Scholarship on Romans 3.21–26 typically isolates the death of Jesus on the cross as the moment when Paul says the righteousness of God was disclosed, leading to the justification of all who believe the gospel. In this paper I argue that, although the death of Christ relates in important ways to Paul’s claims in the paragraph, this reading does not fully account for his metaphorical description of Christ as a ‘mercy seat’ (ἱλαστήριον), nor his assertion that those who believe are ‘justified through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus’. Aspect, which relates events to time periods, interacts in complex ways with temporal operators. This complexity is exemplified in the Gujarati language, where certain imperfective nominalized verbal forms are considered unacceptable with the temporal operator pachi (after) but not with pehlaa (before). This paper aims to shed light on this semantic unacceptability by combining insights from prior studies relating to aspect in other Indo-Aryan langauages with previous work done on English before and after.

In times of crisis, liberal democracies resort to authoritarian measures that undermine core democratic values. Dominant thought in the study of emergency-era law and politics appeal to a dichotomy of normal and exceptional times, to critique or justify the turn to sovereign decisionism. While this strategy seems clear-cut, the persistence of exceptional spaces and the crises that supposedly generate them challenge existing frameworks by blurring the line between norm and exception. In this work we gather results on information theory applied to proton tomography. We start by analyzing the quantum entanglement of momentum, spin-flavor, and color degrees of freedom (d.o.f.) in the leading valence-quark state of the proton on the light front using standard information theoretical tools, leveraging model wavefunctions by Brodsky and Schlumpf to obtain numerical predictions. Light-cone perturbation theory allows us to introduce the one-gluon correction in the sub-leading Fock state and study the entanglement of the gluonic d.o.f. We find weak entanglement in the spatial d.o.f. of the valence quarks, and significantly stronger entanglement in the analogous d.o.f. …

Protein Tyrosine Phosphatases (PTPs) are critical regulators of cellular signaling, and their activity is often modulated through allosteric mechanisms. Allostery is defined as a chemical or conformational change in one site of the protein due to a binding event at another site. Although several studies have investigated aspects of allostery in PTPs, the mechanistic foundations underlying allosteric regulation remain poorly understood. Despite a highly conserved catalytic domain across PTPs, regions with low or no conservation suggest potential "rewiring" of allosteric networks. This raises key questions about the universality versus individuality of allosteric mechanisms across the PTP family.

Mental health emergency response has become a highly scrutinized topic following the Black Lives Matter movement and several notable incidents of mental health emergency service users being killed by police responders. Qualitative interviews were conducted with mental health emergency service users to better understand the experience of using mental health emergency services, garner critical feedback of the service, and explore recommendations to improve future response. A total of 23 participants conducted interviews and detailed 40 incidents of mental health emergency service utilization. These interviews were then coded and analyzed. Dragonflies and damselflies (Odonata Fabricius, 1793) are among the most widely recognized and charismatic insect groups, whose significance have permeated throughout artwork, culture, and religion. They are highly mobile predators, currently consisting of ~ 6,500 species, and possessing some of the complex visual color systems, visual acuity, and flight patterns on Earth. Odonata are the among the earliest flying insects, with proto-odonates (Griffinflies) dating back to the Carboniferous (~360mya), with crown-odonata fossils stretching back to the Triassic (~250mya). Speaking from the Underground explores the work of Lois Elaine Griffith, an Afro-Caribbean diasporic visual and literary artist of Barbadian descent and one of the last surviving founders of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, a Puerto Rican cultural institution grounded in Afro-Caribbean traditions located in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. In the common, cultural parlance, the Cafe has become synonymous with spoken word and slam poetry. In its twenty-five years in New York City’s new music scene, Wet Ink Ensemble has established a distinctive approach in which members blend the roles of performer, composer, and improviser. This dissertation investigates how the ensemble’s beginnings at the nexus of the experimental rock and avant-garde music scenes prepared it for a turn towards collaborative composition and improvisation. After defining essential elements of the ensemble’s performance practice, I analyze Eric Wubbels’ Auditory Scene Analysis (I) and Sam Pluta’s Lines on Black—compositions that exemplify opposing poles of notational specificity. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a significant public health concern, often leading to cognitive and emotional impairments. This study examined the effects of TBI on working memory and anxiety-like behavior in young male Sprague-Dawley rats using the Radial Arm Maze (RAM) and Elevated Plus Maze (EPM), which are behavioral assessments. The RAM tests spatial working memory by evaluating the animal’s ability to remember and efficiently navigate multiple arms to retrieve rewards. The EPM assesses anxiety-like behavior based on the animal’s preference for open versus closed arms. On July 29, 2025, at an auto dealership in Indiana, Lee Zeldin, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), announced a proposal to withdraw the Endangerment Finding for greenhouse gases (GHGs), which has been EPA’s legal basis for using the Clean Air Act to fight climate change. This action, which will surely be fought in court once it becomes final, raises a host of legal issues. Glyphosate is one of the most widely applied agrochemicals in North America and can be directly transported via runoff into non-target aquatic habitats. Yet, our understanding of how this herbicide affects aquatic ecosystems is limited; past studies have often focused on single species effects and/or used herbicide concentrations several orders of magnitude higher than what has been reported in contaminated aquatic systems. Problem: In 2020, Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) established a regional campus in Temple, Texas (BCM-T), that required recruitment of multiple foundational sciences faculty members in a limited time frame. Group in-person interviews were used to fill these roles efficiently while promoting interaction between candidates and BCM faculty. This study assesses whether interviewing foundational sciences medical educators in a group setting can efficiently fill faculty positions, reducing time and financial costs while being perceived as fair and acceptable to the candidates.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate a local natural healing service program and to explore how engagement in natural healing services related to the well-being of survivors of domestic violence. Using longitudinal secondary data, we conducted t-tests, regression, and correlation analysis on three measures (hope, distress, and empowerment) that were completed by the participants (N = 31). We provided evidence of the positive impact of a community-based natural healing services program on the well-being of survivors of domestic violence, specifically their sense of hope. Objectives: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning about buprenorphine-induced dental caries of unknown mechanism in 2022. To investigate the potential mechanism, the association between local buprenorphine exposure and dental biofilm formation will be explored in this study.

