Squeeze Operators In Classical Scenarios, Jorge A. Anaya-Contreras, Arturo Zu´Niga-Segundo, Francisco Soto-Eguibar, V´Ictor Arrizon
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
We analyse the paraxial field propagation in the realm of classical optics, showing that it can be written as the action of the fractional Fourier transform, followed by the squeeze operator applied to the initial field. Secondly, we show that a wavelet transform may be viewed as the application of a displacement and squeeze operator onto the mother wavelet function.

Bayesian Structural Time-Series Approach To A Long-Term Electricity Demand Forecasting, Paul Mokilane, Pravesh Debba, Venkata S. S. Yadavalli, Caston Sigauke
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The paper presents an application of Bayesian structural time-series model to forecast long-term electricity demand. Accurate trend specification in long-term forecasting is important; otherwise erroneous forecasts could be obtained especially in South Africa where it is difficult to determine if the trend would continue a downward trajectory or would revert to an upward trajectory. Long-term probabilistic electricity demand forecasts in South Africa from 2013 to 2023 are presented in this paper. The findings are; (a) electricity demand in South Africa is less likely to exceed the highest historical hourly demand of 36 826 kW until 2023 (b) South African demand …

Conceptual Cost Modelling For Sustainable Construction Project Planning— A Levenberg–Marquardt Neural Network Approach, P. S. Kumar, S. Gururaj
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The main objective of this paper is to develop a systematic neural network model to estimate the conceptual cost for sustainable construction projects. A wide range of influencing factors on micro and macro level has been considered. The proposed engineering approach is pragmatic to model labour and material cost incurred in different stages of construction using the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique. The results indicated an acceptable convergence with reasonable generalization capabilities and the results obtained from the neural network model are more accurate and credible. This study contributes to the construction professionals by providing insight for using different ANN …
Secured Wireless Sensor Network Framework To Support Guaranteed Successful Data Transmission, R. J. Kavitha, N. Satheesh
Secured Wireless Sensor Network Framework To Support Guaranteed Successful Data Transmission, R. J. Kavitha, N. Satheesh
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
We introduce the protocols to perform the optimal and secured routing in the wireless sensor network to guarantee the successful data transmission. In the proposed research method, the previous drawbacks have been resolved by introducing the Secured Edge Disjoint Routing Protocol (SEDRP). Optimal Edge disjoint routing is done by introducing the various research techniques that can ensure the optimal forwarding of the data packets. Optimal selection of edge disjoint route paths is done by using hybrid genetic PSO algorithm. This research work considers the following Quality of Service (QoS) parameters for the optimal selection of route paths: “energy, bandwidth, processing …

A Partial Grained Attribute-Based Encryption For Secure Data Access In The Cloud Environment, M. P. Revathi, P. D. Sheba Kezia Malarchelvi
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A recent fast-developing method for easy access and sharing of medical data is to maintain the patients’ information in the form of Electronic Health Record (EHRs). Nowadays, these EHRs are most frequently outsourced and stockpiled at third parties namely cloud servers. This reduces the burden on health care providers but introduces more safety problems like revealing of health data to unapproved parties due to access, by not only illegitimate users but also unauthorized access by legitimate users. Though illegitimate users can be identified by authentication mechanisms, unauthorized access by authentic users cannot be restricted by such authentication mechanisms. To guarantee …

Group Mosquito Host Seeking Algorithm Based Self Organizing Technique For Genetic Algorithm, S. Ayshwarya Lakshmi, S. A. Sahaaya Arul Mary
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Genetic algorithms (GAs) are the most important evolutionary computation technique that is used to solve various complex problems that involve a large search space. To have a performance improvement over GA, the concept of Hybrid genetic algorithms that were inspired from the biological behaviour of different living beings was put to use to solve the Non-deterministic Polynomial (NP)complete problems. Hybrid GA can be derived by amalgamating with efficient nature inspired heuristic algorithms like Particle Swarm optimization (PSO), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), firefly algorithm, cuckoo search, etc.. The grey wolf optimization algorithm has been the recently proposed bio-inspired optimization algorithm that …

Fault Diagnosis Of A Protocol Implementation Specified In A System Of Communicating Finite-State Machines, Qi-Ping Yang, Tae-Hyong Kim
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Since testing is an important but expensive process in the protocol development, formal specification models like FiniteState Machines (FSMs) are used to automate testing process. This paper focuses on specifications in a system of communicating FSMs (SCFSM) for protocols with multiple components, and explores fault diagnosis of protocol implementations based on such specifications. The target implementation is first examined with test cases generated by our test generation method. For the implementation which turns out to have a fault, we propose a heuristic algorithm to isolate and locate the fault in the specification. We also presents the assumptions and conditions required …

