B.F.A. Practicum Exhibition (ART 498)
Nature has always been a source of inspiration; something about an environment which tends to be overlooked. Surrounded by or gazing upon landscapes is a reminder to engage with the present moment and the individuals I share those moments with as well. That practice of observation, of regarding any moment in life as something worth being inspired by, fuels my work. Reflecting about natural cycles can give one a more outward-thinking approach to life and connection. An organic ecosystem is a cycle of dying and rebirthing when the time is right. This applies itself into the lives of people as …

Improving College Students’ Attention Retention With A Brain-Controlled Drone Simulation, Ji Won Bae
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In contemporary society, individuals are continuously exposed to a plethora of stimuli, which can precipitate distractions and impede cognitive performance in tasks such as professional work and academic studies. This investigation proposes an innovative approach aimed at enhancing attentional focus through the utilization of Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI). BCIs represent advanced methodologies for deciphering neural activity patterns. Specifically, electroencephalography (EEG), a technique for monitoring the brain's electrical signals, serves as the foundation for BCI applications. EEG analyses reveal distinctive wave patterns indicative of states of concentration, vigilance, and cognitive engagement. Consequently, BCIs hold promise for the real-time assessment of users' attentional states. …

Performance Optimization And Application Of P-Type Transparent Semiconductors In The Cdte Solar Cells, Md Zahangir Alom
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
CdTe thin-film solar cells are one of the major interests in the solar industry for their favorable properties. For example, CdTe has a near-ideal bandgap (1.45 eV) for absorption of the solar spectrum, and a high absorption coefficient ( ̴ 105 cm-1) and can capture 99% of light with only 2 µm of film thickness. Moreover, CdTe can be doped both n and p-type. Additionally, low production costs contribute to more affordable panel prices (0.40 $/W) [1]. The highest efficiency achieved to-date for this material is 23.1% demonstrated by First Solar, which is still lower than the theoretical limit [2]. …

We used data from a densely spaced node array to investigate seismic velocity structure within the southern rupture area of the M9.2 1964 Great Alaska earthquake. The node array was deployed along a ~50 km section of the road system on Kodiak Island as part of the Alaska Amphibious Community Seismic Experiment (AACSE). The full ~400-node array was active for 25 days in May-June 2019. We extracted Rayleigh wave dispersion curves from ambient noise cross-correlations between station pairs in the node array to compute phase velocity maps from 2-8 s periods. Using these phase velocity maps, we performed a Bayesian …

Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global health concern, driving the need for novel
therapeutic strategies. This study explores the antimicrobial efficacy of conjugated
polyelectrolytes (CPEs) and oligo-phenylene ethynylenes (OPEs) in bacterial and viral
inactivation. Quantitative analysis revealed that light-activated CPEs and OPEs
effectively reduced bacterial viability within minutes, with significant log reductions
observed under both light and dark conditions. Additionally, the antiviral potential of a
cationic conjugated oligomer was investigated, demonstrating rapid and near-complete
inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 under visible light, both in solution and on filter materials.
Further analysis of their photophysical properties revealed that, even after
photobleaching, the compounds …

The physical mechanisms usually applied to explain the relativistic electron enhancement have been delved into to elucidate non-adiabatic electron acceleration resulting in the ultra-relativistic electron population observed in the outer radiation belt. We considered multisatellite observations of the solar wind parameters, magnetospheric waves, and particle flux to report an unusual local acceleration of ultra-relativistic electrons under a prolonged high-speed solar wind stream (HSS). A corotating interaction region reaches the Earth’s bowshock on August 3, 2016, causing a minor geomagnetic storm. Following this, the magnetosphere was driven for 72 h by a long-term HSS propagating at 600 km/s. During this period, …

Financial system is a vital component of the overall socio-economic system of a country as well part of international financial architecture in a globalized world. Transformation of a financial system in absence of complementary changes in the larger socio economic systems may not enable us to achieve the goals of Maqasid e Shariah. I would therefore like to draw your attention to at least a few pressing issues. Judiciary and Legislature have done their job which was the easiest declaratory and directive giving a deadline for conversion of the entire financial system to become Shariah -Compliant. The difficult part to …