Methods: Female F344 rats were dosed with sublingual buprenorphine film or intravenous injection to explore the oral cavity exposure of the buprenorphine. The buprenorphine distribution in salivary glands after the sublingual and intravenous administration was also evaluated. cAMP influences multiple aspects of cardiac biology, including the regulation of contraction, relaxation, and overall stress responses. The functional outcomes of cAMP are driven by the spatial arrangement of enzymes that produce and degrade cAMP (adenylyl cyclase [AC] and phosphodiesterase, respectively), together with the downstream targets of cAMP. We performed proximity-dependent biotin identification (BioID) of near-neighbor interactions proteomics in cardiomyocytes to generate proximity maps for three cardiac AC isoforms. Processing and trafficking functions were the most common gene ontology terms for ACs, with AC5 and AC6 generating unique proximal protein sets compared to AC9. Objective: Efficacious modalities are limited in chronic low back pain (cLBP). We determined the efficacy of auricular point acupressure (APA) in older adults with cLBP.

Design: 3-arm randomized controlled trial.

Setting: Baltimore, Maryland.

Participants: Participants, ≥60 years with cLBP, were randomized (1:1:1) to APA with ear points targeted to cLBP (T-APA, n = 92), points nontargeted to cLBP (NT-APA, n = 91), or waitlist education control (n = 89), and followed up to 6 months (6M). Participants in the APA groups received 4 weekly APA sessions; the education control group received 4 weekly educational sessions.

Objective: By leveraging real-world electronic health record (EHR) data, this study set out to estimate individualized treatment effects (ITE) in longitudinal observational settings to advance personalized medicine, addressing key challenges that are often observed in real-world clinical scenarios and pose statistical challenges, including hidden confounding and dynamic treatment regimens.

Methods: We propose the Variational Temporal Deconfounder Network (VTDNet), a novel framework designed to account for time-varying hidden confounding using a variational recurrent transformer-based autoencoder. This retrospective study compares postoperative visual outcomes among 150 eyes treated with Light-Adjustable Lenses (LAL), toric monofocal lenses, and spherical monofocal lenses at Discover Vision Centers in Missouri and Kansas. The study included individuals with an average age of 68.9 years (25-82 years) who had cataract extraction (CE) within the past five years. Patients with prior corneal refractive procedures, including Radial Keratotomy (RK), Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) or Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) were excluded. Sixty-four percent of eyes with LALs achieved uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDVA) better than 20/20 after the final lock-in, 46.0% with …
