Improving Multilingual Llm Language Adherence Via Language Signals And Fine-Tuning, Kandarp Joshi, Clint Kim, Petar Aleksic, Lillian Zhou

Defensive Publications Series

Multilingual large language models (LLMs) are capable of delivering responses to user queries/ prompts, including spoken queries (where the language of the audio may be ambiguous), in various languages. In many contexts, it is important that the response from the multilingual LLM adhere to a pre-configured/ specified language. This disclosure describes three approaches to improve the language adherence of an LLM - zero shot prompting, supervised fine-tuning, and chain-of-thought reasoning. In zero short prompting, a language hint that specifies the languages known to the user is provided to the LLM along with the input audio. In supervised fine-tuning, a training …

Abstract: Background: Tapentadol is an atypical opioid with a dual mechanism as a mu agonist and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. This study characterized tapentadol use in the United States (US) using three databases. Methods: Drug distribution data from 2010 to 2020 were extracted from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)’s Automated Reports and Consolidated Orders System (ARCOS), including use per region (mg/person) and business activity (i.e., pharmacy). Tapentadol prescription claims from the Medicare and Medicaid programs for 2010–2020 were also examined. Results: The distributed amount of tapentadol was 3.5 tons in 2020. Distribution was over twice as high in southern (South Atlantic …

How The United States Has Failed To Enact Competitive And Stable Energy Policy Through Federalism, Matthew James Marcaccio May 2025

How The United States Has Failed To Enact Competitive And Stable Energy Policy Through Federalism, Matthew James Marcaccio

Washington Semester Program

This research focuses on the effects of energy policy in the United States. Because of the impacts of energy production and transmissions emissions, energy policy has become synonymous with climate policy. As such, there seems to be two schools of thought regarding energy policy. On the one hand, “green” energy policies have been endorsed for their potential to reduce carbon emissions and dependence on non-renewable resources. On the other, continuing to use legacy energy sources, namely fossil fuels, has been endorsed for its affordability and ease of use through existing infrastructure. At the federal level, green policies have been embraced …

Pointwise Slant Riemannian Maps From Almost Contact Metric Manifolds With Horizontal Reeb Vector Field ˆΞ, Ramazan Demi̇r, Cumali̇ Yildirim May 2025

Pointwise Slant Riemannian Maps From Almost Contact Metric Manifolds With Horizontal Reeb Vector Field ˆΞ, Ramazan Demi̇r, Cumali̇ Yildirim

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

This paper introduces the notion of pointwise slant Riemannian maps, which extend the concept of slant submanifolds, pointwise slant submanifolds, slant submersions, pointwise slant submersions, and slant Riemannian maps. These maps are defined from almost contact metric manifolds to Riemannian manifolds with horizontal Reeb vektor field . Furthermore, we present examples and investigate the fundamental properties of such maps. Also we explore the geometry of the foliations induced by pointwise slant Riemannian maps and establish decomposition theorems related to their existence.

On The Invariant Integration Of A Vector In Some Problems In Mechanics, Saad Bin Mansoor May 2025

On The Invariant Integration Of A Vector In Some Problems In Mechanics, Saad Bin Mansoor

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Invariant integration of vectors and tensors over manifolds was introduced around fifty years ago by V.N. Folomeshkin, though the concept appears to not have attracted much attention among researchers. Although it is a sophisticated concept, the operation of the invariant integration of vectors is actually required to correctly solve some problems in mechanics. Two such problems are discussed in the present exposition, in the context of a two-dimensional Euclidean space covered by a polar coordinate system. The notion of invariant integration becomes necessary when the space is described without any reference to a Cartesian coordinate system.

On Cesàro And Abel-Poisson Means Of Hexagonal Fourier Series, Ali̇ Güven May 2025

On Cesàro And Abel-Poisson Means Of Hexagonal Fourier Series, Ali̇ Güven

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Approximation properties of Ces`aro and Abel-Poisson means of hexagonal Fourier series are studied. The degree of approximation by these means of hexagonal Fourier series of functions, which are continuous and periodic with respect to the hexagon lattice, is estimated in terms of modulus of continuity of functions.

