Trauma Counseling and Resilience

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, our partners in a Central American immigrant enclave reported an increasing need to support parents and children whose mental health was negatively impacted by the confluence of underlying systemic stressors and traumatic experiences. Using our existing family-centered participatory action research (FCPAR; Letiecq, Vesely, et al., 2022) approach and guided by the transcreation model (Nápoles & Stewart, 2018), we co-constructed a mental health intervention in partnership with community members, via our community advisory board (CAB). Essential to this process was building the intervention with the community, ensuring that it was culturally and contextually grounded …

Provenance-Conditional Arbitration For Self-Supervised Nli Dataset Construction From Regulatory Corpora (Accounting/Tax Domain), Miseong Shawn Kim Mr. Aug 2026

Provenance-Conditional Arbitration For Self-Supervised Nli Dataset Construction From Regulatory Corpora (Accounting/Tax Domain), Miseong Shawn Kim Mr.

Defensive Publications Series

We disclose a method for automatically constructing and validating Natural Language Inference (NLI) training pairs from unlabeled regulatory corpora in the accounting and tax domain (e.g., accounting standards, standard-setter Q&A, tax rulings, tax-tribunal decisions, audit opinions, regulatory-filing notes). The core is a provenance-conditional arbitration rule that assigns label adoption authority according to the source type of each pair, combined with asymmetric agreement thresholds, structure-relation label derivation, domain antonym contradiction synthesis, and numeric-equivalence pair generation. Publishing this defensively secures freedom to operate and blocks third-party patents on the technique.

System And Method For Green Energy-Aware Traffic Engineering Path Computation, Rajeev Anand, Abhishek Garg, Jaiesh Thapar Aug 2026

System And Method For Green Energy-Aware Traffic Engineering Path Computation, Rajeev Anand, Abhishek Garg, Jaiesh Thapar

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure presents a distributed control-plane mechanism that enables green energy-aware Traffic Engineering (TE) path computation in IS-IS and OSPF-TE networks. A router configured as renewable-energy-powered advertises a new Green Energy Capability sub-TLV in its TE advertisements. Routers in the same IGP domain learn this attribute and build a green-aware topology map. A tunnel-level policy can then constrain TE path computation to green-enabled nodes only. The mechanism is backward compatible and does not require an external controller.

Phantoms Of The Self: An Art Installation On The Commodification Of Anik-Anik Culture, Vito Lomod, Minuet Deniña, Jaihzel Failana, Joshua R. Marcial

DLSU Arts Congress Conference Proceedings

The practice of anik-anik culture remains relevant and prominent among Filipinos, especially among Gen Z. Decorating, collecting, and preserving miscellaneous items as an extension of one’s identity and memory exemplifies the Filipino maximalist aesthetic. In context, Filipinos are naturally inclined to be maximalists, driven by the desire to connect and the tendency to fill empty spaces, hence the aesthetic of Filipino maximalism. Usually, this is evidenced in, but not limited to, consumption and fashion practices. Correspondingly, its current practices have also sparked discussions about the effects of consumerism and the dilution of the origins of anik-anik, which is deeply rooted …

“Shh!” Bleaching As An Auto-Destructive Art Method Of Representing The Silencing Of Women, Kristelle Tenero De Leon Aug 2026

“Shh!” Bleaching As An Auto-Destructive Art Method Of Representing The Silencing Of Women, Kristelle Tenero De Leon

DLSU Arts Congress Conference Proceedings

This paper discusses the artistic representation of the muffling of women’s voices and the culture of silence through a theoretically auto-destructive method of artmaking—bleaching using mark-making on textile. Through studio art research, the reductive and erasing properties of bleaching agents are used by bleaching printed images of women in fabric to metaphorically represent and articulate the existence of silencing imposed upon women. Guided by the lens of feminism and Gustav Merger’s manifesto of auto-destructive art, this work presents the artistic images of 13 women across Philippine history—from the babaylans to Maria Ressa—on textile, imbued with bleaching effects. Moreover, the work …

Indigenous Pedagogies As An Arts-Based Framework For Education 4.0, Andylyn Simeon Aug 2026

Indigenous Pedagogies As An Arts-Based Framework For Education 4.0, Andylyn Simeon

