This research aims to find a natural way to make cardboard more water-resistant, increasing its recyclability and lifespan by using banana peels (BP) and star apple leaves (SAL). The inspiration behind this study comes from commercial coatings that are made from synthetic chemicals, such as fluoropolymers and silicone, that can harm the environment. Since cardboard easily absorbs water, the researchers tested different mixtures of BP and SAL to determine which combination works best as a coating. Using ethanol maceration to extract hydrophobic compounds, epicuticular wax was obtained from SAL, while powdered BP was macerated with hexane. The extracts were concentrated …

Single teenage mothers in the Philippines face unique emotional and psychological challenges as they transition from adolescence to adulthood. These challenges often stem from societal stigma, guilt, and the loss of personal aspirations, which negatively affect their mental health and self-identity. Guided by Intersectionality theory, this study explores the emotional experiences of single teenage Filipino mothers, aiming to understand how early motherhood influences their emotional well-being, identity formation, and personal growth. Foodborne illnesses cause millions of deaths annually, posing a significant public health concern, particularly in regions with thriving street food cultures like the Philippines. This study investigated how sugar content and pH levels in street food dipping sauces affect microbial growth. Six sauce samples were prepared with varying sugar (25g, 50g, 75g) and pH levels (4.0, 3.6, 3.1). Microbial load was measured using the Standard Plate Count (SPC) method. While a moderate sugar concentration (50g) showed the lowest microbial load, this difference was not statistically significant (p=0.77). This research investigates the larvicidal potential of Caulerpa lentillifera, commonly known as sea grapes. Specifically, it aims to determine whether 0%, 10%, 20%, or 30% concentrations of C. lentillifera extract can significantly increase mosquito larval mortality after four hours of exposure. This study aimed to examine the bioethanol yield potential of varying ratios of Jicama (J) and Footstool Palm Stalk (FPS). The prototype used a mixed feedstock approach and was developed using the Separate Hydrolysis and Fermentation (SHF) method to extract and ferment sugars to produce ethanol. The study measured bioethanol yields by employing a posttest-only controlled group design consisting of a negative control group and three experimental groups. In 2023, the Los Angeles Public Housing Authority was hit by the LockBit ransomware gang, which claimed to have exfiltrated 15 terabytes of data. In another incident, hackers impersonated a vendor and diverted nearly $1 million in housing funds from a second California agency. Public Housing Authorities (PHAs), which handle large amounts of sensitive data, are increasingly being targeted by cyberattacks. These attacks often exploit the weak cyber defenses and broad risk profiles of these relatively unsophisticated entities. In Fiscal Year 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) conducted over 46,000 warrantless searches at international borders, raising significant privacy concerns. This article examines the constitutionality of these searches, focusing on the federal government’s use of the “border search exception” to the Fourth Amendment, which traditionally allows warrantless searches at the border to safeguard national security. Teaching Cultural Awareness To Dental Hygiene Students Through Project Based Learning, Jennifer Fehrenbacher

Journal of Educational Research and Practice

I implemented a cultural awareness project (CAP) to enhance dental hygiene students’ understanding of diverse cultural needs and beliefs related to oral health. This 2-year quality assurance project aimed to assess student perceptions of the CAP.

Two cohorts of 23 junior students each participated. I collected data via post-project surveys adapted from the Student Evaluation of Educational Quality (SEEQ) instrument after obtaining Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval and consent. Both cohorts (n = 23 each) demonstrated positive perceptions of the CAP, with mean scores of 4.9 and 4.8, respectively (p = .024). These data suggest that the CAP …

Problem: Lifestyle changes can significantly improve health outcomes for children with obesity and related chronic medical conditions. Families with limited knowledge about effective ways to improve health with lifestyle changes may benefit from frequent interactions with their health care team. This team can provide additional information and support needed to make and sustain lifestyle changes. Though potentially effective, there are often barriers to this care for both providers (limited time and availability of trained axillary staff) and families (missing school and work for frequent appointments).
