research study was to investigate the influence of cognitive test anxiety on academic performance in adolescents from both minority (Muslims) and majority (Hindus) communities in India. Method: Based on descriptive-inferential research design, a sample of 450 students was selected, with 223 students representing the majority community and the remaining 227 students representing the minority …

The Impact Of Incidental Doubt On The Continuation Of The Descriptive Attribute That Establishes The Ruling According To The Maliki School – An Applied Foundational Study, Khlouq D. Agha, Shibli A. Obeidat, Rogayah S. Alqaraleh, Ibrahim A. Abualadas
An-Najah University Journal for Research - B (Humanities)
Objective: This study aims to elucidate the impact of incidental doubt on the descriptive attribute that establishes a ruling in its continuation (Istiṣḥāb) according to Maliki Stream. This necessitated conducting an applied foundational study of this type of continuation (Istiṣḥāb), by addressing the primary question: Does incidental doubt regarding the descriptive attribute that establishes a ruling have the strength to annul the continuation (Istiṣḥāb) of that attribute and change the established ruling in Maliki jurisprudence? Methedology: The researchers in this study relied on inductive and descriptive-analytical methodologies. Results: The study concluded with several findings, most notably that the continuation (Istiṣḥāb) …

Deconstructing The Iobc Tiered Method: Are We Overestimating The Compatibility Of Pesticides And Natural Enemies?, John D. Stark, John E. Banks
UROC Staff Publications and Presentations
Accurately estimating the risk of sensitive populations subjected to toxicant disturbances is central to our ability to protect ecosystem services. While the gold standard for assessing risk historically involves static measures such as the LD50 or LC50, more sophisticated approaches have been developed in an attempt to capture more nuanced outcomes. In the 1980s the International Organization for Biological Control (IOBC) developed a tiered approach to determine the compatibility of pesticides and natural enemies in the context of integrated pest management (IPM). We analyzed the IOBC approach using stage-based matrix models to project population outcomes for four parasitoid species, Diaeretiella …