DLSU Arts Congress Conference Proceedings

While Education 4.0 promises to cultivate 21st-century skills like creativity and critical thinking, the reality often falls short. Current frameworks are heavily technocentric, prioritizing digital tools and measurable data over the communal, emotional, and spiritual depth that true learning requires. This paper argues that we can restore balance to this digital shift by looking toward Indigenous Pedagogies (IPs). Far from being “obsolete” relics of the past, these are sophisticated, arts-based systems rooted in storytelling, ritual, and land-based creation that can offer a creative blueprint for the human-centered goals that Education 4.0 claims to value. Through a qualitative synthesis, I deconstruct …

Urinary Antimony As A Biomarker For Differentiating Heroin And Brown Mixture Use, Shu-Mei Tsai, Yu-Han Hsiao, Yan-Zin Chang, Sai-Wai Ho Aug 2026

Urinary Antimony As A Biomarker For Differentiating Heroin And Brown Mixture Use, Shu-Mei Tsai, Yu-Han Hsiao, Yan-Zin Chang, Sai-Wai Ho

Journal of Food and Drug Analysis

Heroin is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance with severe legal consequences for its use, whereas liquid Brown Mixture (BM) is a legally available and commonly prescribed cough remedy in Taiwan. However, numerous cases of BM ingestion have been misinterpreted as heroin use because BM contains opium tincture, leading to similar urine test results. Owing to the rapid metabolism of heroin, detection of the parent drug and its primary metabolite, 6-acetylmorphine, in urine is difficult; thus, interpretation often relies on morphine concentration and the morphine-to-codeine (M/C) ratio, which can be inconclusive. In our BM analysis, the M/C ratio was …

Large-Scale Asymptotics In Fixed-Sample And Sequential Multiple Testing, Rahul Roy

Doctoral Theses

The advent of large-scale data acquisition technologies has led to the routine emergence of massive, dynamically evolving datasets. This has created a pressing need for statistical methodologies capable of operating effectively in both static and sequential data environments. Multiple hypotheses testing, a central tool in such settings, must therefore be adapted to both fixed-sample and sequential frameworks to ensure effective decision-making while controlling error rates. This thesis comprises two main parts. The first part addresses fixed-sample multiple testing under dependence in a Bayesian framework. Building upon the two-group mixture normal model of Bogdan et al. (2011), we extend their methodology …

Reduced order modeling can allow for design optimization at a fraction of the computational cost. This paper investigates the amount of training data required to produce an accurate Reduced Order Model. A PCA based ROM is developed and compared to a Sequential Fusion DeepONet by comparing model prediction accuracy, training time, and prediction time, across dataset sizes from 25 samples to 1024 samples. These models are applied to 2D hypersonic CFD simulations of the Orion reentry …

Resonant Shock Plate Simulation And Prediction Using Modal Substructuring, Harrison C. Denning Aug 2026

Resonant Shock Plate Simulation And Prediction Using Modal Substructuring, Harrison C. Denning

Theses and Dissertations

Aerospace structures such as rockets can experience various shock events during flight, such as stage separation or impacts. These shock events can expose components inside the rocket to large accelerations and stresses which in turn can damage the parts. Shocks are often simulated in the lab using a resonant shock plate test. Resonant shock plate testing is often used to qualify aerospace parts, as it can mimic the shocks experienced during launch and stage separations. However, during the course of development, both the definition of the shock environment and the design of the subcomponent tend to change, so that multiple …

Rfsoc Based Ground Penetrating Radar For Detection And Avoidance Of Underground Utilities, Brady Bowerbank

Theses and Dissertations

Preexisting underground utilities present a considerable danger to underground boring projects. Gas and electrical lines can be damaged, leading to major economic impact and even loss of life. While maps of underground utilities exist, they are not always accurate and gas and electrical lines can shift over time, necessitating tools to accurately detect utilities so that crews can steer the machines away from any possible danger. In this thesis, the design of a new frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) ground penetrating radar (GPR) is outlined. The design of a lightweight, flexible radar is demonstrated using the CASPER FPGA framework with an operating …

Dynamind: A Dynamic Learned Index For Update-Intensive Workloads, Jingxian Cheng, Yingfang Wang, Tianqing Zhu, Xu Yang, Ningning Cui, Jianxin Li

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Learned indexes leverage machine learning models to approximate data distributions and predict key positions, offering better performance than traditional index structures such as B+Trees. As data in real-world applications evolve rapidly, the timely and efficient updating of learned indexes has become an increasingly important research problem, attracting growing attention in recent studies. However, under update-intensive workloads with frequent insertions and deletions, existing learned indexes cannot update the model in a timely manner. Moreover, they ignore the impact of deletions on model accuracy. These limitations lead to degraded prediction accuracy and increased query latency, undermining the core advantage of learned indexes. …
