Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation With Local Optimization, Tianyu Ye, Yiqun Wang, Dongming Yan, Junhai Yong
Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation With Local Optimization, Tianyu Ye, Yiqun Wang, Dongming Yan, Junhai Yong
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Centroidal Voronoi tessellation is a special geometric structure, which has many applications in various fields such as geographical information system, signal processing, mesh generation/optimization, visualization and so on. Due to the highly non-convex nature of the CVT energy function, the existing methods for computing CVT have several drawbacks, which always trap into local minima. We propose generation optimization and stochastic optimization schemes for further reducing the CVT energy. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves both quality and efficiency compared to the recent approaches.
Satellite Formation Keeping And Its Stability Analysis Based On Artificial Potential Field Method, Shengqing Yang, Wenyu Ye, Yubin He, Yabin Wan
Satellite Formation Keeping And Its Stability Analysis Based On Artificial Potential Field Method, Shengqing Yang, Wenyu Ye, Yubin He, Yabin Wan
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: In this paper, a control method of satellite formation keeping is investigated based on artificial potential field. Since the N-body problem doesn’t have analytical solutions, a leader-follower formation is proposed as a restricted N-body problem. The stable structure has infinite possible pairs of coordinates in the inertial frame, therefore the Jacobian matrix of the corresponding error dynamic system at the equilibrium point is unsolvable. By introducing a transformation of coordinates from inertial frame to a specific reference frame, the stability analysis of error dynamic system is only related to the structure of formation. By the reduction of error …

Structure Optimization Analysis Of Distillation Kettle Based On Elastic-Plastic Mechanics, Xiaodong Hu, Liu Ning, Xiangsong Qi, Jianpeng Wang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Based on the analysis of structural strength by elastic mechanics, there is a large stress singularity due to the discontinuity of the equipment structure, which makes the calculation result not consistent with the actual stress of the equipment. According to the actual design and structure of a distillation reactor, based on the theory of elastic-plastic mechanics, through modeling, meshing, loading and constraint analysis, the stress distribution of distillation kettle is analyzed; and the wall thickness and stiffener structure are optimized. The results show that the calculation results are reliable and the design of wall thickness is smaller than the …

Design Of An Energy-Aware Enhanced Cooperative Mac Protocol In Mobile Ad Hoc Networks, Jaeshin Jang, Balasubramaniam Natarajan
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
In this paper, we present a new energy-efficient cooperative MAC protocol, called the e2 BT-COMAC protocol for mobile ad hoc networks, and evaluate its performance. In the proposed MAC protocol, which is an enhanced version of our previous eBT-COMAC protocol, a cross-layer energy-aware strategy for cooperative communication is employed using mobile nodes. Considering a random waypoint mobility model for all mobile nodes, we compare the system throughput and network lifetime of the e2 BT-COMAC protocol with previously proposed cooperative MAC protocols. Using a new metric that is a weighted combination of normalized system throughput and lifetime, we determine optimal values …

