75 | Cana Of Galilee: Excavations At Karm Er-Ras 1999–2011, Yardenna Alexandre

IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority

This volume describes the results of multiple small-scale salvage excavations that took place at the site of Karm er-Ras in the Lower Galilee between 1999 and 2011. Archaeological remains of ten strata were revealed, dating from Iron Age II to the Byzantine period, including architecture, pottery, glass, coins and special finds. The archaeological data reveals the history of settlement of this site, and its changing ethnic and religious affinities over some 1500 years. Following detailed analysis of the archaeological data and the literary sources, the author argues for the identification of the Roman-period village at Karm er-Ras with ‘Cana of …

Track And Control: Self-Monitoring Blood Glucose (Smbg) Kit With Nurse Practitioner Guidance, Sandra L. Herrera

Cohort XIII

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a metabolic chronic illness that affects millions of people in the United States. Management of the disease can be complex for patients due to multiple factors, including a lack of routine monitoring of glycemic levels and a lack of professional guidance, which often leads to poor glycemic control and long-term complications. The purpose of this Quality Improvement (QI) Project is to implement Self-Monitoring Blood Glucose (SMBG) with a daily blood glucose log and bi-weekly nurse practitioner (NP) follow-ups. The intervention aims to reduce hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels. The foundation of this QI project is on …

Investigation Of Endotracheal Tube Versus Laryngeal Mask Airway Emergence Times For Surgical Patients., Samir M Patel, Rayyan Bhutta, Michelle Pershing, John Dillis, John O Elliott, Matthias J Franzen

OhioHealth Research Institute Articles

During surgical procedures requiring general anesthesia, an airway device is often placed to allow for adequate ventilation of the patient. Most commonly, endotracheal tubes (ETTs) or laryngeal mask airways (LMAs) are placed by the anesthesia provider. The difference between these two methods of ventilation is based on the location; ETTs pass through the glottis into the trachea, whereas the LMA sits above the glottis. This difference in placement may lend benefit to LMAs over ETTs, one of which includes a faster removal of the airway device. That is, after the surgical procedure is completed, there is a period when the …

Prevalence And Associated Factors Of Mental And Substance Use Problems Among Adults In Kenya: A Community-Based Cross-Sectional Study, Patrick Nzivo Mwangala, Anita Kerubo, Millicent Makandi, Rachel Odhiambo, Amina Abubakar

Institute for Human Development, East Africa

Data on the burden and determinants of mental and substance use problems among women in urban and rural informal settlements in Kenya is sparse, thus limiting preventive and treatment efforts in these areas. To bridge the gap, we (a) determined the prevalence of depressive, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and alcohol and drug use problems among women compared to their spouses and (b) examined the correlates of these outcomes. Data collection for this cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2022 in Mombasa, Kwale and Nairobi counties in Kenya. A total of 1528 adults (1048 women) took part. The 9-Item …

The Absence Of Autistic Voices: Stereotypical Depictions Of Autistic Characters In Music, The Good Doctor, And Atypical, Emily Drawer

Communication Studies

In 1988, Rain Man was one of the first films with an autistic character that sparked conversation around neurodiversity. Throughout the past 30 years, different media texts have continued to include autistic characters to increase representation. However, there has not been an increase in representation compared to the large autistic community in the United States. As media attempts to include autistic characters, audiences must be aware of the message these characters and scenes are sending. In my analysis, I analyze three media texts that have autistic main characters. Using a visual rhetorical critique, I examine Music, Season 1 of The …

Perry, Leo Celi, Ismini Lourentzou, Luk Hendrik

Teaching, Leadership & Professional Practice Faculty Publications

Student engagement is a key predictor of academic achievement and is closely linked to career awareness, interest, and preparedness. Measuring student engagement during STEM learning is challenging for teachers, given the dynamic and ever-changing nature of these learning environments. Even when engagement data can be collected, leveraging this information to refine and personalise instruction requires significant experience and time. To address this, we are developing Scoutlier EngagEd, a digital teaching assistant that embeds in existing Learning Management Systems (LMS) to automatically and invisibly gather multidimensional data on student engagement and performance during STEM learning. These data are being leveraged to …

The German Defense-Industrial Zeitenwende: Implications For Transatlantic Security, Brett Swaney Jun 2025

The German Defense-Industrial Zeitenwende: Implications For Transatlantic Security, Brett Swaney

INSS Strategic Perspectives

The Zeitenwende, or “watershed moment”—announced by Chancellor Olaf Scholz in February 2022, days after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine—outlined a set of policy shifts, including the development of Germany’s first-ever National Security Strategy, that appeared to signal a greater role for Germany in the defense and security of Europe. The German National Security Strategy draws a clear connection between the need for a robust defense-industrial base and the foundation for the capabilities needed to meet North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) defense and deterrence commitments, support Ukraine, and provide for the recapitalization of allies and partners. To date, however, there has been …

Perceived Adherence-Related Barriers For Youth Living With Hiv In The Southern United States, Kate Weaver, Sarah J. Miller, Sayward Harrison

Faculty Publications

Objective: Youth are at high risk for HIV, accounting for 19% of new diagnoses in the United States (US) in 2021. Highly effective HIV treatment is available in the form of antiretroviral therapy (ART), which enables individuals with HIV to achieve viral suppression. However, youth living with HIV (YLHIV) have poorer ART adherence and lower rates of viral suppression than adults. This study aimed to explore the perspectives of YLHIV and their HIV care providers on barriers and facilitators to ART adherence for YLHIV in the southern US. Methods: Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with YLHIV (n = 16) …

Toward A Politically Neutral Approach To K-12 Pedagogy, Cameron S. Kang, John M. Kang

Missouri Law Review

Professors Linda McClain and James Fleming have written an intellectually stimulating book manuscript, “What Shall Be Orthodox” in Polarized Times? It is a privilege to have been afforded access to an early iteration of the book and an opportunity to share our thoughts about it. We (with “we” and its related “our” and “us” denoting Cameron and John) were inspired by Professors McClain and Fleming to reflect about the relationship between pedagogy and the Constitution.

The Marketing Of Populism And The Political-Economy Of War: Learning From The Russia-Ukraine Conflict, Nikhilesh Dholakia, Aras Ozgun, Deniz Atik

Marketing Faculty Publications

This conceptual study explores the social and political-economic conditions that spawn competing campaigns of democracy, populism, and autocracy from a macromarketing perspective. It delves into the less visible and deeper contexts that produce contemporary autocracies and international crises they provoke by analyzing the autocratic regime in Russia that resulted in its invasion of Ukraine. Instead of the reductive framing of this conflict as a contest between unsystematic notions of democracy and autocracy, this study offers a nuanced understanding of contemporary autocracies by investigating the links between populist political movements, neoliberal ideology, and state-sponsored capitalism as a growth oriented political-economic form. …
