Understanding The Needs And Practices Of Cut Flower Growers In Louisiana, Jessie M. Hoover Jun 2026

Understanding The Needs And Practices Of Cut Flower Growers In Louisiana, Jessie M. Hoover

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The specialty cut flower industry is expanding nationwide, including southeastern states such as Louisiana. Existing studies and market analyses focus on national trends of other regions with established floriculture networks, leaving a critical gap in understanding the unique challenges and opportunities faced by growers in Louisiana. This lack of data limits the ability of extension professionals, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to develop targeted strategies that support local production and market development. This study used qualitative case study methods to investigate the practices, challenges, and needs of 13 specialty cut flower growers in Louisiana. The study utilized Urie Bronfenbrenner’s (1979, 1986) …

Ecological Insights From Field And Laboratory Studies Of Akashiwo Sanguinea, Alexis L. Pasulka, Matthew J. Harke, Jaden Hansen, Ryan K. Walter, Eva Kokkino

Physics

Blooms of the dinoflagellate Akashiwo sanguinea occur in coastal ecosystems worldwide and can have significant ecological consequences. Along the central California coast, long-term oceanographic and harmful algal bloom observations indicate that A. sanguinea has exhibited seasonal blooms since approximately 2017, coinciding with negative upwelling anomalies and warm, stratified conditions characteristic of late summer and early fall. In laboratory experiments, three A. sanguinea strains isolated from different sites and/or environmental conditions along the central California coast exhibited variation in growth rates, temperature sensitivity, and transcriptional responses. Under the conditions tested in this study, one strain exhibiting higher maximum growth rates and …

Microglial Swell1 Deficiency Drives Male-Specific Seizure Vulnerability But Paradoxical Neuroprotection Through Impaired Phagocytosis, Abhijeet S Barath, Aastha Dheer, Laura Montier, Mekenzie M Peshoff, Emily Dale, Flavia Goche, Thanh Thanh Le Nguyen, Mastura Akter, Fangfang Qi, Dimitrios Kleidonas, Lauren Harris, Sarah A Jewanee, Anthony D Umpierre, Dale B Bosco, Koichiro Haruwaka, Rajan Sah, Long-Jun Wu, Rongzhuo Hua, Tejaswani Datla

The Brown Foundation: Institute of Molecular Medicine

The discovery of genes encoding the volume-regulated anion channel (VRAC) has enabled detailed exploration of its cell type-specific roles in the brain. LRRC8A (SWELL1) is the essential VRAC subunit. We observed seizure-induced, subunit-specific changes in microglial VRAC expression and investigated its function using conditional KO (cKO) of LRRC8A in microglia. SWELL1 cKO mice exhibited a male-specific increase in kainate-induced seizure severity, yet showed paradoxical neuroprotection against seizure-associated neuronal loss. Mechanistically, SWELL1 deletion led to a cell-autonomous reduction in microglial density and decreased release of VRAC-permeable neuroactive metabolites, including taurine, GABA, and glutamate in culture. Additionally, impaired phagocytic kinetics and reduced …

Baghdad Science Journal

This takes a look at ambitions to investigate the two-dimensional flow pattern of fluids in a conductive medium constrained between two parallel horizontal plates under the influence of embedded radiation. The mathematical model is based entirely on the flow equations, including the continuity, momentum, energy, and diffusion equations. The machine is solved numerically the usage of the specific finite difference approach (ADE) to investigate the conduct of drift, temperature, and mass transfer below radiative outcomes. The study specializes in the impact of key dimensionless parameters, including the Reynolds number, Darcy number, Grashof number, Péclet number, radiation parameter, mixed radiation, and …

Transforming Urban Food Systems: Could Food Democracy And Food Citizenship Be Advanced By Personal And Community Impacts Of Co-Production Processes?, Bramble Gardiner, Mary Hickson, Louise Hunt, Amanda Haslam-Lucas, Barbara Diouri, Joanna Ruminska, Laura Dunn, Yve Ashton, Clare Pettinger Jun 2026

Transforming Urban Food Systems: Could Food Democracy And Food Citizenship Be Advanced By Personal And Community Impacts Of Co-Production Processes?, Bramble Gardiner, Mary Hickson, Louise Hunt, Amanda Haslam-Lucas, Barbara Diouri, Joanna Ruminska, Laura Dunn, Yve Ashton, Clare Pettinger

School of Health Professions

For complex challenges like food systems transformation, scholars suggest co-production involving multiple actors including citizens is essential. Additionally, some argue for a transformation towards ‘food democracy’. This vision aims for food system decision making to be shared across diverse actors, and people to move from being consumers to citizens (food citizenship). Urban food policy initiatives are examples of innovation in food democracy and food citizenship, but delivering authentic participation is an ongoing challenge and the impacts on those engaged have rarely been studied. Furthermore, personal transformations are essential for societal transformations and similarly receive minimal focus. The need for development …

Enhancing Teaching Effectiveness Through Professional Development For Part-Time Nursing Faculty, Amanda Moss Jun 2026