A Novel Analysis Of The Performance Of Cloud Computing Centers Using Non-Markovian Queuing Model, D. Chitra Devi, K. Gokulnath, V. Rhymend Uthariaraj
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A novel mathematical model is presented to analyse the performance of cloud computing centers using non-Markovian queuing model M/G/c/c+r/PR with priority as a queue discipline.Task arrivals are categorized as higher-priority (Hpriority) task queue and low-priority (Lpriority) task queue. This model allows cloud providers to determine the performance metrics of the task queue such as average number of tasks, probability of congestion, and probability of no waiting time with respect to server and buffer size. Two feasible conditions, namely non-preemptive and preemptive task priorities are discussed in this work. This approach is validated using discrete-event simulator and Maplesoft for the above mentioned …

Analysis Of Cooling Applications For Solar Thermal-Energy-Storage System, C. Reginald Jegathese, K. Kalidasa Murugavel
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper presents the experimental setup built to study a Thermal-Energy-Storage System (TESS) based on concrete as packed-bed using air heat-transfer fluid. Thermal energy storage using sensible heat storage materials have gained much interest in the renewable energy storage sector due to its relatively low cost, abundant availability and technical development. The objective of this work is to design, fabricate and test a sensible heat thermal-energy-storage system. This work can be actualized in low-temperature cooling. A use of this work on low-temperature cooling is by utilizing silica gel-water adsorption chiller which can be driven by 55◦C of heated water. In …
Numerical Approximation Of Bounds Of Μ-Values For A Family Of Pascal Matrices, Mutti-Ur Rehman, Zobia Arif
Numerical Approximation Of Bounds Of Μ-Values For A Family Of Pascal Matrices, Mutti-Ur Rehman, Zobia Arif
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this article, we present numerical approximations to lower bounds of Structured Singular Values (SSV) for a family of Pascal matrices. In mathematics, particularly in matrix theory, Pascal matrix is an infinite matrix containing the binomial coefficients as its elements. The obtained lower bounds of SSV are then compared with the well-known MATLAB routine mussv available in MATLAB Control Toolbox.
Star Edge Coloring Of Subcubic Graphs, Kavita Pradeep, V. Vijayalakshmi
Star Edge Coloring Of Subcubic Graphs, Kavita Pradeep, V. Vijayalakshmi
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
A proper edge coloring of a graph G is called star edge coloring if there is no bi-colored path or cycle of length four in G. The minimum number of colors needed to star color the edges of G is called the star chromatic index of G, denoted by χs′(G). In 2013[1], Dvoˇr´ak et. al. proved that for a subcubic graph G, χs′ (G) ≤ 7 and conjectured that it is less than or equal to 6. In this paper, we show that if a subcubic graph G has maximum average degree less than 83 then χs′(G) ≤ 6.

Decomposition Model For Estimating Diffuse Solar Radiation, M. Harhash, W. Dawoud, A. H. Oraby, M. M. Abdel Wahab
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, a regressive model based on the sigmoid function is presented for estimating the diffuse component of surface solar irradiance from the global irradiance. We consider the correlations between global solar radiation and its diffuse component measured on horizontal incident. The regression equation was tested outside the measurement period (2016) with a root mean square error of about 0.1 and a relative mean bias error of −14.6 ± 0.8%. Results show that the sigmoid behaviour provides more reliable estimates for values of diffuse solar irradiance.

Semi-Supervised Multi-Instance Neurologic Adaptive Learning Intrusion Detection System, A. P. Jagadeesan, K. Gnanambal
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In the earlier work, Single Instance Single-Label Learning mechanisms are proved faster and converge for better results but the accuracy is the concern in the Intrusion Detection systems (IDS) in large scale data centric networks. Evolution of supervised training mechanisms have favored more accurate decision making, however failed to incorporate the dynamism of new instances which are in early stages and non-overlapping with current training data sets. This paper proposes a cascaded and hybridized mechanism involving Semi-supervised Multi-Instance Neurologic Adaptive Learning (SMI-NAL) mechanism. The objective is to estimate the threshold level of convergence and improve the system accuracy. In addition, …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
This paper presents a novel computer vision technique of intelligent recognition of safety in construction sites. The proposed technique relies on a new methodology for Neuro-Fuzzy Singular Value Decomposition (NFSVD). This methodology utilized unmanned safety worker’s wears. Where within a construction site entranced a multi-camera is used and fixed on a special frame inside the security Cabin. Before the workers allowed for entering the construction site, an automatic detecting, and an intelligent matching system has the ability to recognize the worker’s dress shapes and colors through a multi snap image. To improve the success of this methodology, the proposed technique …
Gerber Shiu Function Of A Risk Model With Two Classes Of Claims, Random Incomes And Markov-Modulated System Parameters, Shija G., M. J. Jacob
Gerber Shiu Function Of A Risk Model With Two Classes Of Claims, Random Incomes And Markov-Modulated System Parameters, Shija G., M. J. Jacob
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper we consider the Gerber-Shiu (G-S) discounted penalty function of a risk model with two classes of claims, random income and all system parameters controlled by independent Markov-Modulated (MM) environments. The model is motivated by the flexibility in modeling the two different claim arrival processes, for instance, fatal and nonfatal conditions in health insurance or from the four wheelers and two wheelers in vehicle insurance. Also the states of MM processes describe, for example, the epidemic types in health insurance or weather conditions in vehicle insurance. It is natural to consider that the controlling environment conditions are different …

