Palmitoylation Regulates Intracellular Trafficking Of Β2 Adrenergic Receptor/Arrestin/Phosphodiesterase 4d Complexes In Cardiomyocytes, Ruijie Liu, Dayong Wang, Qian Shi, Qin Fu, Steven Hizon, Yang K. Xiang Aug 2012

Palmitoylation Regulates Intracellular Trafficking Of Β2 Adrenergic Receptor/Arrestin/Phosphodiesterase 4d Complexes In Cardiomyocytes, Ruijie Liu, Dayong Wang, Qian Shi, Qin Fu, Steven Hizon, Yang K. Xiang

Peer Reviewed Articles

β2 adrenergic receptor (β2AR) is a prototypical G-protein coupled receptor that stimulates the classic cAMP-protein kinase A (PKA) signaling pathway. Recent studies indicate that the cAMP-PKA activities are spatiotemporally regulated in part due to dynamic association of β2AR with phosphodiesterase 4D (PDE4D), a group of cAMP degradation enzymes. Here, we demonstrate that in cardiomyocytes, palmitoylation of β2AR, the covalent acylation of cysteine residue 341, plays a critical role in shaping subcellular cAMP-PKA activities in cardiomyocytes via regulating β2AR association with arrestin/PDE4D. Replacing cysteine 341 on β2AR with alanine (C341A) …

Effectiveness Of Phosphorus Fertilizers In Hydroponics And Glasshouse Settings With Moderate And High Organic Matter Soils, Jeffrey Sean Christian Summerhays Aug 2012

Effectiveness Of Phosphorus Fertilizers In Hydroponics And Glasshouse Settings With Moderate And High Organic Matter Soils, Jeffrey Sean Christian Summerhays

Theses and Dissertations

Phosphorus (P) is poorly soluble in most soils and, thus, has poor plant uptake efficiency. AVAIL® and Carbond P (CBP) are new fertilizer products shown to increase P use efficiency (PUE) and increase crop yields when grown in P limiting soils. Carbond P has specifically been seen to increases P uptake and crop yields in soils low in P, although effectiveness in regards to soil organic matter is unknown. The objectives of these studies were to determine if the mode of action for these products is related to physiological response, to determine if Carbond P is toxic to plant roots …

Characterization And Variable Expression Of The Cslf6 Homologs In Oat (Avena Sp.), Melissa A. Coon

Theses and Dissertations

(1,3;1,4)-β- D-glucan (β-glucan) is a plant cell wall hemicellulose and a main component of endosperm cell walls. The Cellulose Synthase F family of genes is involved in the synthesis of β-glucan. In this study full-length genomic sequences of CslF6 were obtained from multiple Avena species. Three unique alleles were found in each A. sativa line. Comparisons of these alleles to diploid Avena species allowed for identification of the genomic origin of each allele. The A and D genome alleles had identical amino acid sequences while the C-genome had 13 different amino acids. Global expression of CslF6 was completed at three …

A Confidence-Prioritization Approach To Data Processing In Noisy Data Sets And Resulting Estimation Models For Predicting Streamflow Diel Signals In The Pacific Northwest, Nathaniel Lee Gustafson Aug 2012

A Confidence-Prioritization Approach To Data Processing In Noisy Data Sets And Resulting Estimation Models For Predicting Streamflow Diel Signals In The Pacific Northwest, Nathaniel Lee Gustafson

Theses and Dissertations

Streams in small watersheds are often known to exhibit diel fluctuations, in which streamflow oscillates on a 24-hour cycle. Streamflow diel fluctuations, which we investigate in this study, are an informative indicator of environmental processes. However, in Environmental Data sets, as well as many others, there is a range of noise associated with individual data points. Some points are extracted under relatively clear and defined conditions, while others may include a range of known or unknown confounding factors, which may decrease those points' validity. These points may or may not remain useful for training, depending on how much uncertainty they …

Thinking Fourth Dimensionally: How Battlefields Become Deloreans, John M. Rudy

Interpreting the Civil War: Connecting the Civil War to the American Public

I have written before of my intense love for Back to the Future III. Part of the reason that film resonates with my movie-going soul is my abiding love of the 19th century. Part of me wishes I could hop into a Stainless-Steel Delorian and visit the past for a short stint. I'm pretty sure I'm too much of a pansy to last very long in the world of latrines and muddy water, but I'd love to see the past for even just one fleeting moment. [excerpt]

Mitigation Of Shoulder-Surfing Attack On Picture-Based Passwords Using Falsifying Authentication Methods / Por Lip Yee, Lip Yee Por Aug 2012

Mitigation Of Shoulder-Surfing Attack On Picture-Based Passwords Using Falsifying Authentication Methods / Por Lip Yee, Lip Yee Por

Student Works (2010-2019)

Over the years, various picture-based password systems were proposed to exploit the utility of pictures for user authentication. However, there are problems associated with these picture-based password authentication systems such as: vulnerability to security threats, and users’ memorability of the passwords. This research was undertaken to develop methods to mitigate shoulder-surfing attack. Two falsifying authentication methods using: (i) penup event and neighbouring connectivity manipulation; and (ii) partial password selection and metaheuristic randomisation algorithm methods, were proposed. The first and second proposed methods were incorporated into the proposed Background Pass-Go (BPG) system and Visual Identification Protocol Professional (VIP Pro) system respectively. …

Maintenance Of Rainwater Harvesting (Rwh) System In Malaysia / Hafsah Yahaya, Yahaya Hafsah

Student Works (2010-2019)

The application of Rainwater harvesting (RWH) system in Malaysia is still considered as a new phenomenon. However, with the support and effort of government in promoting the application of RWH in building, the number of building using the RWH is increased gradually. The system has been applied for various types of building such as housing, institutional and commercial. Even though the application of RWH is ongoing, there is no specific guideline in maintaining RWH. Maintenance performance is the key aspect in sustaining the RWH system. With the initial investment in installing the RWH, the organization must be able to monitor …
