An Integrative Approach To Professionalizing Russian Language Learning And Teaching, Victoria Hasko, Olga Thomason, Alexandra Shapiro
An Integrative Approach To Professionalizing Russian Language Learning And Teaching, Victoria Hasko, Olga Thomason, Alexandra Shapiro
Russian Language Journal
This article proposes an integrative framework for embedding career readiness into advanced Russian language teaching. Drawing on the experience of a U.S. Russian Flagship Program, the authors argue that career readiness requires deliberate programmatic choices: a proficiency level sufficient for meaningful disciplinary engagement and study abroad immersion; a flexible open-architecture curriculum that admits interdisciplinarity into the core of the program; faculty preparation that makes embedded career advising possible; and institutional partnerships that give language work standing in professional contexts. Framed through the Connections standard of the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages, the article positions interdisciplinary engagement not as an enrichment …

Book Review: Dynamic Teaching Of Russian: Games And Gamification Of Learning., Olesia Hubrich
Russian Language Journal
This review examines Dynamic Teaching of Russian: Games and Gamification of Learning, a collection of empirically grounded case studies on integrating games and creative activities into tertiary-level L2 Russian language instruction. The volume highlights the pedagogical value of gamified, student-centered approaches in enhancing linguistic proficiency and affective factors such as motivation, confidence, and engagement. While offering a wide range of innovative teaching practices, the volume also identifies gaps in research, particularly regarding game-based learning and diverse learner populations. Overall, the book is presented as a valuable resource for instructors and researchers seeking to incorporate play and gamification into Russian as …

Russian As A Lingua Franca In A Security Cooperation Context: Designing Career-Oriented Language Training Programs, Daniel Medford
Russian Language Journal
As Slavic language programs seek to align their curricula with workforce needs, the role of Russian and other Slavic languages in military and government service presents unique challenges and opportunities. This paper examines how linguistic training, particularly in Russian, can be better structured for students at American universities and colleges who wish to pursue government and security-related careers. Drawing on 30 interviews with native and non-native Russian speakers serving in the U.S. Army, this study explores the implications of using Russian as a lingua franca for U.S. military cooperation with former Soviet states. Given the political sensitivities surrounding the Russian …

Navigating The Future: Language Learning, Career Readiness, And Professional Identity, Maria Shardakova, Rebecca Cravens
Russian Language Journal
The decline in Russian language enrollments reflects a broader trend of diminishing confidence in higher education, particularly in the humanities and language studies. Many Americans question whether an undergraduate degree effectively prepares students for meaningful careers, fueling skepticism about the value of language programs. Meanwhile, the job market has undergone significant shifts, with fewer lifelong careers and more frequent job transitions. In this evolving landscape, graduates must develop not only professional skills but also career management skills, including the ability to envision career paths, articulate their qualifications to employers, and construct compelling professional narratives. This longitudinal study examines the effectiveness of …

Building An Alumni Network: Strategies And Benefits, Emily Johnson, Elena Carmichael
Russian Language Journal
This article explains how to build an alumni network and describes the benefits of such initiatives. Echoing the 2024 “Report on English Majors’ Career Preparation and Outcomes” prepared by the ADE Ad Hoc Committee on English Majors’ Career Preparation and Outcomes, it argues that providing students with regular opportunities to hear from and interact with program alumni offers tangible benefits in terms of career preparation. By attending Zoom and in-person alumni career talks, students can learn about the diverse range of jobs where language and literature majors can achieve success. The chance to speak one-on-one with an alumnus/alumna with similar …

In this no-grounds/non-renewal holdover, the court dismisses the petition for improper service of the predicate notice, which was served by mail only. The landlord's attorney then filed a frivolous sanctions motion against tenant's counsel, which backfired: the court granted the tenant's cross-motion for sanctions and ordered the landlord's attorney to complete four additional ethics CLE courses.

BackgroundThe project ‘World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Tumours (WCT): a Living Evidence Gap Map by Tumour Type’ applies the Evidence and Gap Map (EGM) methodology to systematically synthesise evidence to support iterative refinements of the WCT. As part of this work, we created the first EGM for the WCT of Urinary and Male Genital Tumors, covering clear cell renal cell carcinoma, non-clear cell renal cell carcinoma, glandular neoplasms of the prostate and urothelial tumours.MethodsSystematic searches in PubMed and Ovid Embase were conducted and harmonised to a 2020 to 2024 publication time period. Following title and abstract screening, reviewers coded …
Synthetic Aperture Radar Ground Moving Target Imaging And Motion Parameter Estimation Using Minimum Entropy Optimization, Adam H. Cohen
Synthetic Aperture Radar Ground Moving Target Imaging And Motion Parameter Estimation Using Minimum Entropy Optimization, Adam H. Cohen
Theses
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging of ground moving targets presents significant challenges due to motion-induced defocus and displacement in single-channel stripmap mode data. This thesis introduces a novel algorithm for ground moving target imaging (GMTIm) and motion parameter estimation using minimum entropy optimization. The algorithm begins by using a technique called aperture lengthening to determine the target’s azimuth velocity (va). Next, particle swarm optimization (PSO) iteratively minimizes image entropy by varying range velocity (vr ), range acceleration (ar ), and azimuth acceleration (aa) to produce focused images. The algorithm outputs the final focused image and the set of motion parameters …

“The Ai Pushed Me To Consider New Perspectives”: Preliminary Observations On A Chatgpt Intervention Designed To Elicit Critical Thinking About Media Headlines, Karina Luna, Chelsea Julian Reynolds, Ali Zain
Journal of Media Literacy Education Pre-Prints
This study explored whether a custom AI chatbot could be a relevant tool for promoting critical thinking about news bias. The research team discusses the development of a custom critical media literacy chatbot and its implementation in an upper-division critical media studies course at a large North American public university. Students interacted with the chatbot to analyze news headlines about transgender issues, employing a scaffolded framework to dissect media framing and generate alternative frames. We argue that the same AI technologies fueling anxiety can be reimagined as partners in cultivating critical media literacy and guiding future directions in journalism pedagogy. …

Serial Radiographic And Ultrasonographic Evaluation Of Discospondylitis In A Cat: A Case Report Of Progressive Vertebral Lysis Despite Clinical Improvement, Geunah Kim, Jungho Lee, Seulgi Bae, Sang-Kwon Lee, Kija Lee
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
A 10-year-old castrated male Korean Shorthair cat was presented with a 5-day history of lethargy and nonambulatory paraparesis. Neurological examination revealed delayed postural reactions in both pelvic limbs. Initial radiography of the lumbar spine revealed narrowing of the L7–S1 intervertebral disc space with ventral bony proliferation. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed collapse of the L7–S1 intervertebral disc space with heterogeneous T2-weighted hyperintensity and ventral contrast enhancement of the affected disc, as well as contrast enhancement of the adjacent paraspinal musculature. These findings suggested the presence of discospondylitis. Coccoid bacteria detected in both urine and splenic fine-needle aspirate indicated hematogenous spread. The …

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Background: The perimenopausal period, typically occurring between the ages of 40 and 55 years, represents a critical transitional stage in women’s physiology characterized by profound hormonal, metabolic, and systemic adaptations. While the endocrine aspects of this transition have been extensively investigated, increasing attention has recently been directed toward the role of micronutrient homeostasis in maintaining metabolic health and physical performance during this period. Therefore, the aim of this narrative review is to summarize current knowledge regarding microelement deficiencies in perimenopausal women and their potential impact on metabolic health and physical performance. Additionally, the review discusses the potential applications of VIS–NIR …
