Candid Traffic Cameras: Why Illinois’S Automated License Plate Reader System Should Be Restricted, Michael Lathwell

This article examines the constitutionality of automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras. ALPR cameras are permanently affixed on the highway and record the license plate number of every passing vehicle. The system is used by police to locate stolen vehicles, track fleeing suspects, and for other crime prevention purposes. In 2019, the Tamara Clayton Expressway Camera Act was passed by the Illinois General Assembly, which allowed for the installation of these cameras in Illinois. But the constitutionality of these cameras has been challenged as a Fourth Amendment violation, because although the camera network has many valid purposes, it also poses …

Loneliness is a growing global concern, with nearly one in four adults reporting feeling very or somewhat lonely in 2023 (Maese, 2023). The U.S. Surgeon General equates its health risks to smoking 15 cigarettes daily, with young adults aged 18–24 reporting the highest loneliness rates (79%) in the U.S. (Morning Consult, 2021). The Healthy Minds National Report for 2023-2024 states 44% of college students feel left out some of the time and 23% feel left out often. Similarly, 40% of college students report a lack of companionship some of the time and 21% report a lack of companionship often. The …

As most dog owners will tell you, there is something special about interacting with a dog. They seem to know when we need them, whether it’s because we’re stressed, sad, or simply need an emotional boost. The rise of private individuals and professional agencies offering canine-specific animal-assisted interventions attests to these unique dog qualities. One such provider is the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, which administers the Plymouth County Comfort Dogs Program (PCCDP), a network of handler-dog teams.

In an increasingly globalized world, preparing teachers to work with culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) learners has become a critical component of teacher education programs. The recently revised Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP) guidelines emphasize the need for teacher candidates to demonstrate growth in their culturally sustaining pedagogy (DESE, 2025). However, traditional approaches to cultural responsiveness in teacher preparation often fall short of comprehensive, practice-oriented methods that foster connections to classroom practice (Gulya & Fehérváry, 2023).

Many students, whether in elementary or college classrooms, face overlapping challenges related to disability, trauma, poverty, and systemic inequity, and many teachers feel unprepared to provide meaningful support. A ninth-grade Boston charter area teacher once confided to me, “I am aware that my students require assistance, yet I am at a loss as to how to effectively teach them, particularly in regard to students from diverse backgrounds.” This teacher’s statement was not unusual. In my social work roles in several schools, I observed students’ needs and teachers’ uncertainties about how to meet them, which led to my own dedication to …

For eighteen years, WAC has played this vital role in supporting BSU faculty in their scholarly and creative endeavors. Small working groups facilitated by a WAC Coordinator commit to alternating focused periods of writing with peer review and discussion, with the aim of significantly advancing projects towards publication.

In 2023, Lech Walesa spoke at BSU. More than anything else that night, I remember the ovation. The cheering lasted so long that at one point Walesa slowly checked his watch, as if to ask How long will this go on? Walesa is probably one of the few human beings who merits such adulation. His stubborn defiance in organizing non-communist trade unions eventually forced his government to concede and recognize them in the Gdansk agreement of 1980. A Nobel Peace Prize followed in 1983, and he was elected Polish president in free elections in 1990.

Shining A Light On Firms’ Political Connections: The Role Of Dark Money, Matthew Denes, Madeline Scanlon

We study the emergence of a new channel for firms’ political activity using dark money through undisclosed and unlimited contributions. After the U.S. federal court decisions in 2010, S&P 500 firms substantially increased their use of dark money. We find that dark money contributions complement political engagement through campaign contributions and lobbying. Firms disclose dark money contributions when they face heightened nondisclosure costs. Firms contributing to dark money groups benefit by receiving more procurement contracts and increased government subsidies. Our findings highlight that political connections by firms are evolving and expanding through new and largely unexplored channels. (JEL D72, …

While semiotics, diegesis, and retrofuturism have all been discussed at length in academia, it is uncommon to find the synthesis of all three. When these concepts are combined, it forms what I argue is a new genre of graphic design now prevalent enough in contemporary media to warrant definition and analysis. This thesis first explores the theories of visual semiotics, narrative diegesis, and retrofuturistic aesthetics individually before uniting them as a new design genre. The role of CFO has become increasingly important since the enactment of SOX 2002. The existing literature suggests that CFOs tend to leave office within 6 to 12 months of a CEO’s departure, but studies addressing whether forced and voluntary turnover behave differently are unexplored. There is also no attempt to explore whether financial performance or institutional shareholding play moderating roles in mitigating successive CFO and CEO turnovers. These scholars find that forced (voluntary) CEO turnover has a higher significant marginal effect on forced (voluntary) CFO turnover. The purpose of the current study was to determine the effectiveness of a behavioral intervention package for improving perspective-taking skills in children with ASD and specifically extend previous research focused on teaching the ability to identify what others are experiencing through their senses. In Summer 1941, Governor Eugene Talmadge ordered a purging of 23 books from Georgia’s public school libraries. The books covered several subjects: race relations, sex education, evolution, South-bashing, states’ rights, communism, and more. He was planning on running for a US Senate seat in 1942, and perhaps he did this to attract voter support—showing that he would protect the state’s traditional values from various modern threats. There was immediate opposition, with many people comparing Talmadge’s ban to German Nazism.

Indian River Lagoon Shorelines

The spatial dataset: UCF_shorelinemodel_IRL_LWL.shp, was created with support from the Indian River Lagoon National Estuaries Program and Florida Sea Grant. These projects cumulatively led to creation of a living shoreline restoration prioritization model and hydrodynamic habitat suitability models for 1,550 km (963 miles) of estuarine shorelines in Indian River Lagoon and Lake Worth Lagoon.

The dataset presented herein includes:

1. shoreline data from >15,000 transects collected in the field,
2. shoreline wave climate data created through hydrodynamic modeling and frequency analysis of historic data,
3. categorization of potential risk for shoreline boat wake impact,
4. persistence of seagrass within 210 m of the shoreline, …

Adaptive learning, a personalized educational approach, has appeared as a substitute paradigm to conventional teaching methodologies. Opposed to instruction-based learning, adaptive learning prepares learning content in a way that corresponds to individual learner needs, increasing engagement and knowledge retention. The present study has been conducted to review the literature to evaluate the influence of adaptive learning systems on long-term knowledge retention as compared to their traditional counterparts. Real-time feedback, spaced repetition, and scaffolded content can reduce cognitive load and enhance the learning experience, as they are considered highly effective tools. The debate surrounding the Sherman Act’s extraterritorial scope represents a tension between two competing objectives: protecting the U.S. economy from foreign anticompetitive conduct on one hand and respecting the sovereign authority of other nation-states on the other. Applying U.S. law abroad risks undermining sovereign authority by regulating foreign economies, though such regulation appears necessary in some cases to protect U.S. consumers.

Congress’s attempt to square these objectives through enacting the Foreign Trade Antitrust Improvements Act of 1982 (FTAIA) failed to settle the matter. The statute left courts with two new questions: how to distinguish “import” from “nonimport” commerce, and how …
