Understanding the unprecedented growth of cryptocurrency has challenged professionals and scholars. This study involved addressing the existence of arbitrage opportunities in the Canadian cryptocurrency market. The purpose of this study was to test the theory of the law of one price (LOP) on cryptocurrency in Canada. The LOP demonstrates the value of a financial asset should be the same across different markets. The research questions for this study examined if different exchanges cause arbitrage opportunities in the Canadian cryptocurrency market and if volatility and liquidity were influencers of the arbitrage opportunities between Canadian cryptocurrency exchanges. A quantitative nonexperimental cross-sectional research …

Pinney Jr. (Kenneth) V. State Of Nevada, 140 Nev. Adv. Op. 71 (Nov. 21, 2024), Lilian Xie

Nevada Supreme Court Summaries

The Nevada Court of Appeals reversed the judgment of conviction and remanded for a new trial for appellant Kenneth Ray Joseph Pinney, Jr. The Court concluded that the district court erred in applying the incorrect test to exclude evidence of the victim Jorge Ramirez-More’s prior violent acts, and such an error was not harmless. In Burgeon v. State, the Court held that a victim’s prior acts are admissible as evidence if the defendant raises a self-defense claim and had knowledge of such acts. Here, the State argued that Tinch v. State altered the Burgeon holding. However, the Court disagreed …

Dawson (Clifton) V. State, 140 Nev. Adv. Op. 72 (Nov. 21, 2024), Cassandra White

Nevada Supreme Court Summaries

Appellant Clifton Dawson sexually assaulted C.V. in 1997 but was only linked to the crime and sentenced in 2022. The district court adjudicated Dawson as a habitual criminal according to the relevant statute when he committed his offense in 1997, which requires three prior felony convictions. The Court reviewed Dawson’s challenges to his sentencing regarding the operative habitual criminal statute and the required number of prior felony convictions. The Court held that when adjudicating a defendant as a habitual criminal, the operative statute is the one that was in effect when the defendant committed his charged offense, not the one …

Monstrosity In The Early Modern Period: The Grotesque In John Dryden’S The Fable Of Acis, Polyphemus And Galatea., Kayla M. Stump Nov 2024

Monstrosity In The Early Modern Period: The Grotesque In John Dryden’S The Fable Of Acis, Polyphemus And Galatea., Kayla M. Stump

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In The Fable of Acis, Polyphemus and Galatea, John Dryden reinterprets the myth of Polyphemus to reflect early modern perspectives on monstrosity and the natural world. Situated within the context of European colonial expansion, Dryden’s translation and significant additions to Ovid’s narrative capture early modern society’s deepening engagement with the natural environment and shifting views on the “Other,” a figure often synonymous with monstrosity. While much has been written about monstrosity during this period, this study focuses on Dryden’s depiction of Polyphemus as a monster whose ambivalence—rather than distancing him from nature—anchors him within it. Using pastoral motifs and vivid …
