Blind Separation Simulation System Of Sound Signals Based On Time-Frequency Analysis Of Short Time Fourier Transformation, Xiaorong Tong Feb 2019

Blind Separation Simulation System Of Sound Signals Based On Time-Frequency Analysis Of Short Time Fourier Transformation, Xiaorong Tong

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: In order to improve the ability of real-time and separation accuracy, a blind separation algorithm based on time-frequency (TF) analysis of short time Fourier transformation is proposed, and the problems of underdetermined sound signal sorting can be solved effectively. The proposed method avoids some of the drawbacks, relaxes the assumption by allowing the sources to be TF-non-disjoint to a certain extent, and the algorithm can be achieved in the condition of TF-non-disjoint. This method was successfully applied to sound signal sorting system; the time domain waves of signals can be got; and the whole signal sorting process can be …

Innovation And Competition In Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products, Enrique Seoane-Vazquez, Vaishali Shukla, Rosa Rodriguez-Monguio

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research

"Advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), including gene therapy, cell therapy, and tissue engineering products, represent a paradigm shift in health care as they have great potential for preventing and treating many diseases (Food and Drug Administration (FDA), 2013). By way of example, only 367 (8.0%) of the 4,603 rare diseases and conditions listed by the NIH Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center had at least one FDA-approved drug therapy in early 2018. An estimated 3,038 (66.0%) of those rare diseases and conditions are congenital and genetic diseases that could potentially be treated by gene therapy. There are already ATMPs under …

The Effect Of Calcination Rate On The Structure Of Mesoporous Bioactive Glasses, Saidur Rahman, Andrew Mendonca, Adel Alhalawani, Deanna Polintan, Owen M. Clarkin, Mark R. Towler

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Mesoporous bioactive glasses (MBGs) are designed to have high specific surface area. They are formulated by a sol–gel process to formulate the glass followed by calcination. This study evaluates how calcination heating rate influences the porous architecture, and thereby the specific surface area, of MBGs. MBGs of molar ratio 80:15:5 for SiO2 :CaO:P2 O 5 were calcined using both low (1 °C/min) and high (20 °C/min) heating rates, termed as L-MBG and H-MBG, respectively. The results obtained from small-angle X-ray diffraction (SAXRD) confirm that the MBGs possess 2D hexagonal (P6mm) spacing groups and wide-angle XRD confirms the amorphicity …

Revealing The Effects Of Matrix Behavior On Low-Velocity Impact Response Of Continuous Fiber-Reinforced Thermoplastic Laminates, A. Yudhanto, H. Wafai, G. Lubineau, S. Goutham, M. Mulle, R. Yaldiz, N. Verghese

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Matrix behavior is expected to widely influence the impact response of composites, but detailed conclusions in the case of thermoplastic laminates are still needed. In this paper, we investigated the effect of using either ductile homopolymer PP or less-ductile impact copolymer PP matrices on the low-velocity impact responses of continuous glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP) laminate. These PP types represent two variants in the same family of thermoplastic matrix. A thorough experimental campaign was first performed to provide the tensile properties (for PP and glass/PP) and fracture toughness (Mode-I and Mode-II, glass/PP only) of the employed materials. Then, low-velocity impact tests …

In Situ Micro-Scale High-Speed Imaging For Evaluation Of Fracture Propagation And Fracture Toughness Of Thermoplastic Laminates Subjected To Impact, H. Wafai, A. Yudhanto, G. Lubineau, M. Mulle, T. Alghamdi, S. T. Thoroddsen, R. Yaldiz, N. Verghese Feb 2019

In Situ Micro-Scale High-Speed Imaging For Evaluation Of Fracture Propagation And Fracture Toughness Of Thermoplastic Laminates Subjected To Impact, H. Wafai, A. Yudhanto, G. Lubineau, M. Mulle, T. Alghamdi, S. T. Thoroddsen, R. Yaldiz, N. Verghese

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Measuring parameters related to each damage mode of composites subjected to impact is very challenging because of the complex damage phenomenology. Here, we developed an experimental methodology for evaluating the micro-scale fracture characteristics of two principal damage modes, i.e., transverse crack and delamination, and providing the corresponding fracture toughness. We demonstrated the capability of the method by comparing and providing additional insights about two materials, namely homopolymer-based (ductile) and copolymer-based (less-ductile) glass/polypropylene thermoplastic composites. We found that (i) transverse crack behavior of both composites is similar as indicated by a small difference in their fracture toughness, (ii) delamination growth in …

The Advanced LIGO detectors have recently completed their second observation run successfully. The run lasted for approximately 10 months and led to multiple new discoveries. The sensitivity to gravitational waves was partially limited by laser noise. Here, we utilize auxiliary sensors that witness these correlated noise sources, and use them for noise subtraction in the time domain data. This noise and line removal is particularly significant for the LIGO Hanford Observatory, where the improvement in sensitivity is greater than 20%. Consequently, we were also able to improve the astrophysical estimation for the location, masses, spins, and orbital parameters of the …

Next-Generation Sequencing Identifies Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Responsive Genes In The Juvenile Rat Cerebellum, Aaron A. Mehus, Aaron M. Dickey, Timothy P. L. Smith, Kathleen M. Yeater, Matthew Picklo

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

Dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) influence postnatal brain growth and development. However, little data exist regarding the impacts of dietary n-3 PUFA in juvenile animals post weaning, which is a time of rapid growth. We tested the hypothesis that depleting dietary n-3 PUFA would result in modifications to the cerebellar transcriptome of juvenile rats. To test this hypothesis, three week old male rats (an age that roughly corresponds to an 11 month old child in brain development) were fed diets containing either soybean oil (SO) providing 1.1% energy from α-linolenic acid (ALA; 18:3n-3; ALA-sufficient) or corn oil (CO) providing …

The Resistance & The Stubborn But Unsurprising Persistence Of Hate And Extremism In The United States, Jeannine Bell

Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies

Though the far right has a long history in the United States, the presidential campaign and then election of Donald Trump brought the movement out of the shadows. This article will analyze the rise in White supremacist activity in the United States-from well-publicized mass actions like the White supremacist march in Charlottesville in August 2017 to individual acts of violence happening since November 2016. This article focuses on contextualizing such incidents within this contemporary period and argues that overt expressions of racism and racist violence are nothing new. The article closes with a call to strengthen the current legal remedies …
