This research investigated the preparation of aluminum nanoparticles using pulsed laser ablation in liquid (PLAL). Ablation was performed on a metallic target in distilled water using a 532 nm Nd:YAG laser at different laser energies (400, 600, and 800 mJ) with a repetition frequency of 1 Hz and 300 pulses. A change in the solution's color is one of the first indicators of nanoparticle formation. We observed a change in the color of the deionized distilled water from light white to dark white, suggesting the production of aluminum nanoparticles. This paper proposes a deep-space vehicle architecture utilizing a tethered, fusion-driven "puller" configuration to eliminate beam-riding instabilities inherent in traditional laser sails. A system and method translate clinical-trial protocol text into structured electronic-data-capture (EDC) edit-check rules (each rule expressed as field / operator / value / action with a severity, an action-on-violation, a confidence score, a human-readable rationale, and a provenance reference to the originating protocol span). The increasing need to deploy language models on constrained devices has given rise to efficiency issues in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) approaches. Although RAGs boost answers’ quality by retrieving knowledge from external sources, current methods utilize static retrieval mechanisms, resulting in unnecessary computation, higher latencies, and inefficiency in resource usage. Most of India’s scheduled languages remain critically under-served by language technology because parallel (translated) text — the raw material that modern multilingual systems depend on — is extremely scarce. Back-translation can synthesise such data automatically, but its quality varies enormously, and unfiltered synthetic data can be worse than no data at all. This dissertation develops a framework that generates synthetic parallel data for four low-resource Indian languages spanning three language families and four scripts — Assamese (Indo-Aryan, Bengali script), Bodo (Tibeto-Burman, Devanagari), Manipuri (Tibeto-Burman, Bengali script) and Santali (Austroasiatic, Ol Chiki)—and introduces CASCADE, a learned multi-signal quality gate that scores …

Formal verification plays a critical role in ensuring the correctness of modern hardware designs. As the complexity of digital systems increases, designs are often associated with a large number of verification properties that must be analyzed within limited computational resources. In conventional multi-property bounded model checking (BMC), all properties are verified simultaneously. The Enriquillo–Plantain Garden fault zone (EPGFZ) is a major left-lateral strike-slip fault in southern Haiti hosting several recent destructive earthquakes, including the 2021 MW 7.1 Nippes event with primary thrust-slip. To investigate how strain is accommodated in the vicinity of the 2021 event, we analyzed Sentinel-1 interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) data from 2017 to 2021 using a PS + DS (persistent + distributed scatterers) InSAR time-series approach to overcome decorrelation in this highly vegetated region. We reveal interseismic creep along the EPGF and adjacent Grand'Anse–Sud border faults, with pure strike-slip mechanism and rates up to 9 mm/yr. We suggest …

Kathryn Henne and Matt Ventresca’s Violent Impacts critically examines how narratives surrounding CTE, TBI, and the concussion crisis are constructed across sport, the military, law, media, and science. Drawing on intersectional feminism and science and technology studies, the authors show how dominant concussion discourses privilege the experiences of White male athletes while marginalizing other groups. Based on extensive fieldwork, the book makes an important contribution by exposing representational inequalities and highlighting the intersectional gender politics of concussion research and public debate.

Increasingly, automated agents operating in the physical world are expected to perform previously unseen tasks at levels comparable to human experts. Solutions to these challenges typically fall along a spectrum between model-based and model-free reinforcement learning (RL) approaches. Encouraging expert-like behavior in reinforcement learning is often difficult because reward functions can be challenging to specify accurately. Inverse reinforcement learning addresses this problem by inferring reward functions directly from expert demonstrations rather than relying on manually engineered objectives. Regulated cell death is a conserved process with major implications for health and disease, yet how yeast cells integrate stress signals to determine survival versus death remains unclear. This thesis investigates Cyclin C (Cnc1), a conserved Mediator kinase module component with both transcriptional and mitochondrial roles. Together with Cdk8 Cnc1 primarily represses stress response genes, while upon stress it translocates to the mitochondria to induce mitochondrial fragmentation with the dynamin-related GTPase Dnm1. Using structure-guided separation-of-function mutants, I demonstrate that Cnc1-dependent death requires its mitochondrial function rather than its transcriptional role, and that its effector Dnm1 acts as a signaling node …

The vasopressin (Avp) system modulates social behavior through region-specific and sex-dependent mechanisms, yet the role of Avp receptor 1a (Avpr1a) signaling in the thalamus has remained largely unexplored. This dissertation examined the distribution and functional contributions of Avpr1a-expressing neurons across the mouse thalamus using a combination of genetic labeling, anatomical quantification, and chemogenetic manipulation. Mapping of Avpr1a-expressing neurons revealed a presence in most thalamic nuclei, with highest densities in the anterior thalamic nuclei and midline nuclei. Notably, Avpr1a-expressing neuron densities did not mirror previously described patterns of Avp innervation, and no sex differences in Avpr1a-expressing neuron density were observed. Chemogenetic …

A good deal of research exists on the relationship between student use of video games outside the classroom and academic achievement. Our systematic review aims to identify what patterns exist across research conducted in the last 20 years. We examined 62 research studies that dealt with academic achievement and extracurricular video game use and found that most studies identify a negative association between the two. However, this isn’t the case for all students. We identified three important variables (the amount of time spent playing video games, the time of day or week spent playing, and the age of the students) …

BACKGROUND: Severe aortic stenosis (AS) and mitral regurgitation (MR) are frequently undertreated and characterized by persistent sex, racial and ethnic, socioeconomic, and geographic disparities despite effective valve therapies. Whether automated electronic clinician notification (ECN) alerts improve the evaluation and treatment of AS and MR across health systems is unknown.
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether ECN alerts improve guideline-directed evaluation and treatment of significant AS and MR across multiple health systems.

But how much do these new records reflect underlying value, how much is speculation, and how vulnerable are these stocks and the wider market to a major downturn? Our evidence and analyses show clear signs of bubble exuberance in most of these stocks, concentrated in a few names like Nvidia, leading to latent risks for investors who assume their index funds are safely diversified and supported by wider economic fundamentals.

Background
Oxidative stress and maladaptive neuroimmune activation contribute to cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and represent therapeutic targets beyond amyloid-centered approaches.
Objective
To determine whether oral D-methionine (D-Met), a redox-active amino acid, reduces amyloid pathology and lipid peroxidation and confers disease-modifying benefits in AD models.
Methods
Male and female APP/PS1 and APPNL−Fmice with advanced AD pathology received oral D-Met or vehicle. Behavioral assessments included locomotor activity and hippocampal-dependent spatial learning and memory. Amyloid burden, lipid peroxidation, peripheral metabolic, and inflammatory markers, and hippocampal microglial phenotypes were evaluated.