Enhancing Teaching Effectiveness Through Professional Development For Part-Time Nursing Faculty, Amanda Moss

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Part-time nursing faculty play a vital role in nursing education; however, many institutions lack standardized professional development opportunities for part-time faculty, resulting in inconsistent preparation and teaching practices. This Doctor of Nursing Practice policy change project examined whether revising an institutional professional development policy to include part-time faculty and implementing a structured faculty development program would improve faculty preparedness, confidence, and comfort with evidence-based teaching practices and instructional strategies that support ACEN faculty development expectations. Guided by the Iowa Model–Revised of Evidence-Based Practice, Kotter’s Organizational Change Theory, and the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) framework, this quantitative policy change project was conducted over …

Sequential Triple Treatment Of Recycled Coarse Aggregates: Mechanical, Durability, And Microstructural Performance Of Concrete With Mechanistic Insights, Ashita Singh, Boksun Kim, Harish Panghal, Sandeep Chaudhary

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

The weak interfacial transition zone (ITZ) and high porosity of recycled coarse aggregates (RCA) limit their use in structural concrete. A sequential triple-treatment: HCl chemical treatment, mechanical abrasion, and cement slurry coating, was developed to densify the ITZ. Testing 198 specimens across six mix designs (0–100% RCA), TTRCA at 25% and 50% retained 92.1% and 87.3% of compressive strength, 93.6% and 87.7% of flexural strength, and 95.6% and 89.9% of splitting tensile strength versus the NCA control. Resistivity reached 81–91% of control; shrinkageremained 8–18% above control. XRD confirmed reduced Ca(OH)2 content with enhanced C–S–H formation; SEM revealed reduced ITZ porosity. …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Zinc Oxide (Zno) Nanoparticles: From Chemical To Green Synthesis, Kawa S. Sulaiman, Ayoub S. Karim

Baghdad Science Journal

The present research focuses on the synthesis and comparative analysis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) produced through two distinct methodologies: a traditional sol-gel procedure and a sustainable green synthesis route. The green synthesis approach utilized Laurus Nobilis leaf extract as a natural reducing and stabilizing agent, offering an eco-friendly alternative to conventional chemical synthesis. To evaluate the structural, optical, and morphological properties of the resulting nanoparticles, both sets of samples were characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy, XRD, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), FTIR, and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). The XRD patterns confirmed the successful formation of a hexagonal wurtzite …

Coefficient Bounds For A New Subclass Of Meromorphic Multivalent Functions With Higher Derivatives Obtained From Bessel Function, Ali Musaddak Delphi Jun 2026

Coefficient Bounds For A New Subclass Of Meromorphic Multivalent Functions With Higher Derivatives Obtained From Bessel Function, Ali Musaddak Delphi

Baghdad Science Journal

The goal of this paper is to introduce a new subclass of meromorphic multivalent functions with higher derivatives inside a punctured open unit disk U*, by generalizing the Bessel function. The method used to derive the new findings on this topic is stated in section two of this paper. The product theorem between two functions and neighborhood properties was obtained using the recently discovered coefficient bounds for the new subclass. In addition, this paper attempted to address an important research gap in the subject of geometric function theory, which is the computational tools for coefficient bounds through the use …

Evaluation Of Home Loan Candidates Using Energy And Laplacian Energy In Hesitancy Fuzzy Zagreb Matrices, A. Abinaya, G. Deepa Jun 2026

Evaluation Of Home Loan Candidates Using Energy And Laplacian Energy In Hesitancy Fuzzy Zagreb Matrices, A. Abinaya, G. Deepa

Baghdad Science Journal

A hesitancy fuzzy graph is a type of generalized fuzzy graphs that reflects reluctance or uncertainty in interactions by assigning a variety of potential membership values rather than a single value to each vertex and edge. It offers an adaptable framework for simulating intricate systems with ambiguous, reluctant, or imperfect input. Topological measurements that capture and characterize a graph's structural features are called Zagreb indices, and they are obtained from vertex degrees. Although Zagreb indices and graph energies have been studied for intuitionistic fuzzy graphs, fuzzy graphs, and classical graphs, no work has been done to apply these ideas to …

Quasi-Mixing C0-Semigroups And Their Relations With Recurrent C0-Semigroups, Mansooreh Moosapoor, Otmane Benchiheb Jun 2026

Quasi-Mixing C0-Semigroups And Their Relations With Recurrent C0-Semigroups, Mansooreh Moosapoor, Otmane Benchiheb

Baghdad Science Journal

This article presents and investigates the concept of the quasi-mixing C0-semigroups. It is proved that the quasi-mixing of an invertible C0-semigroup is equivalent to the quasi-mixing of its inverse. The quasi-mixing vectors are defined and they are used to prove a sufficient condition for the quasi-mixing. It is established that the quasi-mixing of a C0-semigroup is equivalent to the quasi-mixing of any of its discretizations. The quasi-mixing of a C0-semigroup ( Tt )t ≥ 0, as it is demonstrated by this study, implies the quasi-mixing for each operator T …

