Invisible Discrimination: Employers, Social Media Sites And Passwords In The U.S., Richard L. Pate Sep 2012

Invisible Discrimination: Employers, Social Media Sites And Passwords In The U.S., Richard L. Pate

WCBT Faculty Publications

With the advent and popularity of social networking sites, the boundaries of the relationship between the employer and employee/prospective employee have stretched well beyond the workplace and working hours. Predictably, this relationship expansion has led to uncharted adversarial scenarios between the respective parties. Unfortunately, in this new, vibrant cyber world, employment law is struggling for deference and attention. Notwithstanding this ostensible indifference, each phase of the relationship is heavily impacted by social network media. Applicant recruitment, information gathering and applicant selection stand to be impacted by the social network communications made by employees or prospective employees. This article examines whether …

Spectroscopy And Dynamics Of The Predissociated, Quasi-Linear S₂ State Of Chlorocarbene, Chong Tao, Craig A. Richmond, Calvin Mukarakate, Scott H. Kable, George B. Bacskay, Eric C. Brown, Richard Dawes, Phalgun Lolur, Scott A. Reid

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

In this work, we report on the spectroscopy and dynamics of the quasi-linear S2 state of chlorocarbene, CHCl, and its deuterated isotopologue using optical-optical double resonance (OODR) spectroscopy through selected rovibronic levels of the S1 state. This study, which represents the first observation of the S2 state in CHCl, builds upon our recent examination of the corresponding state in CHF, where pronounced mode specificity was observed in the dynamics, with predissociation rates larger for levels containing bending excitation. In the present work, a total of 14 S2 state vibrational levels with angular momentum 1 were observed …

Exploring Firm Characteristics That Differentiate Leaders From Followers In Industry Merger Waves: A Competitive Dynamics Perspective, Jerayr (John) Haleblian, Gerry Mcnamara, Kalin Kolev, Bernadine J. Dykes

Management Faculty Research and Publications

Research in strategic management has shown that the timing of firm participation in a merger wave matters, as early movers have been shown to outperform later ones. However, while the consequences of the timing of action within a merger wave have been assessed, the causes that drive these timing effects remain unknown. We draw on the competitive dynamics perspective to investigate firm-level factors that influence the large-scale strategic behavior of leading or following within industry merger waves. We develop hypotheses based on the competitive dynamics argument that the awareness-motivation-capability of firms will influence the timing of competitive action. Consistent with …

Preemptive Ketamine Administration, Carisa Zarr Sep 2012

Preemptive Ketamine Administration, Carisa Zarr

Theses and Dissertations

Optimal pain management for the surgical patient is challenging for anesthesia providers. Finding new and improved methods of relieving surgical pain and evolving new techniques is an area of much research. The concept of preemptive analgesia suggests that the best postoperative pain management begins preoperatively (Morgan, Mikhail, & Murray, 2009). Preemptive administration of analgesic medications is used to stop pain from starting by blocking the nervous system's usual response to pain. This preemptive approach is thought to prevent wind up after the noxious stimulus of a surgical incision and can help prevent heightened sensitivity and lasting pain after surgery

Ketamine …

Development And Validation Of A Rapid Lc-Ms/Ms Method Fortthe Determination Of Jcc76, A Novel Antitumor Agent For Breast Cancer, In Rat Plasma And Its Application To A Pharmacokinetics Study, Xiaohan Cai, Bo Zhong, Bin Su, Songlin Xu, Baochuan Guo Sep 2012

Development And Validation Of A Rapid Lc-Ms/Ms Method Fortthe Determination Of Jcc76, A Novel Antitumor Agent For Breast Cancer, In Rat Plasma And Its Application To A Pharmacokinetics Study, Xiaohan Cai, Bo Zhong, Bin Su, Songlin Xu, Baochuan Guo

Chemistry Faculty Publications

JCC76 is a novel nimesulide analog that selectively inhibits the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) overexpressing breast cancer cell proliferation and tumor progression. To support further pharmacological and toxicological studies of JCC76, a novel and rapid method using liquid chromatography and electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) has been developed and validated for the quantification of the compound in rat plasma. A C18 column was used for chromatographic separation, and the mobile phase was aqueous ammonium formate (pH 3.7; 5 mm)–methanol (1:9, v/v) with an isocratic elution. With a simple liquid–liquid extraction procedure using the mixture of methyl …

Identification Of Selective Tubulin Inhibitors As Potential Anti-Trypanosomal Agents, Rati Lama, Ranjodh Sandhu, Bo Zhong, Bibo Li, Bin Su Sep 2012

Identification Of Selective Tubulin Inhibitors As Potential Anti-Trypanosomal Agents, Rati Lama, Ranjodh Sandhu, Bo Zhong, Bibo Li, Bin Su

Chemistry Faculty Publications

The potency of a series of sulfonamide tubulin inhibitors against the growth of Trypanosoma brucei (T. brucei), as well as human cancer and primary fibroblast cells were evaluated with the aim of determining whether compounds that selectively inhibit parasite proliferation could be identified. Several compounds showed excellent selectivity against T. brucei growth, and have the potential to be used for the treatment of Human African trypanosomiasis. A T. brucei tubulin protein homology model was built based on the crystal structure of the bovine tubulin. The colchicine-binding domain, which is also the binding site of the tested sulfonamide tubulin inhibitors, showed …

Naval Services Game '12, Wargaming Department, Hunter R. Kellogg, John Y. Delateur, Howard Kee, Steve Burke, Hank Brightman, Lindsay Kaiser, Janelle Gatchalian

Game Reports

The United States Naval War College (NWC) in Newport, Rhode Island, in partnership with the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (MCWL), hosted the Naval Services Game (NSG) from 11-13 September 2012. The NSG was developed and executed under the sponsorship of the Naval Board. The purpose of the NSG was to explore the challenges associated with aggregating naval forces in response to an emerging conflict.