Generalized Thermoelasticity With Diffusion And Voids Under Rotation, Gravity And Electromagnetic Field In The Context Of Four Theories, S. M. Abo-Dahab
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we investigated a new mathematical model on effect of the diffusion with voids in generalized thermoelastic half-space with electromagnetic field, gravity field, and rotation. The model is formulated in the context of four thermoelastic theories; Classical (CT), Lord Shulman (LS), Green Lindsay (GL) and Dual-Phase-Lag (DPL) models. The boundary conditions on the surface applied to obtain the enclosed expressions for the displacements, temperature, stresses, concentration of diffusion and volume fraction field in the physical domain using the normal mode method. A comparison will be made for the results obtained in the presence and absence of the new …

We identify the role of Managerial Accounting Information System (MAIS) in providing the necessary information needed for Business Process Re-engineering (BPR). An analytical field study was conducted which comprises the BPR concepts, goals, motives and steps. The field study is conducted through personal interview and questionnaire to test the five hypotheses formulated from the theoretical study. It is shown that there are several factors that push the organizations to conduct the BPR, such as the accelerated developments in production and information technology, severe competition on both domestic and international levels and growth of the customer care concept. The BPR requires …

Public Interest Litigation & Women’S Rights: Cases From Nepal & India, Jordan E. Stevenson
2019 Symposium
As a complex, diverse and dynamic region with diverging, constantly changing constitutional and jurisprudential contexts as well as lasting legacies of patriarchy, South Asia’s traditions of public interest litigation are one of the most well-studied institutions by Western audiences due to their contradictory progressive and innovative nature. Particularly in India, where public interest litigation gives ordinary citizens extraordinary access to the highest courts of justice, questions have been raised as to the effectiveness of public interest litigation as a tool to address gender disparities across the region. Although Supreme Court justices have been a key ally in eliminating legal barriers …

“For anyone who might be suffering from Anthropocene fatigue, this is a book to jolt you from your slumbers. What happens to the globe when we shift attention from the outward projection of emissions to extraction ? The Earth we thought we knew, and were already mourning, takes on a stunning new critical light.”—Claire Colebrook, Pennsylvania State University
Exterranean concerns the extraction of stuff from the Earth, a process in which matter goes from being sub- to exterranean. By bringing a rich archive of nonmodern texts and images from across Europe, into conversation with the contemporary work of Bruno Latour, …
Generalized Optical Theorem For An Arbitrary Incident Field, Likun Zhang
Generalized Optical Theorem For An Arbitrary Incident Field, Likun Zhang
Faculty and Student Publications
© 2019 Acoustical Society of America. A formalism of optical theorem extended for an arbitrarily shaped wave field is presented. The formalism concerns only time-harmonic scattering in free space. The theorem relates the extinction cross section to the imaginary part of the total scattering amplitude at the forward direction of the individual plane wave components multiplied by the corresponding plane wave amplitude in the angular spectrum of the incident wave. A differential extinction cross section is defined from the theorem. An alternative formalism relating the total cross section to plane wave scattering is also presented. Physical interpretation is provided and …

Modeling Initial Breakdown Pulses Of Lightning Flashes Using A Matrix Inversion Method, Nilmini Karunarathne, Sumedhe Karunarathne, Thomas C. Marshall, Maribeth Stolzenburg
Faculty and Student Publications
© 2019. American Geophysical Union. All Rights Reserved. This study describes a new method for modeling the radiated electric field (E) of initial breakdown pulses (IBPs) of lightning flashes. Similar to some previous models, it is assumed that E pulses are caused by a current propagating along a vertical path, and an equation based on Maxwell's equations is used to determine E due to the current. A matrix inversion technique is used with the IBP radiation term of E to determine the IBP current waveform directly from far-field E measurements rather than assuming a parameterized current waveform and searching for …

An Analysis Of United States Nuclear Power Plant Decommissioning Policy And The Public Participation Process, Alexis Stabulas
Sustainability and Social Justice
As the number of nuclear power plants slated for decommissioning increases, reflecting on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC’s) decommissioning regulations in relation to public participation becomes increasingly important. When plants close, communities lose security in economics, employment, and environmental and human health. The NRC’s regulations on public involvement are very limited and generally stakeholders do not feel supported in the decommissioning process. Local and tribal governments, citizen groups, the general public, and those directly affected have all found the NRC’s public involvement inadequate, ineffective, and infrequent. The case studies of two completely decommissioned plants, Maine Yankee and Big Rock …
