A comfort braking control system for a vehicle includes a plurality of configurable braking thresholds that define a progressive application of braking force prior to emergency braking. The system determines a distance to collision and calculates a comfort braking time period before emergency braking would be required. This time period is divided into multiple intervals based on a number of thresholds, with braking force incrementally increased during each interval until reaching maximum braking power at emergency brake time. This progressive approach provides a smoother deceleration profile that enhances occupant comfort while still ensuring effective collision prevention.

Measuring Nursing Student’S Performance, Attitude And Psychological Impact Of Different Evaluation Approaches In Simulation Education At Arab American University- Palestine, Mohammad Asia, Maysa Kassabry

This study aimed to compare the competency and psychological impact of using the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) to the traditional evaluation methods (TEM) in evaluating cardiology skills among nursing simulation students. Thirty-two students were initially assessed using TEM, and one week later using the OSCE. Scores of the student competency were compared using paired sample t-tests, while semi-structured interviews were used to expand on qualitative measures. Students' mean scores were significantly higher in using OSCE than in TEM (p< 0.001). Students' attitudes and perceptions of both approaches showed favorable attitudes towards OSCE on most of the items. The qualitative data showed that students with lower GPAs and utilizing the OSCE approach experienced higher anxiety. The psychological impact of evaluation approaches requires additional investigation.

The preservation and management of heritage assets is critical for preserving a country's cultural identity and promoting tourism. However, guidance on how to account for heritage assets in government financial statements is lacking. In response to this need, the United Nations Statistical Commission has developed the Government Finance Statistics Manual (GFSM) to provide guidelines on the accounting treatment of heritage assets. This paper set the GFSM’s guidelines for accounting for heritage assets and provided a critical analysis of their applicability and effectiveness, as well as highlighting the challenges and limitations of heritage asset accounting. Through events like Daft Punk’s 2006 Cochella performance, lighting has become more pivotal to performances in every genre. However, interactive, customized lighting remains inaccessible to small and mediumscale performers. The cost of hiring a lighting director or pre-programing each song is simply too much. Current cost effective solutions, like sound-activated effects, lack in both quality and real-time emotional responsiveness.

Pneumolysin (PLY), a key virulence factor of Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae), disrupts airway epithelial barriers, yet its cellular and molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. We aim to elucidate recombinant pneumolysin (rPLY)’s effects on Calu-3 bronchial epithelial barrier integrity and underlying pathways. This study investigates the effects of non-lytic and lytic PLY concentrations (5, 15, 30 µg/mL) to test the hypothesis that PLY increases epithelial paracellular permeability by affecting the anatomy and physiology of epithelial tight junctions. Influence Of Age At Harvest And Packaging Conditions On Color Stability Of Bovine Psoas Major Muscle, Xiao Lu, Xin Luo, Sulaiman K. Matarneh

This study investigated the effect of cattle age on the color stability of Psoas major steaks under different packaging conditions, including polyvinyl chloride (PVC) film packaging, high-oxygen-modified atmosphere packaging (HiOx-MAP), and carbon monoxide modified atmosphere packaging (CO-MAP), over a 14-day storage period. Steaks from old cows had a greater myoglobin content than those from young animals (p < 0.05), resulting in a darker beef color. Regardless of animal age, steaks in PVC and HiOx-MAP exhibited poor color stability during storage, as evidenced by the low color intensity and high surface metmyoglobin (MetMb; p < 0.05). These samples also exhibited a reduced MetMb reducing activity (MRA) and oxygen consumption rate (OCR) and higher 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) levels, with these effects being evident in steaks from mature cows. In contrast, steaks stored in CO-MAP had greater redness, MRA, and OCR, along with lower surface MetMb and TBARS levels (p < 0.05), contributing to the limited discoloration of steaks from both age groups. These findings suggest that while both harvest age and packaging affect the shelf stability of bovine steaks, packaging plays a more significant role. CO-MAP proved to be more effective than aerobic packaging and may mitigate age-related differences in color stability.

Costs for UpToDate, the library’s primary point of care clinical tool, had increased to half of the acquisitions budget but without user affiliation data to facilitate cost sharing. A working group led by librarians was formed to review alternatives. Surveys indicated users preferred UpToDate and renewal was recommended by the working group, with costs being shared between the academic unit and the hospital. These results showed that the library can effectively lead analysis projects with this level of visibility, but persuading users to consider alternatives to a trusted tool can be challenging.

Background: The glomerular filtration rate (GFR), estimated from serum creatinine (SCr), is widely used in clinical practice for kidney function assessment, but SCr-based equations are limited by non-GFR determinants and may introduce inaccuracies across racial groups. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of Culturally Responsive Mentor Text in literacy development in an elementary classroom. Students in this study demonstrated increases in overall literacy development in the areas of comprehension and verbal discourse when paired with Culturally Diverse texts throughout the study. This study revealed that students were able to make more connections with texts and increase discussion when recognizing unfairness and overcoming struggles.
