Review: The Catholicism Of Literature In The Age Of The Book Of Common Prayer: Poetry, Plays, Works, 1558-1689, Brandon Schneeberger Jan 2025

Review: The Catholicism Of Literature In The Age Of The Book Of Common Prayer: Poetry, Plays, Works, 1558-1689, Brandon Schneeberger

Quidditas

Anyone who has observed the worship trends of the younger generation of Christians in the last ten to twenty years will have noticed a renewed interest in traditional, liturgically conservative forms of worship. Whether it is interest in liturgy itself, or in the materials of liturgy - ornate vestments, incense, candles, bells, chanting, etc. - young people today display a keen interest in forms of worship and reverence that seem to have been lost in the cultural upheaval of the late twentieth century, a revolution that affected both Protestant and Catholic forms of worship. However effective the late twentieth-century iconoclasm …

Food Waste Crisis In The United States Of America: The Known, The Overlooked And The Undisclosed, Sagarika Srivastava, David J. Tonjes Jan 2025

Food Waste Crisis In The United States Of America: The Known, The Overlooked And The Undisclosed, Sagarika Srivastava, David J. Tonjes

Technology & Society Faculty Publications

With a loss of 1,250 calories per day per person or 140 kg/p/yr, the United States (U.S.) has a large problem with food waste. The later a product is wasted in the supply chain, the greater its environmental cost. Many food waste mitigation efforts focus on the retail and consumer stages, but there is also considerable food waste in the production phase, which includes growing, harvesting, transportation, storage and processing. The study is conducted in two steps: a bibliometric analysis of 218 articles on food waste in the U.S., followed by an investigation of options to meet food waste recovery …

5 Bfts Association Newsletter No. 30 - New Year 2025, Jenifer A. Harding

Newsletters

On Christmas Day, the temperature here was a very mild 12C (54F) but the New Year has bought the UK very cold weather (down to -5C or 23F here but colder in other parts of the UK). The most predictable thing we can say about our weather is that it is unpredictable! It is predictable that Florida will experience a hurricane during the year, but when, where, and to what extent, is unpredictable. Not since 2005, have three hurricanes made landfall in Florida as in 2024, two being particularly devastating - Helene and Milton.

In October 1941, a group of …

Evaluating Methods For Examining The Relative Persuasiveness Of Policy Arguments, Jared Mcdonald, Michael J. Hanmer Jan 2025

Evaluating Methods For Examining The Relative Persuasiveness Of Policy Arguments, Jared Mcdonald, Michael J. Hanmer

Political Science & International Affairs Articles

Survey researchers testing the effectiveness of arguments for or against policies traditionally employ between-subjects designs. In doing so, they lose statistical power and the ability to precisely estimate public attitudes. We explore the efficacy of an approach often used to address these limitations: the repeated measures within-subjects (RMWS) design. This study tests the competing hypotheses that (1) the RMWS will yield smaller effects due to respondents' desire to maintain consistency (the “opinion anchor” hypothesis), and (2) the RMWS will yield larger effects because the researcher provides respondents with the opportunity to update their attitudes (the “opportunity to revise” hypothesis). Using …
