Cover's Rebalancing Option With Discrete Hindsight Optimization, Alex Garivaltis
Cover's Rebalancing Option With Discrete Hindsight Optimization, Alex Garivaltis
Faculty Articles, Papers, and Other Scholarship
We study T. Cover’s rebalancing option (Ordentlich and Cover 1998) under discrete hindsight optimization in continuous time. The payoff in question is equal to the final wealth that would have accrued to a $1 deposit into the best of some finite set of (perhaps levered) rebalancing rules determined in hindsight. A rebalancing rule (or fixed-fraction betting scheme) amounts to fixing an asset allocation (i.e. 200% stocks and -100% bonds) and then continuously executing rebalancing trades to counteract allocation drift. Restricting the hindsight optimization to a small number of rebalancing rules (i.e. 2) has some advantages over the pioneering approach taken …

Abstract
This work examined level of awareness and information needs on indiscriminate dumping of solid waste among staff and students of Nigerian Universities. The study adopted descriptive survey and was guided by five research questions. Questionnaire, interview and observation were used for data collection. The population of the study comprised four hundred and fifteen thousand, one hundred and twenty eight (415,128) students and staff of federal universities in the six geo political zones in Nigeria. A total sample of six hundred (600) staff and students were used for the study. Convenience sampling technique was employed to select 50 students and …

Phase Estimation In Linear And Nonlinear Interferometers, Sushovit Adhikari
Phase Estimation In Linear And Nonlinear Interferometers, Sushovit Adhikari
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Phase estimation has a wide range of applications. Over the years, several strategies have been studied to improve precision in phase estimation. These strategies include using exotic quantum states to quantum detection schemes. This dissertation summarizes my effort in improving the precision of phase estimation with a linear and nonlinear interferometer.
Chapter 1 introduces quantum optics and quantum metrology. I introduce all relevant quantum states of light used. We also look into tools and terminologies of quantum metrology such as Fisher information, shot-noise limit, Heisenberg limit, etc., along with examples of phase estimation with a Mach-Zehnder interferometer.
In Chapter 2, …

Human cells, when exposed to both real and simulated microgravity (s-µg), form 3D tissue constructs mirroring in vivo architectures (e.g., cartilage, intima constructs, cancer spheroids and others). In this study, we exposed human foetal osteoblast (hFOB 1.19) cells to a Random Positioning Machine (RPM) for 7 days and 14 days, with the purpose of investigating the effects of s-µg on biological processes and to engineer 3D bone constructs. RPM exposure of the hFOB 1.19 cells induces alterations in the cytoskeleton, cell adhesion, extra cellular matrix (ECM) and the 3D multicellular spheroid (MCS) formation. In addition, after 7 days, it influences …
