Background

The tomato leafminer, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is a highly invasive pest that causes significant damages to tomato crops globally. Its resistance to commonly used chemical insecticides has made management increasingly difficult, prompting the need for sustainable, effective alternatives. This study investigated the efficacy of a Lebanese isolate of Beauveria pseudobassiana as a biological control agent against T. absoluta, compared its performance to Bacillus thuringiensis and conventional pesticide mixtures under both controlled, commercial production conditions

What is often debated, however, is how (and if) the U.S. should be tackling these carbon emissions. This study emphasizes the importance of ethical and human-centered leadership in the adoption of AI-based Early Alert Systems (EAS) in higher education. It argues for leadership that is mindful of system-level risks and ethical considerations in utilizing AI tools for student retention and administrative efficiency. Our perceptual systems detect information about how our body is moving relative to the surrounding environment. Such information is essential to our ability to maintain upright standing balance. Real-time postural feedback systems are technologies that appear to enhance our ability to detect information about the movements of our body, and as a consequence improve our capacity to control the posture of our body. Here we examine a system in which real-time measurements of head position were "felt" as changes in the intensity of vibration of tactors in a headband. This article critically examines Abdessalam Yassine’s thought regarding Western modernity. Abdessalam Yassine develops a radical critique of Western modernity, which he associates with secularism, materialism, and the exclusion of spirituality. Rooted in Islamic tradition, his thought opposes “believing reason” to “autonomous reason” and seeks to restore the primacy of Revelation as the foundation of all reform. However, his critique essentializes the West as a homogeneous and destructive entity, reducing Western experiences to their imperialist dimension without distinguishing between universal values and strategies of domination. Beyond Binaries – Toward a "Polylogue" in Arab Culture

This article proposes a radical critique of the traditional binary model of intercultural dialogue, suggesting an epistemological alternative: the "polylogue" or multidimensional dialogue. Starting from the crisis of contemporary dialogues, often limited to mere "discourse on dialogue" without real transformation, the text exposes the limitations of the binary model that reduces cultural complexity to a sterile confrontation between two homogeneous blocks. As an alternative, the author introduces the concept of the polylogue, developed by Austrian philosopher Franz Martin Wimmer, which rests on a plurality of centers, mutual influence, and simultaneous interaction. …

The study by Muhammad al-Talbi seeks to reform Islamic thought, which he argues is stagnant and declining in the face of contemporary scientific, social, and political challenges. Al-Talbi strongly criticizes intellectual stagnation and the official Islamic rejection of reconciliation between religion, reason, and science. He believes that clinging to outdated and unrenewed jurisprudential legacies creates a rift with the changing world, reinforcing the perception of Islam as backward, despite its spiritual richness.

In this dissertation I use autoethnography and performance methods to create a performance art installation that examines and re-imagines the role of media representations in shaping how I as a Latina actively negotiates belonging and identifies this concept as always in a processes requiring negotiation. I argue belonging is influenced by how I see myself or don’t see myself in media representation and offer the counter-narrative as a way of asserting agency and disrupting marginalization. In this project, I tend to the tensions felt between being a community member, media maker, and qualitative researcher in order to disrupt media messages. …

Synergetics is an emerging paradigm which quantitatively describes and predicts the dynamics of complex living and nonliving systems. It has illuminated how complex systems can spontaneously self-organize by coordinating the activity of their constituent components toward some coherent, collective behavior. This coordinated activity can produce complex macroscopic spatiotemporal patterns without the need for central planning. In this dissertation, we develop and explore generalizations of the Haken-Kelso-Bunz (HKB) model of coordination dynamics. These generalizations include modeling higher-dimensional systems of coupled multistable oscillators with arbitrary diversity and coupling parameters, where the system components have the capacity to “learn” or adapt their intrinsic …

OBJECTIVES: Describing the development of a visual dashboard leveraging available tools for efficient recruitment for patient centered clinical trials in resource constrained settings.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: A real-time, visual dashboard was developed, facilitating interactive visualizations, detailed analyses, and data quality control. Daily automated REDCap data retrieval occurred via an R program using REDCap API and output was integrated into Power BI. An interrupted time series analysis was conducted evaluating effects of dashboard on clinical trial recruitment metrics.

RESULTS: The visual dashboard displayed key recruitment metrics, including individual participant progression and recruitment trends over time. Interrupted time series analysis showed improvements …

INTRODUCTION: Fenestration of the lateral semicircular canal has been proposed to improve intracochlear gene therapy delivery, but the relationship between the membranous and bony labyrinths at the canal apex has not been systematically defined.

METHODS: We examined 62 human temporal bones, including 31 unaffected specimens and 31 with chronic otitis media, using histologic review to assess the membranous-to-bony relationship at the apex.

RESULTS: In all specimens, the membranous labyrinth directly contacted the outer circumferential bony wall.

CONCLUSION: This consistent finding, independent of disease state, indicates that fenestration at the lateral canal apex carries a high risk of membranous injury. Potential …

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Patient satisfaction is increasingly recognized as a key indicator of the effectiveness of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. While some studies suggest disparities in satisfaction across treatment settings, there remains limited research examining these differences, particularly among vulnerable populations. This study aimed to assess patient perceptions of satisfaction with opioid use treatment services and explore how demographic and socioeconomic factors influence these experiences.

With up to 10 years of follow-up, we report results from the final analysis of RESONATE- 2, a phase 3 study of first-line ibrutinib vs chlorambucil for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL). Patients aged ≥65 years with previously untreated CLL/SLL without del(17p) were randomly assigned to receive either single-agent ibrutinib (420 mg/d; n = 136) or chlorambucil (0.5-0.8 mg/kg; ≤12 cycles; n = 133). As disputants increasingly rely upon arbitration it is critical to understand outcomes that are likely to arise from mechanisms like final offer arbitration. While a sizable experimental literature investigating strategic behavior in final offer arbitration exists, that work has overwhelmingly focused on situations where the arbitrator’s beliefs about the appropriate resolution are symmetric and uninfluenced by the disputants’ cases. This paper considers a setting where the arbitrator’s beliefs depend on the strength of each disputant’s case.
