While Vienna is often presented as a utopia for social sustainability, the urban developments after the turn of the century have revealed the variegated nature of Neoliberalization. Since the fall of the USSR, Vienna has privatized municipal bodies and engaged with financialized urban development projects. While this Neoliberalized urban governance approach has met with resistance, the resistance ironically has also enabled the city to capitalize on its social-welfarist past. Vienna nowadays brands itself as a sustainable and livable city for corporations, which leads to land assetization and new economic segregation.

Background: Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) was the original mode of transplantation (e.g., first lung transplant in 1963 and first heart transplant in 1967) (1,2) but was largely abandoned post-1968 following the Harvard brain-death criteria (3). Recently, Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP) has renewed interest in DCD by mitigating warm ischemic injury. However, Certified Clinical Perfusionists (CCPs), who manage the extracorporeal circuits essential for NRP, remain largely overlooked or underrepresented in protocols and literature, even though they are, according to the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP), the only professionals “formally educated and trained in adult and pediatric extracorporeal technology” (4). …

Fatigue, Recovery, And The Economics Of Remote Work, María Sáez Martí

I propose a model in which workers experience fatigue over time and can restore productivity by taking breaks. Optimal schedules feature evenly spaced, full-recovery breaks; when breaks are costless, they should occur frequently, but switching costs make the optimal number finite. The model is embedded in a principal-agent framework with contractual frictions. When employers control the schedule, workers overwork; when workers self-manage, they overrest. Both lead to inefficiencies. These results shed light on the trade-offs in remote work arrangements, especially following COVID-19. Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) is an inherited stress-induced arrhythmogenic disease often caused by point variants in the cardiac ryanodine receptor (RyR2) that enhance diastolic sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) Ca2+ leak. These RyR2 variants cluster in three hot-spots (N-terminal, central and C-terminal domains). We previously demonstrated a pathologic diastolic RyR2 conformation in heart failure, oxidative stress and CaMKII phosphorylation exhibiting a trilogy of effects: (1) reduced calmodulin (CaM)-RyR2 affinity, (2) enhanced unzipping peptide (DPc10) binding and (3) elevated diastolic SR Ca2+ leak that are dantrolene-sensitive. Background/Objectives: Disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI), characterized by chronic abdominal pain and significant disability, affect 15-20% of children and adults and continue into adulthood in ~60% of cases. Costs for adults reach USD 30 billion per year, yet effective management strategies are elusive. Studies support using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but abdominal pain only improves in ~40% of patients. Dietary management (low FODMAP diet; LFD) has also shown promise but it is effective in only a similar percentage of patients. Efficiency is essential to support responsiveness w.r.t. ever-growing datasets, especially for Deep Learning (DL) systems. DL frameworks have traditionally embraced deferred execution-style DL code—supporting symbolic, graph-based Deep Neural Network (DNN) computation. While scalable, such development is error-prone, non-intuitive, and difficult to debug. Consequently, more natural, imperative DL frameworks encouraging eager execution have emerged but at the expense of run-time performance. Though hybrid approaches aim for the “best of both worlds,” using them effectively requires subtle considerations to make code amenable to safe, accurate, and efficient graph execution—avoiding performance bottlenecks and semantically inequivalent results. The mitochondrial phosphate carrier (mPiC), encoded by the nuclear gene SLC25A3, is synthesized with an N-terminus mitochondrial targeting sequence (MTS), enabling its import into the mitochondria. mPiC imports inorganic phosphate (P_i) into the mitochondrial matrix for ATP production and other matrix phosphorylation reactions, as well as regulates mitochondrial Ca²⁺ uptake and buffering of matrix Ca²⁺. PiC also imports copper (Cu), crucial to COX subunit holoenzyme assembly. Underuse of healthcare services by Blacks, who receive fewer influenza vaccinations than Whites in New York, has resulted in elevated health complications and increased healthcare costs. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to determine if there is an association between race and insurance status with length of inpatient stay and total charges. Theoretical frameworks were the Quality, Cost, and Health Model and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Triple Aim framework. The following thesis examines how socioeconomic factors, specifically location, education, income, and social capital, affect access to and success within the dance industry in the United States. While talent is viewed as the primary driver of success in dance, this research reveals that structural inequities shape career opportunities and outcomes for dancers. This paper analyzes the CEO to minimum wage compensation ratio between 2010-2023 in the United States. By assessing reported compensation of 30 certain disciplined U.S. publicly traded companies in the 2023 Fortune 500 and with total compensation for CEOs disclosed through the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings (DEF 14A), a comparative ratio and significance study adjusted for inflation occurs. While average CEO compensation remained consistent in real value, the average CEO to minimum wage compensation ratio was above 1,000:1 for a majority of the companies and over 2,000:1 for a select few by 2023. Coparents and partners of African American mothers are critical in the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding and influence a woman’s decision to breastfeed. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experience of coparents/partners of African American mothers participating in breastfeeding education and its impact on the support they provide. Bandura’s social cognitive theory provided the theoretical foundation for this study. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with 11 participants. This qualitative phenomenological study explored probation officers’ perceptions of the economic barriers that prevent probationers in Eastern North Carolina from successfully completing probation. Challenges such as unemployment, financial sanctions, housing instability, and debt were identified as key obstacles contributing to noncompliance and recidivism. Grounded in Merton’s Strain Theory, the study addressed a gap in research by focusing on the experiences of officers who directly supervise probationers facing economic hardship. Exposure to intimate partner violence (IPV) is widespread in childhood, but it is generally higher among African American children. Extensive qualitative analyses to understand the experiences of youth who have experienced IPV have suggested that help-seeking is vital to the survival rate of African American women. We report the complete genome sequences of four parechovirus-A3 (PeV-A3) isolates from Children's Mercy Kansas City (CMKC), United States of America (USA): PeV-A3-MO-12-CMKC/CSF/MO/USA/2012 (isolated in 2012 from cerebrospinal fluid), PeV-A3-8C-CMKC/CSF/MO/USA/2022/ (isolated in 2022 from cerebrospinal fluid), PeV-A3-9C-CMKC/CSF/MO/USA/2022 (isolated in 2022 from cerebrospinal fluid), and PeV-A3-11B-CMKC/Blood/MO/USA/2022 (isolated in 2022 from blood). Sequence analysis revealed multiple mutations throughout the genome of the PeV-A3 isolates in comparison to the prototypic PeV-A3 A308/99 reference sequence (AB084913). Several unique amino acid changes were observed in the PeV-A3 isolates from 2022 that were absent in the PeV-A3 isolate from 2012. Phylogenetic analysis comparison determined that the …
