Quaternary carbonate strandplains serve as archives of land–sea interaction, including the impacts of storms and tsunamis. Incipient lithification, especially of compound beach/dune ridges within the action zone of salt spray, presents challenges to geological research, which is often limited to exposures. This study combines aerial image analysis with geophysical datasets to assess the morphostratigraphy and internal structure of the Freedom Beach Strandplain along southern Eleuthera Island, The Bahamas. Color-intensity analysis of field photographs and satellite images revealed general patterns that can be used to distinguish between areas with different grayscale parameters (sand-covered surfaces, lithified ridges, vegetation, etc.). We develop distributed robotics algorithms with analytical tools needed to define and analyze angle turned and distance traversed by robots executing geometric algorithms. We then use these analytical tools to obtain information, via sensor measurements, about an a priori unknown surface. Our contributions are threefold. First, we develop the Sketch Algorithm, which estimates the boundary of any unknown contour and is asymptotically optimal in terms of distance traversed and angle turned. Purpose of Review: Football players are at an increased risk for posterior shoulder instability compared to other sports due to certain sport-specific motions that involve posteriorly directed force on the shoulder in a vulnerable position. Management of posterior instability, both nonoperative and operative, is aimed at preventing recurrent instability. Regardless of treatment, timing of return to play revolves around avoiding reinjury and prioritizing player safety. This article provides a review of the current treatment modalities of posterior shoulder instability and the return to play criteria that must be met prior to releasing the player to competition. PURPOSE: Sports-related concussion (SRC) cases have increased among children in the last decade. Differences in concussion symptoms, presentation, and follow-up care exist when comparing demographics. The aim of this study was to explore SRC within the pediatric population. METHODS: A retrospective chart review of patients ≤ 18 years old diagnosed with SRC at a New Orleans stand-alone children's hospital from January 2007 to December 2021 was performed. OBJECTIVE: Vestibular schwannoma (VS) management with stereotactic radiation previously only included stereotactic radiosurgery with Gamma Knife (GKRS) or LINAC-based radiotherapy (LBR). Hypofractionated Gamma Knife radiotherapy (hfGKRS) is a novel protocol potentially producing less toxicity than the alternatives. This study examines early results in tumor control, complications and hearing preservation outcomes in a consecutive series of VS patients treated with hfGKRS. In an effort to reduce reliance on opioids for the treatment of pain in the clinic, ongoing work is testing the utility of cannabinoid drugs as a potential alternative for treatment of chronic pain. We tested chronic delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) vapor inhalation effects on intrinsic and synaptic properties of ventrolateral periaqueductal gray (vlPAG) neurons in male and female rats treated with complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA). We report that chronic THC vapor inhalation modulates intrinsic and synaptic properties of vlPAG neurons, including reductions in action potential firing rate and spontaneous inhibitory synaptic transmission in males, and that these effects occur specifically …

Yet serious misconduct incidents continued to occur that strain the relationship between the public and police, including the government serving both entities. The New York Police Department was the largest city police force in the United States, with approximately 33,475 full-time sworn officers, and in 2023, New York City (NYC) paid $298 million in settlements related to claims against police officers. Psychopathy is a multidimensional personality construct traditionally studied in offender populations but increasingly recognized in high-functioning, nonclinical groups. This study examined the expression of psychopathic traits—Fearless Dominance, Self-Centered Impulsivity, and Coldheartedness—among legal professionals at various career stages, including pre-law students, law students, and practicing attorneys. Using the Psychopathic Personality Inventory–Revised (PPI-R) alongside validated measures of related constructs (e.g., narcissism, aggression, affect, behavioral activation/inhibition), the study assessed trait distribution, construct validity, and contextual influences in a sample of 82 participants. This research examines the presence and concentration of selected PFAS compounds in human hair samples from volunteers in New York, comparing these results with global trends found in peer-reviewed research. Hair was selected as the biological matrix for its non-invasive collection method, ability to reflect exposure, and long-term chemical stability. This study explores American Sign Language (ASL) teachers’ beliefs and experiences, and how they influence their instructional approaches and goals for their students. Despite ASL’s growing presence in education as a world language, minimal research has examined ASL teachers’ perspectives and how they shape classroom practices. Through semi-structured interviews, six ASL teachers – three Deaf and three hearing – this research identified four major themes: challenges teachers face in the classroom, cultural takeaways, best teaching practices, and persistent systemic issues affecting ASL’s status in education. Introduction: Catheter-mediated (Dotter) angioplasty has been previously described for extracranial/peripheral arteries. Tenzing (Route 92 Medical, San Mateo, California, USA), a shelf-reducing delivery catheter, has an atraumatic tapered distal tip that progressively enlarges to maximal outer diameter of 1.2 mm (Tenzing 5), 1.6 mm (Tenzing 7), and 2.1 mm (Tenzing 8).

Molecular chaperones play a central role in maintaining protein homeostasis. The highly conserved Hsp70 family of chaperones have major functions in folding of nascent peptides, protein refolding, and protein aggregate disassembly. In yeast, loss of two Hsp70 proteins, Ssa1 and Ssa2, is associated with decreased cellular growth and shortened lifespan. While heterologous or mutant temperature-sensitive proteins form anomalous large cytoplasmic inclusions in ssa1Δssa2Δ strains, it is unclear how endogenous wild-type proteins behave and are regulated in the presence of limiting Hsp70s. The effectiveness of immunotherapy and targeted therapy has been well established in metastatic renal cell cancer (mRCC). These therapies demonstrated higher overall response rates and led to prolonged survival. In contrast, in localized RCC, conventional treatment is either partial or complete nephrectomy. While surgery is a curative option in early stages, high recurrence rates remain a concern, with survival rates ranging from 53% to 85%, depending on the initial stage at the time of diagnosis. The problem addressed in this study was the high middle school teacher turnover in an urban school district (USD, a pseudonym) in Georgia, despite the implementation of coaching programs for novice teachers.