The Concept Of T-Basis And Vector-Valued Hardy Classes, Bilal Bilalov, Sabina Rahib Sadigova May 2025

The Concept Of T-Basis And Vector-Valued Hardy Classes, Bilal Bilalov, Sabina Rahib Sadigova

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

This paper introduces the concept of a t-basis generated by some bilinear mapping t(·;·). It is considered the vector-valued class Lp(X) := Lp(J; X), 1 ≤ p < +∞, where J = [−π, π] and X is a Banach space with the UMD property, and it is proven that the classical system of exponents {eint}n∈ℤ forms a t-basis for Lp(X), 1 < p < +∞. Using this fact, the Hardy vector classes nHp±(X), 1 < p < +∞, different from the classical ones, are defined, and an equivalent definition of these classes is given and some of their properties are studied. In addition, the concept of t-Riesz property of a system of exponentials is introduced in Lp(X), 1 < p < +∞, and it is proved that this system has the t-Riesz property. A new method is given for establishing the Plemelj–Sokhotski formulas for X-valued Cauchy type integrals when X has the UMD property. An abstract analogue of the “1/4-Kadets” theorem is obtained for …

On The Images Of N-Ellipses Under The Möbius Transformations, Ni̇hal Özgür

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we examine the images of n-ellipses under the Möbius transformations (linear fractional transformations) for n ≥ 3. As a result of this investigation, we present a new and generalized version (called n-generalized Apollonius circle) of the concept of an Apollonius circle in the plane.

On Cr-Structures On The Null Tangent Bundle, Mohamed Tahar Kadaoui Abbassi, Cornelia-Livia Bejan, Khadija Boulagouaz May 2025

On Cr-Structures On The Null Tangent Bundle, Mohamed Tahar Kadaoui Abbassi, Cornelia-Livia Bejan, Khadija Boulagouaz

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The null tangent bundle of an indefinite pseudo-Riemannian manifold is a lightlike hypersurface of the tangent bundle which inherits a CR-structure from the almost Hermitian structure defined by Oproiu on the tangent bundle. We investigate the properties of this structure in relation to the choice of the screen distribution and the geometry of the base manifold.

Lancret-Type Results For A New Family Of Curves In Minkowski 3-Space, Héctor Guerrero Mora, Willy Sierra May 2025

Lancret-Type Results For A New Family Of Curves In Minkowski 3-Space, Héctor Guerrero Mora, Willy Sierra

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this article, using the concept of a Killing vector field along a curve, we extend certain results concerning a family of curves—previously studied in three-dimensional Euclidean space—to the setting of three-dimensional Minkowski space. Depending on the causal character of the curve, we derive Lancret-type results that establish the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of this family in three-dimensional Minkowski space. We determine the intrinsic equation of this family in three cases: (i) when the curve is nonnull with a nonnull acceleration vector, (ii) when the curve is spacelike with a null acceleration vector, and (iii) when the …

Geometry Of Conformally Flat Harmonic Nearly Trans-Sasakian Manifolds, Aligadzhi Rabadanovich Rustanov, Svetlana Vladimirovna Kharitonova May 2025

Geometry Of Conformally Flat Harmonic Nearly Trans-Sasakian Manifolds, Aligadzhi Rabadanovich Rustanov, Svetlana Vladimirovna Kharitonova

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Conformally flat harmonic nearly trans-Sasakian manifolds are studied. In the space of adjoint G-structure, components of the Weyl tensor of the conformal curvature are calculated, identities for this tensor are found, and also some conformal invariants of harmonic nearly trans-Sasakian manifold are provided. An exhaustive description of the class W1 of such manifolds is obtained. It is proved that this class is locally equivalent to the product of a complex Euclidean space and a real line. Complete local characteristic of harmonic nearly trans-Sasakian manifolds of the class W6, which are Einstein manifolds, is obtained. Full classification of conformally flat harmonic …

Tropical Forest Soil Microbiome Modulates Leaf Heat Tolerance More Strongly Under Warming Than Ambient Conditions, Gabriela Hernandes Villani, Iana F. Grullón-Penkova, Parker Bartz, Joel Masanga, Jesse R. Lasky, Molly A. Cavaleri, Tana E. Wood, Benedicte Bachelot May 2025

Tropical Forest Soil Microbiome Modulates Leaf Heat Tolerance More Strongly Under Warming Than Ambient Conditions, Gabriela Hernandes Villani, Iana F. Grullón-Penkova, Parker Bartz, Joel Masanga, Jesse R. Lasky, Molly A. Cavaleri, Tana E. Wood, Benedicte Bachelot

Michigan Tech Publications

It is unclear how plants respond to increasing temperatures. Leaf heat tolerance (LHT) is often at its upper limit in tropical forests, suggesting that climate change might negatively impact these forests. We hypothesized that intraspecific variation in LHT might be associated with changes in the soil microbiome, which might also respond to climate. We hypothesized that warming would increase LHT through changes in the soil microbiome: we combined an in situ tropical warming experiment with a shade house experiment in Puerto Rico. The shade house experiment consisted of growing seedlings of Guarea guidonia, a dominant forest species, under different soil …
