Title IX prohibits schools from responding with deliberate indifference to student-on-student sexual harassment that interferes with, or threatens to interfere with, a victim’s education. It also prohibits schools from retaliating against students who engage in Title IX protected activity, such as reporting an assault. Here, another Marshall student sexually assaulted Roe at an offcampus residence near Marshall’s campus. Roe reported the assault and other instances of student-on-student relationship abuse. In the assault’s aftermath, Roe missed classes and limited her time on campus because she was afraid of encountering her assailant. Her grades suffered. Marshall did not address the …

BACKGROUND: Invasive candidiasis/candidemia (IC/C) is associated with a substantial health economic burden driven primarily by prolonged hospital stay. The once-weekly IV echinocandin, rezafungin acetate, has demonstrated non-inferiority to caspofungin in the treatment of IC/C. This paper reports a post hoc pooled exploratory analysis of length of stay (LoS) for hospital and intensive care unit (ICU) stays in two previously published clinical trials (ReSTORE [NCT03667690] and STRIVE [NCT02734862], that compared rezafungin with daily IV caspofungin (stable patients in the caspofungin group who met relevant criteria could step down to fluconazole after 3 days or more).
METHODS: LoS outcomes were analysed descriptively …

BACKGROUND: Collaboration strategies refer to policies and practices used to align operations and services across organizations or systems. These strategies can influence implementation of cross-system interventions focused on improving integration of care, but remain under-specified and under-examined. This study identifies collaboration strategies and the conditions under which they affected implementation of Sobriety Treatment and Recovery Teams (START), an evidence-based intervention focused on integrating child welfare and behavioral health services for families involved with both systems.
METHODS: Our study sample included 17 county child welfare agencies that implemented START. Data on collaboration strategies and organizational context were obtained from key informant …

BACKGROUND: Medication overuse headache (MOH) is the most common secondary headache disorder, resulting from chronic and excessive use of medication to treat headaches, for example, sumatriptan. In a recent study, we have shown that the peripheral C-C motif ligand 2 (CCL2), C-C motif chemokine receptor 2 (CCR2) and calcitonin-gene-related peptide (CGRP) signaling pathways interact with each other and play critical roles in the development of chronic migraine-related behavioral and cellular sensitization. In the present study, we investigated whether CCL2-CCR2 and CGRP signaling pathways play a role in the development of sumatriptan overuse-induced sensitization, and whether they are involved in its …

Estimating Companion Camera Distance Using Sound Source Localization In A Multi-Camera Scenario, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
In a two-camera system, a highly accurate distance estimation between the cameras is critical to customer experience. Here, we describe a solution that estimates the direct distance between a table camera and a video bar with their existing hardware and a simple algorithm. When there are two loudspeakers on a video bar and microphone arrays on a table camera that can localize sound sources, the distance between the table camera and the projection of table camera on video bar can be determined by the difference of the sound source localization (SSL) angles of the two loudspeakers.

In this article we narrate an instructional practice we implemented in two different teacher education courses that facilitated conversations about teacher identity through the use of fictional characters who were educators. This practice served two purposes in our course work: firstly, this activity presents students with an opportunity to demonstrate their media interests and career goals; secondly, this activity provides a quick, baseline assessment of how aspiring teachers view their profession and future practice. We detail student responses to this activity and consider how their choices of fictional educators fit into broader patterns we see in popular culture, specifically depictions …

In the third episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Book 3: The Book Of Fire, the “Gaang” consisting of Avatar Aang, Toph, Sokka, and Katara chanced upon a fishing village on stilts, ravaged by the pollution of its waterways. The pollution comes from the industrial activity of the Colonial Masters’ Fire Nation which greatly affected the village. This animation is from Nickelodeon, a channel geared for children’s entertainment, thus implicates humorous asides in what purports to be a serious epicurean reclaiming of a lost balance through indigenous visual culture, solidarity, media studies, and ecocriticism. The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020-22 brought an abundance of changes to secondary education as students transitioned across the country to virtual and hybrid learning contexts. Teachers flexed quickly and frequently to support the learning that students acquired in these new, digital spaces even as school, district, and state demands on teaching increased. The English/Language Arts classroom pivoted along with others as teachers sought out digital reading and writing resources for students to engage in. In the midst of a national crisis, a metaphorical monster that sought to destroy, much like Beowulf ’s dragon did, adolescent readers, despite the discourses of …

The short film series Wings (2016) by the Korean musical group BTS (Beyond the Scene) revisits John Milton’s Paradise Lost. BTS reinterprets Adam and Eve’s leaving of Eden as youths’ self-discovery process, overcoming a binary mindset. BTS emphasizes how experiences—trials, pains, and the struggle of youths to walk out of black-and-white perspectives—turn out to be “all so beautiful” as resources to grow. Wings demonstrates how the themes and elements in Paradise Lost can be used as a tool not only to explore Biblical concepts, but also to understand what pedagogical environments youths need to fully express themselves as writers. …

Three Years Of Misinformation: A Case Study Of Information Literacy Methods, Elizabeth Zak
Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy
Misinformation is an ever-evolving digital issue. As the internet evolves, so too does misinformation and the ways in which it is propagated. Information literacy methods, such as the CRAAP test, the RADAR framework and the SIFT method, can help information users discern between real and fake information, and prevent the spread of misinformation. Unfortunately, the speed with which misinformation evolves often makes information literacy methods obsolete when they are designed and implemented. Furthermore, when people trust misinformation, they struggle with identifying correct information. Visual misinformation presents another concern: people trust what they see, and new misinformative developments such as deepfakes …

Head injuries from falls are a major cause of illness and death in children due to trauma. Despite their prevalence and impact, there is limited understanding of how children's heads react during impact events. Infant Post-Mortem-Human-Surrogate (PMHS) testing, a reasonable method for studying impact biomechanics, faces significant restrictions due to emotional, moral, and ethical issues.