Evaluating The Costs And Benefits Of A Smart Contract Blockchain Framework For Credit Default Swaps, Ryan Clements
William & Mary Business Law Review
Despite wide speculation about its use-value, there are very few large-scale Blockchain implementations, particularly in sophisticated financial applications and mature markets. The extent of Blockchain’s disruptive potential in these domains is uncertain. This Article considers Blockchain’s use-value for credit default swap contract execution, fulfillment, and post-trade processing by using, as an assessment base, a series of derivative industry whitepapers, academic and technological evaluative studies, and commentary relating to current market undertakings. In summary, when applied to credit default swaps, there are many barriers to implementation, as well as costs, fragmentation risks, technological deficiencies, and practical drawbacks. As a result, there …
Removal Without Approval? Corporate Litigative Authority To Consent To Federal Removal Where Adverse Parties Are Co-Equal Shareholder Co-Directors, James M. Mcclure
Removal Without Approval? Corporate Litigative Authority To Consent To Federal Removal Where Adverse Parties Are Co-Equal Shareholder Co-Directors, James M. Mcclure
William & Mary Business Law Review
The Case of Swart v. Pawar involved a novel question of law: can a president of a corporation claim authority on behalf of that corporation to consent to federal removal in a suit against a co-equal shareholder co-director even though that president lacks board approval or explicit authority from the business’s bylaws or charter? To address this question, the parties in Swart analogized removal to suit initiation and defense. Since the federal courts hearing the case did not assess the validity of these analogical arguments or a president’s removal authority generally, this Note evaluates the analogies as well as several …
Classifying Private Landowners To Improve Understanding Of Management Decisions And Conservation Opportunities In Urbanizing Forested Landscapes, Jessica A. Balukas, Kathleen P. Bell, Dana Marie Bauer
Classifying Private Landowners To Improve Understanding Of Management Decisions And Conservation Opportunities In Urbanizing Forested Landscapes, Jessica A. Balukas, Kathleen P. Bell, Dana Marie Bauer
Economics
Viewed as coupled natural and human systems, urbanizing forested landscapes exhibit fascinating and complex dynamics, where landowner decisions and biophysical processes together influence conservation and development outcomes. To improve understanding of land management decisions and conservation opportunities on private lands in these landscapes, we developed a landowner typology that accounts for heterogeneity among landowners that goes beyond ownership objectives and investigated its usefulness in predicting individual private landowners' stated intentions to implement diverse land management actions. Using survey responses collected from private landowners in two metropolitan areas in Maine, USA, we focused on understanding differences in owners' stated likelihood of …

Experimental Study: Underwater Propagation Of Super-Gaussian And Multi-Gaussian Schell-Model Partially Coherent Beams With Varying Degrees Of Spatial Coherence, Svetlana Avramov-Zamurovic, Charles L. Nelson, Milo W. Hyde Iv
Faculty Publications
We report on experiments where super-Gaussian and flat-top, multi-Gaussian Schell-model spatially partially coherent beams, with varying degrees of spatial coherence, were propagated underwater. Two scenarios were explored—calm and mechanically agitated water. The main objective of our study was the experimental comparison of the scintillation statistics. For a similar degree of coherence widths, the results show a potentially improved performance of scintillation index for the multi-Gaussian Schell-model beams as compared to the super-Gaussian beams. It should be noted that the presented results pertain only to the given experimental scenarios and further investigation is necessary to determine the scope of the findings.

Application Of Random Geometric Imperfection Method To Nonlinear Buckling Analysis Of Spherical Shell, Zhixin Xiong, Zhiquan Huang, Xiaochuan Yu
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
This paper focuses on spherical shells with random geometric imperfections under uniform external pressure. An extensive numerical investigation is performed to calculate the buckling loads of perfect and imperfect spherical shells. To discuss the effects of initial geometric imperfections, a finite element analysis model of the perfect spherical shell is considered to obtain its first 60 modes. Then, the consistent imperfect buckling analysis method is applied to analyze the nonlinear stability of the spherical shells with geometric imperfections. The shapes of the shell in the 1st to 20th eigenmode are considered. A lower buckling load is found corresponding to the …
Rectangle-Based Approaches For Representing Flood Data In Spatial Indices, Ya-Hui Chang, Wen-Han Lee, Tai-Feng Ke
Rectangle-Based Approaches For Representing Flood Data In Spatial Indices, Ya-Hui Chang, Wen-Han Lee, Tai-Feng Ke
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
Appropriate representation of flood data in indices is crucial for efficient future querying. A common approach is to use minimum bounding rectangles to build R-tree indices rather than storing real complex objects; however, the results may be imprecise. Herein, to improve the performance of this approach, we discuss methods for producing corresponding rectangles. The first method involves generating a set of small fixed-sized squares, and the second one attempts to initially obtain a large rectangle. The third approach recursively partitions the space into four quadrants until the given size constraint is satisfied. Experimental results based on the real flood data …
