The June 24, 2022 Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization represented a seismic shift in abortion policy in the United States. Since then, state courts have begun playing an integral role in expanding or restricting abortion access in their jurisdictions. What do these cases look like and how does the public respond to court decisions that are pro- or anti-abortion? We collect original data on state court abortion cases post-Dobbs and field two survey experiments pre- and post-Dobbs to investigate these questions. Establishing direct correlations between molecular motion, crystal structure, and macroscopic properties is essential for designing responsive functional materials. Herein, we report a malononitrile-based aggregation-induced emission luminogen (AIEgen), TPA-CN, that crystallizes into multiple polymorphs exhibiting distinct optoelectronic behaviors. In dilute solution, TPA-CN exhibits excitation-dependent emission spanning from sky blue to red under irradiation from 375 to 425 nm, arising from conformational flexibility and multiple excited-state transitions. In the solid state, subtle differences in crystal packing—governed by torsional angles and intermolecular interactions that modulate dipole moments—lead to pronounced variations in luminescence color and piezoelectric response. This session explores different approaches to transformative agreements (TAs) at a Carnegie R1 University and a Carnegie R2 University, offering a comparative look at how these agreements shape faculty publishing experiences and the management of article processing charges (APCs). The R2 has adopted TAs to expand read access and support open access (OA) publishing, while the R1 has taken a principled stance against TAs, citing concerns about their role in perpetuating the serials crisis and questions of long-term sustainability.

INTRODUCTION: The J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society (JRGOS) aims to increase diversity in orthopaedic surgery and promote high-quality musculoskeletal care for all. Through targeted research funding, JRGOS supports projects aligned with its mission. Despite awarding over $300,000 in research grants since 2011, the return on investment (ROI) of this program has not been analyzed. This study evaluates the ROI of JRGOS research grants from 2011 to 2023.

METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of all JRGOS research grants awarded between 2011 and 2023. Data included recipient demographics, grant titles, award year, institution, and amount. PubMed and Google Scholar were used …

We examine how the presence of active galactic nuclei (AGN) correlates with location in large-scale cosmic structures using the Galaxy and Mass Assembly (GAMA) survey across the G09, G12, and G15 fields. Our sample contains 18,927, 9,273, and 1,148 galaxies {with} highly dense filaments, moderately dense tendrils, and highly underdense voids, respectively. AGN galaxies were identified using Baldwin-Phillips-Telverich (BPT) diagnostic diagrams based on [NII], [SII], and [OI]. We compare AGN fractions in filament, tendril, and void regions, and as a function of distance from the nearest filament centerline. Taste concentration is a key determinant of palatability. For example, higher concentrations of sucrose, a sweet taste, are typically preferred to lower ones, whereas the opposite is true for citric acid, a sour taste. Yet taste is not the only determinant of food preference. Flavor arises from the integration of taste and olfactory cues, and repeated exposure to odor-taste combinations can lead odors to acquire the hedonic value of their associated taste. However, the contribution of odor concentration, independent of taste, in guiding consummatory behavior is not well understood.

Traditional retail organizations are increasingly investing in data collection and analytics, yet they often remain at the descriptive and diagnostic levels, lacking the prescriptive capabilities necessary for actionable recommendations. This research examines the influence of leadership on the adoption of prescriptive analytics within U.S.-based brick-and-mortar retail establishments. Utilizing surveys from 329 respondents, including management personnel, departmental leaders, and analytics professionals, and conducting qualitative analyses of open-ended responses, key leadership factors such as Decision Maturity & Support, Resistance, Data-Driven Commitment, and Analytics Proficiency were identified. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) results revealed that leadership behaviors significantly forecast analytics maturity, with executive analytics …

The study “Moving Toward Equity: K–12 Districts’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Policies, Plans, Actions, and Resistance” explores how Central New York school districts are working to create fairer and more inclusive schools. It finds that deep inequalities still shape students’ experiences, especially for those who are Black, Latino, disabled, or LGBTQ+. Some districts have taken meaningful steps like hiring DEI leaders, forming committees, and setting measurable goals while others are still finding their footing. Yet, resistance from community members and staff often slows progress, particularly around issues of identity and inclusion. The research highlights that real change goes beyond …

The text of the U.S. Constitution seems to be missing a host of governmental powers that we take for granted, including powers relating to immigration, Indian affairs, acquisition of territory and resources, and the regulation and protection of U.S. citizens abroad. The Supreme Court suggested an explanation for these and other missing powers in its famous 1936 decision, United States v. Curtiss-Wright Export Corp. What body of law determines the content and scope of disability rights in the United States? The conventional wisdom is that the rights of disabled individuals are enshrined in and shaped by an array of civil rights statutes. While this answer is correct, it is incomplete. As this Article shows, U.S. disability rights are also built upon contract law concepts and doctrines. For example, in interpreting disability rights statutes, courts have turned to the parol evidence rule, the duty of good faith, and the doctrines of impossibility, materiality, duress, and mistake. The United States is undergoing a legal realignment, in that salient legal views recently associated with the right are now being espoused by the left, and vice versa. The clearest example involves Chevron deference: a doctrine once championed by conservatives like Justice Antonin Scalia has now been overruled in Loper Bright v. Raimondo—over dissenting votes by all three of the Court’s liberals. Similar points can be made about standing, stare decisis, textualism, positivism, and more. The basic reason for this transformation is straightforward: legal ideologies in power favor discretion, whereas those out of power favor constraint. Conservatives now firmly control …

Complete preemption is a jurisdictional doctrine that applies when a federal statute so wholly envelops certain state law claims that those claims effectively cease to exist. Aside from an explicit complete preemption hook, the Supreme Court has recognized just one way for a federal statute to completely preempt state law claims: it must provide an exclusive federal remedy and also have a special nature that makes it especially federal. Courts shirk this second prong to their own detriment. This thesis explores the effects of four landmark Supreme Court cases on the deinstitutionalization movement in the American south. Previous literature frequently discusses the legislative implications of this era; however, no law is applicable without the interpretation and application of the judiciary, which so often contextualizes the greater public perspective. Rarely has an analysis of judicial decisions involving psychiatric care merged with regional focus, and certainly not in a format accessible to the average individual.

Attracting and retaining a diverse, skilled workforce remains one of the most pressing challenges in the transportation industry. A new MTI-led California State University Transportation Consortium report examines why workforce participation gaps persist and identifies practical strategies organizations can implement to address them. Drawing on an extensive literature review, a nationwide industry survey with 996 respondents, and in-depth interviews with 15 transportation professionals, the study highlights both the barriers and the solutions to workforce participation. The findings emphasize that open dialogue, intentional investment, and inclusive workplace policies can help transform industry culture, making transportation careers more appealing to a broader …

The Western Rock Lobster (WRL) (Panulirus cygnus) is the most commonly caught Rock Lobster (RL) species in Australia. Catches from the commercial and recreational sectors are required to determine and monitor Total Allowable Commercial Catch (TACC), Total Allowable Recreational Catch (TARC) and the proportion of Allowable Harvest Level (AHL) achieved. The TARC is evaluated annually based on a 5-year average.

Data for the recreational sector are obtained using phone-recall surveys to provide annual estimates of participation, fishing effort and retained catch (by numbers) from recreational fishers who hold a RL licence. Average weight, obtained from boat ramp surveys, are used …