Approximation In S-Normed Orlicz Spaces, Zainab Abdulmunim Sharba, Hawraa Abbas Almurieb, Samah Alhashemi

Baghdad Science Journal

Orlicz spaces generalize conventional Lebesgue spaces, providing a more flexible framework for analyzing functions. They are essential to functional analysis and related fields, particularly in approximation theory. This paper defines an Orlicz normed space equipped with an S-norm, where S is an outer function that satisfies certain conditions. Introducing norms via the outer function S is a general method that encompasses many cases of norms in Orlicz spaces. The relationship between S-norm and other norms on Orlicz spaces is established through several equivalences. Moreover, moduli of smoothness are of great interest in approximation theory, as they provide criteria …

Digraph And Graph Of Regular Rings With Some Properties, Shahla Moayad Kaleel, Haitham Nashwan Mohammed, Ahmad Mohammed Alghamdi, Ahmed Mohammed Ali, Eman Sultan Almotairi

Baghdad Science Journal

During this century, a new research trend has emerged wherein algebraic concepts are combined with graph theory, such as zero divisors, clean rings, ideals, and regular rings. Continuing this trajectory, the regular ring graph has been studied in two forms: the undirected graph and the directed graph. The vertex set consists of all regular elements in the ring ℜ, denoted by ℜ(ℜ), where the undirected graph is denoted by Γ(ℜ(ℜ)) and the directed graph by Ψ(ℜ(ℜ)). This study focuses on the rings Zn, where n = q, q², or 2q, and q is a prime number. In …

A Compass For The Forest: Curriculum Opportunities In A Post-Liaison World, Meghan Otoupalik, Erica Defrain

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Presentations

This poster highlights a project that reimagines what library instruction, faculty partnerships, and student impact looks like following the transition away from a liaison librarian model. Looking at the academic institution’s general education program’s learning outcomes that all undergraduates must complete, we found Information Literacy (IL) was already built into this multi-disciplinary program. The library was given access to the university’s repository of participating course documents and syllabi allowing us to analyze how the learning outcomes are being met, and even more insights into how IL is being taught across campus. We began a pilot program for the first of …

An Inf2-Dependent Actin-Mediated Step In Inositol 1,4,5-Trisphosphate Receptor Cluster Formation And Activity, Maite R. Zavala, Amrapali Ghosh, Suresh K. Joseph, Rajarshi Chakrabarti Jun 2026

An Inf2-Dependent Actin-Mediated Step In Inositol 1,4,5-Trisphosphate Receptor Cluster Formation And Activity, Maite R. Zavala, Amrapali Ghosh, Suresh K. Joseph, Rajarshi Chakrabarti

Department of Pathology, Anatomy, and Cell Biology Faculty Papers

Intracellular calcium signaling plays a vital role in regulating various cellular processes including gene regulation, motility, metabolism, and cell death. Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors (IP3Rs) on the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are a major cation channel that regulates stimulus-induced calcium release from the ER. While several molecular players regulate the activity of IP3R, its regulation by actin filaments was uncharacterized. Here, we show that actin filaments polymerized by the specific actin nucleator INF2 facilitate agonist-induced IP3R activity. Our results demonstrate that INF2-mediated actin filaments regulate the formation and/or stability of IP3R clusters on the ER that have been previously shown to be …

System Branding In Three Public Libraries: Live Oak Public Libraries, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, And Richland Library, Patrick Roughen Jun 2026

System Branding In Three Public Libraries: Live Oak Public Libraries, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, And Richland Library, Patrick Roughen

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

This article examines library catalogs as brand artifacts in the context of two ancient libraries: the Library of Alexandria and the library of the Temple of Horus at Edfu, Egypt. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of symbolic capital and brand theory, this research argues that the catalogs of these two institutions functioned as early branding instruments. The Pinakes, the catalog of the Library of Alexandria, projected a brand of universal knowledge and intellectual prestige, and the inscribed wall catalog at Edfu reflected a brand focused on sacred authority and the sustaining of cosmic order (Ma'at).  Together, they illustrate two opposing …

Toolkit For Multistate Disease Progression Simulation And Treatment Decision-Making Aid, Can Xie, Ruosha Li, Wael Saber, Jorge E Cortes, Nicholas J Short, Xuelin Huang

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Background: The optimal timing of a treatment within therapy lines can maximize its benefit while minimizing risks and side effects. Because patients differ in clinical and biological characteristics, personalized treatment planning can support physicians' decision-making. However, multistate disease progression complicates the comparison of treatment strategies, motivating the development of a user-friendly web tool for multistate disease progression simulation and treatment decision support. Microsimulation is a natural approach for comparing prespecified treatment-timing strategies, where it generates disease trajectories for a large number of virtual patients matched to an individual patient's observed data. In our framework, microsimulation is performed using a multistate …
