Quantum Mechanics, Non-Locality, And The Space Discreteness Hypothesis, Wilson A. Zuniga-Galindo

The space discreteness hypothesis asserts that the nature of space at short distances is radically different from that at large distances. Based on the Bronstein inequality, here, we use a totally disconnected topological space X as a model for the physical space at short distances. However, we consider the time as a real variable. In this framework, the Dirac–von Neumann formalism can be used. This discreteness hypothesis implies that given two different points in space, there is no continuous curve (a world line) joining them. Prion diseases are neurodegenerative disorders characterized by the dynamic spread of misfolded toxic proteins in the brain. In this process, the normal cellular prion protein (PrPC) produced by neurons misfolds into a toxic form known as scrapie prion protein (PrPSc). These misfolded proteins propagate through the brain by converting healthy prions into their toxic form. This biological mechanism can be modeled by a system of nonlinear parabolic partial differential equations, accompanied by a nonlinear delayed integral boundary condition. The utilization of insect frass fertilizer in crop production systems has recently gained significant global interest, but there has been limited evidence of its residual benefits in rotational cropping systems. The legacy effects of black soldier frass fertilizers (BSFFF), conventional organic fertilizer (SAFI), inorganic fertilizer (NPK), synthetic nematicide, and their combinations on potato cyst nematode (PCN) management under potato-African nightshade rotational farming systems were investigated. BACKGROUND: Neonates with kidney failure require placement of a peritoneal dialysis catheter (PD-C) shortly after birth. PD-C malfunction and peritonitis, both common in this population, are associated with PD failure. The aim of this study was to describe our center's PD-C-related practices and outcomes in neonates with kidney failure.

METHODS: We performed a retrospective chart review of neonates who required kidney replacement therapy (KRT) within the first 30 days of life from 01/2018-12/2023. We evaluated for PD-C duration, PD-C replacement or revision, and peritonitis.

NAT2 encodes arylamine N-acetyltransferase 2, a key enzyme in the phase II metabolism of arylamines and arylhydrazines. NAT2 is highly polymorphic, resulting in variable distributions of rapid and poor metabolizers across global populations. Here, we detail the process undertaken by the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) NAT2 Pharmacogene Curation Expert Panel (PCEP) to assign clinical function to NAT2 star (*) alleles using CPIC's standard terminology. Given the observed impact of NAT2 genetic variability on drug response, CPIC convened the NAT2-PCEP to standardize clinical allele function assignments. Algorithmic Oversight: Caremark's Fiduciary Framework Applied To Artificial Intelligence, Samar Singh

Artificial intelligence now drives core corporate decision, such as loan approvals and hiring screens, yet corporate boards have largely treated its governance as a management-level policy questions rather than a fiduciary obligation. This paper argues that this framing is mistaken, using Delaware's Caremark doctrine, as refined by Marchand v. Barnhill, In re Boeing, and In re McDonald's. The relevant cases already impose an enforceable duty on boards to actively oversee mission algorithmic systems, and by applying Marchand's mission-critical standard, this paper demonstrates that AI performs core business functions that expose companies to anti-discrimination, consumer protection, and …

U.S. national parks protect more than landscapes—they preserve natural soundscapes and dark night skies that are vital to ecological integrity and visitor experiences. This presentation highlights interdisciplinary research conducted with the National Park Service's Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division, including studies of artificial light at night, visitor use management, and the Listening Lab at the University of Vermont. Examples from parks across the U.S. demonstrate how science can inform practical conservation and visitor management.

Understanding internal hydrodynamics of Direct Contact Membrane Distillation (DCMD) is crucial for desalination performance and mitigating temperature polarization. Despite its importance, quantitative experimental characterization of hydrodynamics governing boundary-layer development and transport enhancement within DCMD channels remains limited. This study presents the first spatially resolved Particle Image Velocimetry PIV measurement of velocity fields inside a smooth, actively operating flat-sheet DCMD channel, linking observed hydrodynamic structures to permeate flux. Two-dimensional velocity fields were captured at different streamwise positions for feed flow rates ranging from 0.7 to 4 L·min−1, enabling analysis of flow evolution and turbulence characteristics relevant to mass transfer. This research seeks to develop a system dynamics (SD) model to address challenges associated with the product line extension (PLE) problem. In this work, we specifically consider the "Two-Generation Product Line Extension (TGPLE) Problem", where a firm introduces a product variant in the market and plans to extend the launch to include a newer generation product in a resource-sharing dual-sourcing (RSDS) environment. Human–wildlife conservation requires understanding both ecological processes and human behavior. In this talk, I discuss work from my PhD, Social Ecological Practice Theory, and demonstrate its application through two applied case studies: human–carnivore interactions in Botswana and my current work as Director of the University of California, Berkeley’s California Wolf Project. Together, these examples illustrate how integrating social and ecological perspectives can inform more effective and durable conservation strategies.

Regulating Religious Coexistence : The Intricacies Of Interfaith Cooperation In Coastal Kenya, Erik Meinema

Regulating Religious Coexistence offers a compelling ethnographic analysis of how Muslims, Christians, and practitioners of indigenous African religions negotiate coexistence in Kenya’s coastal region. The book conceptualizes religious diversity as a dynamic field shaped by multiple partly intersecting and partly conflicting models of interaction. These include the political secularism promoted by the Kenyan state and civil society organizations focused on interfaith harmony, forms of competition between religious groups, and pluralistic practices in which individuals draw on multiple traditions to meet spiritual needs.

The rapidly expanding fleet of low-altitude CubeSats equipped with energetic particle detectors brings new opportunities for monitoring the dynamics of the radiation belt and near-Earth plasma sheet. Despite their small sizes, CubeSats can carry state-of-the-art instruments that provide electron flux measurements with finer energy resolution and broader energy coverage, compared to conventional missions such as POES satellites. The recently launched CIRBE CubeSat measures 250–6,000 keV electrons with extremely high energy resolution, however, CIRBE typically only measures locally-trapped electrons and cannot directly measure the precipitating electrons. Examining Enrolment Patterns In French Electives At The University Of Botswana: Implications For Policy And Curriculum Development, Kagiso Jacob Sello

International Journal of Transformative Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

This study examines enrolment trends in French electives at University of Botswana (UB) to assess cross-disciplinary relevance, sustained student engagement, and implications for curriculum development and institutional internationalisation. Using a descriptive-analytical design, the study analysed institutional enrolment data from six consecutive semesters. Data were disaggregated by faculty and analysed using SPSS, guided by Student-Centred Curriculum theory and Interdisciplinary Learning principles. A total of 1,200 enrolments were recorded. The Faculty of Business accounted for the highest participation (48.6%), followed by Humanities (20.8%) and Social Sciences (14.9%). Generative AI tools are widely used by college students. This study aimed to investigate the best ways to teach students the limits of AI, especially in hands-on engineering classes. A class project in a sophomore biomedical engineering class was used to test the effectiveness of generative AI tools in supporting engineering CAD design and 3D modeling. Students were tasked with designing a finger basketball toy, creating 2D engineering drawings, and creating a physical prototype using 3D modeling and printing.
